Introduction

Grammar is something very important in our lives. Grammar
helps us communicate in english fluently. Today we will be

learning a few things about grammar.

What Is Grammar?

Grammar is the study of words, how they are used in sentences, and
how they change in different situations. Rules and examples show how
the language should be used. This is a correct usage grammar, as in a

textbook or manual/guide.

Noun

Function or Job: Thing or person
Examples: Pencil, Cat, Work, Notebook
Sentence: This is my cat

Verb

Function or Job: Action or state
Examples: Get, Come, Cut, Open, Like
Sentence: I like apple

Adverb

Function or Jobs: Describes a verb, adjective or adverb
Examples: Silently, Badly, Really
Sentences: My cat walked silently to the kitchen

Pronoun

Function or Job: Replaces a noun
Examples: I, you, he, she, it
Sentence: He is very clever

Preposition

Function or Job: Links a noun to another word
Examples: At, In, Of, An, After, Under
Sentences: She was hiding under the table.

Conjuction

Function Or Job: joins clauses or sentences
Examples: But, And, While, When
Sentence: I am very hungry, but the fridge is empty

Interjection

Function or Jobs: Short exclamation
Examples: Oh! , Hi! , Ouch! , Wow!
Sentence: Wow! What a beautiful butterfly!

History about grammar

In Europe the Greeks were the first to write grammars. To them,
grammar was a tool that could be used in the study of Greek
literature; hence their focus on the literary language. The
Alexandrians of the 1st century bc further developed Greek
grammar in order to preserve the purity of the language.
