Actor Bios

Cathie Norris (Truvy) last appeared on the SCT stage in
Disney’s Freaky Friday, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella,
and Mamma Mia! She is a hairdresser (No? Really, she is)
and dance instructor with Center for Theatre Arts at SCT. “I
want to thank my family for all their support. They know I
wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have my theatre family as well.”

Mary Elora King (Annelle) is making her SCT debut! A few
years ago she appeared in the Bristol Renaissance Faire in
Wisconsin and Timeless Music Review in Chicago. She is the
Assistant Director of Recruitment at KWU. She is originally
from Chicago and now lives with her dog, Lily, in Salina. Mary
loves pizza, movie nights, and operas; especially La Bohéme.

Vicki Price (Clairee) was last in Little Women: The Musical, Silent
Sky, and Calendar Girls at SCT. She also portrayed Truvy in SCT’s
production of Steel Magnolias in 2009. She is the Education
Director at CAPS in Salina. Vicki is married to Scott and they
have three children and three grandchildren: Andrea and Matt
Berthot (Max and Leo), David Price, and Megan and Chaz
Coberly (Alice). “My heartfelt thanks to the steel magnolias in my
life: my loving mother and grandmother watching from their
heavenly seats, my daughters, friends, co-workers, and the five
strong women with whom I so gratefully share this stage.”

Claire Schmidt (Shelby) was last seen on the SCT stage in
The Thanksgiving Play, Disney’s Freaky Friday, and Disney’s
Newsies. She will graduate from KWU in May! She is employed
as a dance teacher at CTA and Revolution School of Dance.
Claire is the daughter of Troy and Vicki Schmidt, and sister to
Emily, Sara, and Maddy. “I love baking cookies, drinking coffee,
and buying unnecessary amounts of Squishmallows. In my free
time, I enjoy dancing even more than I do at work and spending
time with my boyfriend, Ethan, and sister, Maddy!”

Michelle Cardinal Dolan (M’Lynn) last appeared on the SCT
stage in Mamma Mia!, Follies, and Les Misérables. She is the
Director of Development and Stewardship at KWU. Michelle
is married to Bob and they have four children: Josh Dolan,
Robert Dolan, Sharon Calloway, and Shannon Dolan. They
have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. After
years of performing in operas and musicals, she can now
mark this off her bucket list…her first stage play! Check!

Vickee Spicer (Ouiser) recently appeared as Marmee March
in the stellar Little Women, the Musical, Disney’s Freaky
Friday (playing five different characters!), and as Wilhelmina
in the national-award-winning Silent Sky. “I am very proud to
contribute to the continuity of productions during this time
when so many theatres across the country have not been
able to. My thanks to the community and the staff of SCT for
giving us all someplace we can still come to “play!”

thank you!

During the year of pandemic, many theatres have been
forced to close their doors forever. Others are still struggling
to reopen, and everyone’s recovery will take years.

Salina Community Theatre has been fortunate. We were
able to open again last July and have been able to continue
creating great live theatre with only a few pauses. We have
also been able to continue to provide theatre education
classes throughout this chaos.

But reduced capacities could not keep up with the cost of
doing productions and classes. Fortunately, so many of our
donors have come forward, often with heart-warming
generosity. This has allowed SCT to remain financially afloat.

One of the most generous contributions came this month
from the Jack Wilson Family Trust. Jack was born in Salina
in 1924. He was truly a self-made man with the mind of an
inventor. He worked for John J. Vanier, creating flour moving
processes that accelerated the capacity of that business.
After retiring, he started his own successful business,
Special Purpose Controls, building and selling controls for
irrigation equipment. He continued to be an inventor and
entrepreneur until his death in 2018.

where magic comes alive

CTA stands for Center for
Theatre Arts. This program has
grown exponentially over the past
several years.

We produce three shows a year, numerous camps and workshops, and provide year-round
classes in dance, vocal, and acting. CTA staff members are highly trained performers and are
dedicated to helping their students reach their full potential as well as providing them with rich
theatrical experiences on our stage. CTA enriches the lives of people in Salina and the
surrounding region by creating a broad range of quality theatrical programs for their
entertainment. Most importantly, CTA provides a positive, nurturing environment for youth to
develop their craft. Students learn to respect all aspects of theatre and receive a well-rounded
education in these areas.

We welcome all into this program with open arms. Learn how to become a part of the
CTA family by contacting the Education Director, Megan Coberly at 785-827-6126 or
at [email protected].

Photos by Karen Bonar, “I love being a CTA teacher and mom. CTA is a place
Heartland Photography of positivity, encouragement, and education, a
place I surround myself with for those reasons.”

In the lobby gallery

Stan Lauer Stan, a retired Salina middle school principal, began working
with wood to relieve stress from the job in 1988.
Woodwork His knowledge and love of the intarsia technique, where fields
of different colors and materials appear to be inlaid in one
another and fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, is his passion now. “It is like painting with
wood.” One of his ongoing traditions (since 2001) is the creation of his tiny bird ornaments.
Each bird consist of 14-16 different pieces that fit together measuring 1.5 inch tall and
approximately 3 inches long.

Stan’s work has been displayed in several galleries and ship around the world. Stan is no
stranger to having his wood products involved with SCT. In 2004, Stan provided the
carvings for an upright piano for the production titled “The Piano Lesson”. After the show,
the theatre auctioned the art work off as a fundraiser for SCT.

Sale of work from the lobby gallery generates a 20% commission for SCT programs.

Tips for a Superb Theatre Experience

f r o m Y o u r B o x O f f i c e M a n a g e r

Prior to the Performance
1. Purchase your tickets a week or more in advance for best choice of

performance date and seating. We often sell out, so tickets at the door may
be limited or not available.
2. Arrive 15-30 minutes ahead of curtain time to avoid the rush and for better
parking availability.
3. Use one of our conveniently located bathrooms in either the lobby or inside
the Kephart Theatre.
4. Purchase a snack or drink from our concessions area, located in the lobby.
The bar and concession stand are also open during intermission.
5. Read through and explore your Playbill to discover:

the actors, crew, and orchestra members involved in the production

•musical numbers and setting(s) of the production
••auditions for Salina Community Theatre and Center for Theatre Arts

upcoming productions
SCT Guild information

•what’s coming up next at SCT and CTA
••all our many invaluable supporters

6. As some of our patrons arrive late, please stay in your assigned seat at least
until intermission. If your current seat is unsatisfactory, please visit the box
office for help.
During the Performance
7. Video recording or taking pictures during any SCT or CTA performance is

strictly prohibited.
8. Please refrain from using your phone or any other electronic devices in any

way during the performance. This distracts other patrons, as well as the
performers on stage.
9. Stage lights are usually sufficient to refer to the Playbill. If you must use your
phone for illumination, do so during applause or at a scene break.
10. If you need to leave the theatre for any reason, please do so during applause
or at a scene break, unless it is an emergency. When returning to your seat,
please wait for applause or a scene break.
11.SCT welcomes children ages 5 and up (ages 3 and up for designated
performances and CTA productions). We understand children become restless
or upset at times. The SCT lobby is a quiet place to take your child when such
an instance arises.
If there’s anything we can do to make your experience more enjoyable, please
drop by the Box Office and let us know.
