I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO
EXPRESSING MYSELF AND
SHOWING MORE OF WHAT I
CAN DO ON THE PITCH…
In July 2021, Jiali Tang made history by becoming the first Chinese player to play in the Barclays FA Women’s
Super League when she joined Spurs on a season-long loan deal from Shanghai Shengeli. Adapting to a new
country, a different style of football and learning a language would be a challenge for most people, but Jiali
is taking it all in her stride.
The attacking midfielder has featured six times for Rehanne Skinner’s side so far this season, most notably
scoring her debut goal against Charlton to get our Continental Cup campaign off to a winning start. Her
performances were rewarded with a Chinese women’s Footballer of the Year award nomination and a call-up
to the China squad for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Before she departed for India to link up with Shui Oingxia’s squad, we caught up with Jiali to find out how she
has settled into life at Spurs, her predictions for the Asian Cup and what she hopes to achieve on her return
to north London.
