Mid Essex Care Home Manual
We would like to share with you the mid Essex care home manual which has been collaboratively
developed with our partners (ECC, Farleigh Hospice, Provide, MEHT), the immediate and primary
care teams and comms.
The purpose of the manual is to support care homes across the patch with
navigating local NHS services – to help identify when residents may need
additional care and from which service.
As of Monday 14th August, its use is being piloted for four weeks at two
care homes in Braintree (New Deanery and Millard House). Following the
pilot, the plan is to roll out the amended document as hard copies and an
online eBook to all 90 care homes across mid Essex – prior to the winter
season.
New Deanery and Millard House are excited about being involved in
the development of this manual and we would also like to have your
input. Therefore, we would be extremely grateful if you could review the
manual and advise if there are any particular service areas that your
teams are working on that you feel should be included. Any general comments on the manual
would also be appreciated.
Please send your feedback to Liz Milne ([email protected]) in the Immediate Care team by 31st
August 2017.
The pilot eBook version of the manual can be accessed here.

Staff Spotlight is back! In each edition of MECCG Digest we Fun Facts

This week the spotlight is on Maria Doval-Monetro, Don Quixote
Management Accountant in the Finance directorate.

My current position at the CCG is Management Accountant. It
involves setting up budgets in conjunction with managers (budget Any pets?
holders) and flagging any risk of overspends as well as trying to make Dog – Mr Benson
any savings or other funding within the organisation’s financial plan.
Any hobbies?
The work I do allows both Directors and managers to make decisions. Music, Travelling,
I look at data and make forecasts, provide costings for recruitment Scuba Diving, Family
purposes or organisational structure changes, identify trends and
opportunities for improvement and monitor or enforce compliance.
I also help the CCG budget holders to make the best possible
decision given the data available.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy how busy I am and that I get to analyse data about the
organisation. I meet regularly with budget holders which enables me
to use my interpersonal skills rather than technical and numerical
ones. I also like investigating issues that are particulary challenging
to solve.
My current job has been wonderful because I can switch gears
and split my time between creative/social tasks and organisational
tasks fulfilling deadlines monthly and at year end – I like that duality.
It’s great being able to use both sides of my brain.
Why do you like working for NHS MECCG?
I am proud of being part of our new Live Well strategy as it shows
that we care not just about patients but our own colleagues at work.
The culture breathes nurturing and care amongst us.
Everyone works hard and at times we have to work under pressure
in order to deliver, however it is done willingly as our jobs and the
organisation are important to us all.

Live Well Chef
Jenna Chapman brings you a different "Live Well" recipe each fornight
Simple turkey stir-fry
This week's recipe is a simple turkey stir-fry – quick, colourful and tastes amazing!
This recipe taken, from Change4Life, serves four people and takes around 15 mins to prepare and a
further 10 mins to cook. One serving contains 301 calories.
Ingredients
• 125g dried egg noodles (medium or fine)
• 1 small orange (juiced)
• 1 tbsp reduced-salt soy sauce
• 1 tbsp cornflower
• 1 tbsp vegetable oil
• 350g skinless turkey breast (cut into strips)
• 5 spring onions (thinly sliced)
• 1 pepper (any colour, deseeded and thinly sliced)
• 1 carrot (cut into think strips)
• 2 celery sticks (thinly sliced)
• 1 handful of button mushrooms (sliced)
• Pinch of black pepper
Method
1. Put the noodles into a heatproof bowl and cover with boiling water. Soak for 6 minutes, or follow the
instructions on the packet. If you prefer, leave out the noodles and cook 150g long grain rice.
2. Mix together the orange juice, soy sauce and cornflour until smooth. Set to one side. Heat the oil in a
wok or very large frying pan.
3. Add the turkey and stir-fry briskly for 3-4 minutes. Add the spring onions, pepper, carrot, celery
and mushrooms. Stir-fry over a high heat for another 3-4 minutes until the turkey is cooked. The
vegetables should remain crisp and crunchy. For a vegetarian version, replace the turkey with a 300g
pack of firm tofu cut into chunks, or Quorn chicken-style pieces.
4. Give the orange juice mixture a good stir, then add it to the stir-fry and cook for a few moments until
thickened. Drain the noodles well, then add them to the turkey mixture and serve.
