He had brief spells as manager at Hertford

joining the coaching staff at Doncaster Rovers
in 1977. Four years there were followed by two
years back at Middlesbrough where he served
as reserve and first team coach. He was
manager at Darlington between 1983-87 and

Indeed, during his time at Plainmoor, Cyril

We won the second leg 3-0 at the Lane.
Unfortunately, tragedy wasn’t far away.
Cyril served Hartlepool United as manager

really was the heart and soul of the party.”

Juniors OUR LATEST ONE HOTSPUR MOMENT SAW GRACIE JEYNES (AGED EIGHT) WIN THE CHANCE TO
TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT THE HIVE WHEN OUR WOMEN’S TEAM TOOK ON MANCHESTER CITY IN
THE BARCLAYS FA WOMEN’S SUPER LEAGUE.
You can find out more about all our Junior competitions on the Junior pages at
tottenhamhotspur.com/fans, and here’s Gracie to tell her own story of an unforgettable day:
“Just before Christmas my mum came home and told me that I had won a competition to be a mascot for
Spurs Women at their first home game of the year against Manchester City. I was so excited and happy as
I’d been to the game against Arsenal Women at the new stadium and met Kit Graham and Hannah Godfrey
when they did their autograph session at the Tottenham Experience!
“I was really excited the morning of the match. I had chosen the friends I wanted to take with me and we
arrived at The Hive at 1pm. I got taken in with the other girls to the changing room and we were all given kits
to wear. Then we got to go out pitchside to watch the players warm up, and all the girls had a picture taken.
“It was so cool waiting in the tunnel for the players to arrive. I walked out with the captain Josie Green, and
she was really nice. The music started playing and we followed the referees out to the middle of the pitch - it
was amazing. We all shook hands with the referee and then I stood with Josie, the referee and Man City’s
captain for a photo. I then had to run all the way back to the tunnel so the match could start!
“We had really good seats to watch the game. Manchester City took the lead and I was a bit sad. Spurs
Women played really well but they lost the match 4-1.
“After the game we went back to the tunnel and all the players came by and stopped so that I could get my
programme signed. They all thanked us for going which was nice and I thanked them for letting me be their
mascot! An AMAZING day!”
