The announcement of a ‘double signing’ is always a striking moment. For two players to arrive at
a new club on the same day, and usually as part of the same move, is a rare occurrence yet, in our
history, we have witnessed a fair few of them. Following the recent arrival of our latest pair,
Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid, Liam Carson takes a look back at some of the
other ‘double signings’ we have made over the years.

It was ‘Rocket Ronny’s’ performance
in the previous round that provided
the standout moment of his Spurs
career, as he came off the bench to
bag a hat-trick in our 6-2 FA Cup fifth
round replay victory at Southampton.
“I’d been out with an injury and
hadn’t had many opportunities to

matches in the run-up to the game,”
says Rosenthal, who came on as a
43rd-minute substitute, as we trailed
2-0 at the Dell. “I always believed in

second half. “Nick Barmby crossed
the ball and I was able to get a good
connection with my left foot to
control my shot and put the ball
where I wanted,” he describes.
The Israeli’s second strike – a shot
from range on 59 minutes – took
the game into extra time. Twelve
minutes into the added period, he
completed his hat-trick with another
effort from outside of the box. Our
emphatic 6-2 victory was rounded
off with goals from Sheringham,
Barmby and Anderton.
“Everything worked for me that
night,” smiles Rosenthal. “There was
an element of luck involved of course,

you’re scoring from long range.
