DIGITAL LEARNING CENTRE

UNITEN has also established its Digital Learning Centre (DLC) in March 2021 that is responsible for the
implementation and operation of the Digital & Flexible Learning (DL) initiative. Through the Digital
& Flexible Learning initiative, UNITEN offers a variety of courses through Micro-Credentials (MCs),
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), and Open & Distance Learning (ODL) programmes that are
recognised by the industry and academia. A total of 42 Digital & Flexible Learning courses are planned
to be developed. To date 12 Micro-Credential courses and 14 Massive Open Online Courses have
been successfully completed. Recently, a total of 393 students have pioneered this Digital & Flexible
Learning initiative through the Brighten and TagYard platforms. UNITEN will also offer four academic
programmes in the Open & Distance Learning mode, namely Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering,
Bachelor of Information Technology (Information Systems), Bachelor of Business Administration (Human
Resource), and Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Through this Digital & Flexible Learning method, UNITEN can offer its courses in a wider context,
opening opportunities for working adults and meeting market needs, thus able to transform UNITEN
into an international university and produce high quality graduates.

RESEARCH HUB

Innovation and Research Management Centre (iRMC) is a research and development arm of UNITEN
established in order to provide a proper mechanism and research management system, effectively
and efficiently so as to translate its mission statement into operation. iRMC strives to develop leading-
edge research and development experts to contribute to the economic and social development in
diverse fields such as energy.

UNITEN Research Roadmap 2021-2025, one of 2021 highlights was officially launched on 23 November
2021 by YB. Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima TPr. Annuar Haji Musa, Minister of Communications and
Multimedia Malaysia during IVIC’ 21-7th International Visual Informatics Conference 2021. This roadmap
is the blueprint that systematically develops research in niche area of expertise under the five Research
Institutes namely the Institute of Energy Policy and Research (IEPRe), Institute of Power Enginering (IPE),
Institute of Sustainable Energy (ISE), Institute of Energy Infrastructure (IEI) and Institute of Informatics
and Computing in Energy (IICE). By 2025, this roadmap will raise our standing, recognized as a Higher
Education Centre of Excellence (HICoE), a MyRA 6 Star university, making the cut in Top 100 QS Ranking
and standing proud as the Number 1 Private University in Malaysia.

Four of UNITEN academic staff were recognised as the World Top 2% Scientist and for the first time
since its establishment, UNITEN Citation has exceeded 20,000 proving our research are of high quality
with scholarly outputs cited by researchers around the world. UNITEN’s expertise in research and
consultancy continues to gain the trust of outsiders with total international grants exceeding RM2
million from United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Canada to name a few.

The year 2021 sees Prof Emeritus Dato’ Halimah Badioze Zaman appointed as the chair holder of Tan
Sri Leo Moggie Distinguished Chair in Energy Informatics, IICE. The appointment is a testament of the
tremendous recognition Dato Halimah has received in the field of Computer Science and Information
and Communications Technology not just amongst the academia but also by government and
industry. This establishment is the 3rd chair in UNITEN along with AAIBE Chair of Renewable Energy
and Chair in Energy Economics of Energy Commission.

A year of achievements and iRMC takes pride in all the success of our researchers. Our high hope
is seeing UNITEN through ISE receiving the seal and stamp of the prestigious HICoE from Ministry of
Higher Education. At this point of writing, ISE-UNITEN is in the Top 3 after making the cuts from over
80 submissions nationwide. We stand strong together and may we see big success in the year 2022.

TABUNG AMANAH ZAKAT UNITEN

UNITEN accepted the offer of appointment as the Amil Assitant on behalf of Lembaga Zakat Selangor
(LZS) on 14 July 2010. Subsequently, on 2 September 2010, UNITEN and LZS signed a Memorandum of
Agreement (MoA) of UNITEN Appointment as Assistant Amil and officially established Tabung Amanah
Zakat UNITEN (TAZU). TAZU is a strategic partner of LZS and has been given the mandate to collect
and distribute zakat on behalf of LZS to eligible asnaf among UNITEN community. LZS returns a portion
of zakat collection to TAZU to be redistributed to eligible asnaf in UNITEN.

DANA WAKAF ILMU UNITEN (DWI)
Dana Wakaf Ilmu UNITEN (DWI), which was then under Tabung Amanah Zakat (TAZU) was first initiated
on 5 December 2016 with the acceptance of collaboration offer from Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor
(PWS). DWI provides the facility to contribute to UNITEN via waqf either through cash or assets and
it is under the supervision of Jawatankuasa Pengurusan Bersama Dana Wakaf Ilmu chaired by the
Vice-Chancellor of UNITEN as al-Mutawalli (Waqf Administrator) for the interest and progression
of educational activities specifically at UNITEN. The establishment of DWI was also in line with the
university’s commitment to create a sustainable financial infrastructure to help safeguard the welfare
of UNITEN students in particular and the entire UNITEN community in general. The fund collection
of DWI in 2021 was increased by more than threefold in comparison to the achievement in 2020 as
a result of aggressive marketing, promotional and awareness activities that were mostly done via
online due to the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO)/Movement Control Order (MCO). DWI
also launched several initiatives, which are Program Wakaf Al-Quran 2021, Wakaf RM1 Daily, Alumni
Waqf Fund (in collaboration with ACL) and Wakaf Al-Siyanah to create more options for donors to
contribute.

Yayasan Canselor UNITEN (YCU) was established to build and strengthen human capital through
education and inclusive activities. The main goal of YCU is to successfuly administer and distribute
funds for student development activities through the provision of financial aid in the form of scholarships
and organised activities. YCU has been providing scholarship assistance to UNITEN students since it
was launched. YCU has been successful in various activities in line with its objectives. These activities
have enhanced students’ academic and personal excellence and also community development.
