The Voices of Crabs Baseball

Benjamin “The Professor” Shaeffer and Liam Warner

Benjamin "The Professor" Shaeffer will have a new radio partner in Crabs booth
operator Liam Warner for 2019. Longtime color man Bob "Hoke" Holcomb retired from
the Crabs and moved to Ashland, Oregon after the 2018 season. Hoke and Benjamin's
partnership began in 1999, announcing Crabs games together for 18 fun-filled years.

Tim Warner and Tres O'Brien

Public Address Announcers

The Crabs officially signed high ranking volunteers Tim
Warner and Tres O'Brien to be our two Public Address
Anouncers for 2019. They both received a season
pass, a official Crabs pen and a gift card to Slice of
Humboldt Pie because these two will work for pie.
Tim's favorite beer of all time was Firestone Double
Jack Double IPA, but he said he loves any beer from
Redwood Curtain Brewing Company.
Tres' favorite beer is Redwood Curtain IGA, and he
also loves the soft pretzels and cheesecake at the
ballpark. Welcome back, Tres and Tim!

PA Announcers Tim Warner (left) and Tres O'Brien (right)

Crabs Beer Goddesses

Giuliana "Julie" Stagnoli, Andrea Armas, Vicki Walker, and Krista Freeman

Never fear, the Beer Goddesses are here! Fifteen-plus year volunteer veteran and Chief Beer Pourer Giuliana
"Julie" Stagnoli returns once again for the Crabs' 75th season. Julie schedules all the other ballpark beer
pourers, knows every Crabs fan by name, and knows their beer of choice. Julie says the best part about
working for the Humboldt Crabs is meeting new fans,
seeing the longtime fans, and putting smiles on their
faces each game. Julie's home-away-from-home is
Lake Garda, Brescia in Northern Italy.

Joining Julie at the beer booth is Andrea Armas who
began volunteering in 2005. Andrea says Pirate Night
is her favorite game to work, and she can't wait to
bring her one-year-old son Mateo to the park this
summer to show off his chicken dancing skills!

Pouring beer on the third base side this year again will
be Krista Freeman. Krista says her favorite thing about
volunteering for the Crabs are the fans, being around
people having a good time, the hotdogs, and of
course the Crab Grass Band. She loves the Fireworks
Nights at the ball park.

And last but certainly not least, we welcome back Beer Goddesses L to R: Andrea Armas, Giuliana
Vicki Walker for her 2nd year! Vicki says her favorite "Julie" Stagnoli, Vicki Walker, and Krista Freeman

thing about volunteering for the Crabs is the crowd -
"they're so cool and very loyal! It's fun getting to know all of the regulars." Vicki's favorite special
event is Fireworks Nights. She loves the whole Crabs tradition as her son went to Crab Camps.
Vicki's favorite ballpark item is beer, of course!

let's hear it for the crab Grass Band!

The ‘World Famous’ Crab Grass Band has
been keeping ball park crowds entertained
since 1983. They just showed up one day and
started playing for free! This group of musicians
from the Humboldt Bay area come together each summer at the Arcata
Ball Park to play at Crabs baseball games and provide musical interludes

pre-game, post-game, and between
innings. The band also performs
the "Star Spangled Banner" in the absence of guest performers. The
band cites influences such as the Humboldt State University Marching
Lumberjacks, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Oyster Cult, the Rebirth Brass
Band, and Crabs’ fans.

The band attends a majority of the games. It is a volunteer organization
supported by its members, the Humboldt Crabs, and a few generous
fans. All donations are
appreciated and accepted!!!
Feel free to donate to the
band so they can go on the
road with the team. Travel is
expensive. And remember to
buy the band a beer!

Thank You Ballpark Staff!

The Crabs ballpark staff is made up of mostly Humboldt State University students and
other students looking for their first job. The Crabs organization hires a team of about 15
individuals to run the ballpark during the summer months. The staff is required to fill out
an online application in early April, and is interviewed at the end of the month. Many staff
members stay with the Crabs for several years. Some have even gone on to work for major
