Dear TDC Families,
Our 24th annual recital is a celebration of some of the great talents of music and dance. Sadly, we
don’t have enough time in one recital performance to showcase every performer of note, but I
think you will agree with my staff and I that the performers represented this weekend are definitely
legendary.These legends and divas influenced and changed culture in meaningful ways and made
an indelible mark on our society.
Dancing to these unforgettable songs are some pretty legendary performers in their own right- our
students.They have been learning, practicing and dancing their hearts out in the studio preparing
to knock your socks off this weekend. I am so proud of them and the hard work and dedication they have shown. It takes
courage to step onto the stage in front of hundreds of people and perform.These kids are not only brave and hard-working,
they funny, smart, strong, talented and amazing! I am so grateful to be a part of their lives. Please, show them how proud you
are of them, and how much you appreciate their performances by cheering and clapping for them today!
I am thankful everyday for the life of dance that I have. I would not be here with out all of the incredible children and
families who have put their trust in me and my dedicated staff.Thank you for choosing The Dance Corner.

Meet Our Instructors

Carrie Smith has been teaching dance throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts for over 25 years

and is a qualified member of Dance Educators of America. Originally from Barnstable, MA, Carrie began her
dance training at the Cape Cod Conservatory. She graduated from Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, MA
and earned her B.A. in dance performance and choreography from Connecticut College, where she studied with
such notable teachers as Peggy Lyman, Sara Rudner, JaclynVillamil, David Dorfman, and Dan Waggoner. Carrie
spent her college semester abroad studying modern dance and Caribbean folk dance at the School of the National
Dance Theatre of Jamaica. She has danced with the NationalYouth Ballet and performed in world premiere
choreography by Doug Nielsen and at the American College Dance Festival.When she’s not at the studio Miss
Carrie loves spending time with her dogs Tippy and Hugo and her beloved Glen. Miss Carrie looks forward to
sharing her love of dance with the students of The Dance Corner for many years to come.

Savanna Bodnar is a lyrical/contemporary dancer who trained at The Dance Connection in

East Haven, CT. She has taught ballet, jazz and lyrical at Jump Dance Center in Pelham NY, Breaking Ground
Dance Center in Pleasantville NY, and The Dance Connection in East Haven. She holds her B.A. in History
from Manhattanville College.

During her time there she was a featured dancer for many original student pieces and also worked with
accomplished choreographers Nicholas Leichter,Arthur Fredrick, Doug Elkins, and Stacey Forsyth Mahan. She
competed as part of the US Showdance Team for 3 years, and took home a Silver Medal in the Adult Group
category in 2009.

Jenny Bordonaro is an enthusiastic instructor who joined The Dance Corner staff in

September 2014. Her love of ballet began at six years old and has been a passion ever since. Jenny enjoys all
styles of dance and believes that dance promotes creativity, positive self-esteem and confidence. Jenny trained
at Alyce Carella Dance Centre for many years prior to becoming a Dance Instructor. Jenny has experience
performing jazz, hip-hop, ballet and lyrical.As a teacher Jenny focuses on ballet technique and vocabulary
to help students prepare for future dance endeavors and succeed in all styles of dance. Previous teaching
experience includes leading company classes and teaching ballet to a variety of ages. Outside of the dance
studio Jenny enjoys running, reading and spending time with her family at the Connecticut shoreline.

Kathy Carew lived most of her young life in Stamford, CT. She started Irish dancing with the

Kathleen Mulkerin School of Irish dance at the age of 5.At 7 she was the youngest performer on the first of
her many tours to Ireland with the well known Emerald Dancers under the direction of Kathleen Mulkerin.
Kathy attended Southern Sem and Longwood Colleges in Virginia, where she majored in Education.While in
college, Kathy came back home to perform with The Emerald Dancers at Carnegie Hall. Kathy has won many
awards throughout the United States and Canada for her solo and group dancing. Over the years Kathy also
took classes in Ballet, jazz and modern dance, but Irish always seemed to be in her blood.After college Kathy
worked part time as an Irish dance teacher and full time as the director of a Daycare Center in New Haven.
Kathy continued teaching both in the fields of dancing and computer education until 2000, at which time
she decided to focus completely on Irish Dancing. Besides teaching in Killingworth, she has classes for both
children and adults in Guilford, Darien,Wilton and West Haven. Kathy’s belief is that life is short, enjoy what
you do, and let dance be a part of every day.

Brooke Cotter began her dance training at 3 years old studying a broad range of styles such

as Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip-hop, and Modern. From the age of 6, Brooke competed in
numerous competitions throughout New England with Caffery’s Dance and The Dance Corner Company.
She started choreographing her Tap solos at the age of 13, receiving many titles and awards such as
“Outstanding Choreography and Technique.” She continued to further her skills at Broadway Dance Center,
Steps on Broadway and DanceMasters.

As a graduate of NVCC, Cotter earned her degree in Visual and Performing arts, with a focus in Dance. She
choreographed and performed for the Terpsichorean Dance Club and Ensemble. Brooke is a dancer for DFX
Ent. where she performs at venues such as Foxwoods Resort Casino. She was also a featured tap dancer in
Shed! A Tap Show directed by Keith Leonhardt. Currently, she is a member of two dance companies;Visceral
Movement and The CT Tap Collaborative. Brooke enjoys sharing her passion for dance as an Instructor and
Choreographer around CT.

Catherine Florentine

began dancing at The Dance Corner when she
was two years old and was a Dance Corner
dancer for 15 years. She competed with both
the TDC company and the Mulkerin School
of Irish Dance and went to Ireland to perform
Irish Step as an Emerald Dancer in 2011.
Catherine furthered her studies at Connecticut
College in New London, CT, studying
modern and ballet dance with noteworthy
choreographers Heidi Henderson, David
Dorfman, and Derrick Yanford.At Conn, Catherine was a Biochemistry,
Cellular and Molecular Biology major and plans on attending Dental
School to become an orthodontist. Outside of The Dance Corner, she
loves studying chemistry and always learning new dance skills! Catherine
couldn’t be more excited to be teaching at The Dance Corner while
sharing her love and passion for dance and tumbling!

Samantha Hermann started dancing at the age of 3 and competing at the age of 7 at The

Dance Connection in East Haven, CT, where she extensively trained in jazz, tap, ballet, and lyrical. During
this time, she participated in regional and national competitions all over the country winning numerous
awards and scholarships. She started teaching dance at the age of 12 and became a staff member of The Dance
Connection at the age of 16.

While earning her Bachelors Degree in Justice and Law Administration at Western Connecticut State
University, she was a member of the Dance Team in which she performed and choreographed routines for the
team. Samantha is very excited to be teaching dance again and is looking forward to sharing her talents with
students at The Dance Corner.

Naja Muller is a Connecticut shoreline native. She has over 15 years experience in Circus, as a

teacher, choreographer and performer. Naja studied in San Francisco at the San Francisco Circus Center
where she received specialized training and study under Master Lu Yi and Xia Ke Min in Chinese acrobatics,
hand to hand, contortion and foot juggling. She also studied rope, static trapeze, lyra and tissue.

She worked on the west coast for 10 years gaining performance experience with The New Pickle Circus,
Vau de Vire Society,Velocity Circus and Earth Circus and professional experience at the San Francisco Circus
Center as a Choreographer, Coach and Asst. Director for the SF Youth Circus productions.

Prior to living and working in California, Naja graduated from North Carolina School of the Arts with
a Ballet Concentration and has worked/performed in New York and Connecticut while continuing her
education at Joffrey Ballet, New Haven Ballet and Hartford Ballet, where ballet was her primary focus of
study.

Katharine K.T. Nelson- Hart began dancing at the relatively “late” age of thirteen.

She instantly fell in love with dance, and felt that it really rounded out her musical theatre interests.Always
needing something to keep her feel moving and her mind busy, KT agreed to attend an audition for the
competitive dance team at her home studio (Elite Dance Academy, Inc.) and was immersed in dance classes
ranging from ballet, pointe, modern, contemporary/lyrical, hip hop, tap, and character dance. She was
awarded a full scholarship to Southern Union State Community College, and dove head first into not only
choreography and stage work, but also performing arts education itself. Soon after completing her AS, KT
moved to Virginia Beach, where she danced with Lakewood Ballet Company and Todd Rosenlieb Dance
Ensemble while also performing with multiple theatre companies to keep learning. KT also began working
for StarQuest Dance Competition, International, as well as Impact Dance Adjudicators, as a competition
judge and master teacher. KT holds a BFA in Dance and Theatre Arts and her BS in Business Administration
from SUNY Empire State College.

Nicole Peterson began her dance education at Gloria Jean’s Studio of Dance and competed

nationally with them before continuing her training at The Dancer’s Studio and Wendy’s School of Dance.
Nicole went on to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA and performed in the
SCAD Dance Theatre Company as a dance captain and choreographer. She finished her degree at Central
Connecticut State University, graduating with BFA in Theatre with a Dance Concentration.At CCSU Nicole
performed with DanCentral at the American College Dance Festival.

After graduating Nicole performed for several years with Clark Dance Theatre based in New Haven, where
she was a choreographer and dance captain. Nicole was also a member of the dance department at the
Westport Country Playhouse and an instructor at Body-N-Motion in Guilford. Nicole currently is on the
teaching staff at Choate Rosemary Hall for their Young Artists Program.When she’s not at TDC, Nicole loves
spending time with her son Sam, and her husband Chris. Nicole is so happy to be a part of The Dance Corner team!

Linda Suravich has been dancing since she was 5 years old. Her dance roots are based in

Connecticut, studying at Miss Diane’s School of Dance, Backstage Dance Center and The Dance Corner!
Linda trained in tap, jazz, and lyrical with The Dance Corner Company and competed in numerous
competitions throughout the state. Upon attending Salve Regina University, Linda began dancing with
SRU Dance, the University’s student run dance club. Linda has choreographed tap numbers for SRU Dance
for the Fall and Spring showcases during her sophomore, junior, and senior year at Salve. She became SRU
Dance’s Co-Captain during her senior year. Linda has also been a leading member of the Let Loose Dance
Troop at Salve. Let Loose provides opportunities for children with disabilities to enjoy the power of dance
and movement. Linda graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Education and is currently a local middle school
teacher. She is thrilled to be back in the studio and a member of The Dance Corner team once again!

STEP

(Student Teacher Education Program)

is The Dance Corner’s dance teacher training program. STEP team members
assist with class, learn leadership and mentoring skills and learn how to structure
and lead a dance class. We are training the next generation of teachers and leaders!
