INTRODUCTION

Assalamualaikum and a pleasant day to everyone.

I would like to express my gratitude for being given the chance to give a few words here. I would also like to express
my heartfelt appreciation towards Narrendran a/l Palani, our brilliant young man from SMK Ledang whom was chosen
as Tangkak representative in Pertandingan Anugerah Tokoh Nilam Kategori Bahasa Inggeris to Johor State Level this
year.

NILAM or Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca is a national programme that has been carried out for so many years. The
programme has garnered the culture of reading throughout Malaysian schools. This is in accordance to our Education
National Philosophy as reading can improve our students holistically. So, it is very important for us to carry on this
NILAM programme to further improve and prepare our students for the future through reading. Reading is the bridge
that connects us to world out there. Besides improving our knowledge, reading is able to better shape our view on the
world. Thus, we can learn to adapt to the ever-changing world.

Our school, SMK Ledang has been improving our NILAM programme these recent years and we also organized
many programmes to encourage the culture of reading in our school. Our young man Narrendran is one of the many
positive and encouraging results from all the programmes we organized. As this is a new territory for all of us here in
SMK Ledang, I really hope that we can keep on producing more excellent students for NILAM like him in the near future.
I really hope that he can win and go on further in Pertandingan Anugerah Tokoh Nilam and set a higher bar for others
to achieve. I also hope for a bright, flourishing journey in his future.

Good day, Salam of solidarity and Salam of visionary minds.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude for being selected as the candidate for the 2022 Johor State Level
TOKOH NILAM .

An infinite thank you to my parents and the whole family, Mr. Principal, NILAM teacher, teacher of SMK Ledang School
Resource Centre and others who have given me a lot of encouragement, space and opportunity to explore and deepen
the knowledge of various fields as well as provide guidance and guidance with high commitment.

Reading culture is not something foreign to me. From an early age, the culture of reading has been inculcated and
applied in this person so that eventually, I became a person who appreciated science. It is true exactly the Malay saying,
if you want to flex the bamboo, let it be from the reeds. Thanks to the patience of my parents at that time, I have now
managed to become one of the candidates of the NILAM Hero.

It is like a lamp that illuminates a person's life. A man without knowledge is like rowing a boat without direction.
Therefore, I call on my dear friends to appreciate knowledge. Make books as friends and reading as a common
occurrence. Indeed, reading is a bridge of knowledge.
