Fowler’s
Position
• Patient’s head of bed is
placed at a 45-degree
angle. Hips may or may
not be flexed. This is a
common position to
provide patient comfort
and care.

some pillows or use a
bed or mattress can be
raised over the head.
Semi Fowler’s / Semi
Recumbent (30 to 45°) Fowler’s
Fowler’s position can

Patients are given a
cardiac table for easy
rest and breathing
more comfortable.

1 Greet patient and introduce self
2 Explain procedure
3 Perform hand hygiene
4 Prepare equipment
5 Lock the bed wheels
6 Elevate the head of bed 45 to 60 degrees if not contraindicated

7 Rest head against mattress on the pillow
8 Use pillow to support arms and hands if the patient does not have
voluntary control or use of hands and arm
9 Position pillow at lower back
10 Place pillow or roll under thigh
11 Support calves with pillows
