Chairperson Wong Huey Bin introduces herself and her role for today’s AGM. 2. Everyone recites “Ti-Sarana & Panca Sila Puja” three times. 3. Chairperson Wong Huey Bin introduced the agenda of the meeting. Chia Jan Feng proposed the agenda of the meeting and seconded by Wan Hoy Cheng. 4. The 41st AGM minutes is shown. Tan Ji Loun proposed the previous AGM minutes and seconded by Wong Kai Yi. Wong Huey Bin 2.0 Master’s Speech A video of the speech of Master Ven Ji Chi is played. NA 3.0 Advisor’s Speech She wished everyone a good evening. She expressed her gratitude to all attendees for taking the time to participate in the AGM. She emphasized the significance of the AGM as one of the most important events for the association. She further highlighted that in the future, when individuals graduate and enter the workforce, they may encounter professional associations in their respective fields, where AGMs are also crucial events. She regarded the current AGM as valuable training for those who wish to gain experience for such occasions in the future. She mentioned that Dr. Chong asked her to greet everyone and remind them to work hard in their studies, aiming for a 4.0 GPA. Next, she expressed delight and appreciation for the successful Panggung Bodhi and the progress made by Dharma common classes throughout the year. She expressed hope for a suitable location and smooth proceedings for Dharma common classes in the upcoming semester. Gratitude was extended to everyone for not raising any complaints and for maintaining the cleanliness of the classrooms. Other than that, she acknowledged that each person has a unique perspective on life at different stages. She personally holds a positive outlook on life, seeing it as a training ground to reach the ultimate enlightening moment beyond birth, death, and rebirth. She encouraged everyone to approach life with the understanding that challenges are part of the process and not to be disheartened by any circumstances. She emphasized the importance of opening our hearts and realizing that setbacks can be overcome. Every experience in life can be viewed as an opportunity for personal growth. She offered the availability to provide assistance if needed, though there may be a delayed response to WhatsApp messages due to her mother-in-law's health issues. She mentioned that this experience is a chance for them to cultivate compassion, patience, and learn how to interact with someone suffering from dementia. Believing in the pursuit of dreams, especially in youth, she encouraged perseverance even when faced with obstacles. She expressed concern about the potential stress young people may experience, particularly after the Movement Control Order (MCO) when transitioning from online interactions to face-to-face social interactions. She encouraged seeking support from Dr. Chong, the counselor, or herselves if encountering any problems. Gratitude was expressed to all attendees. 4.0 President’s Speech The President of UKMBF, Tee Kai Ling wished good evening and welcomed everyone to this AGM meeting. She is pleased to acknowledge the progress made by UKMBF this year under the dedicated leadership of the EXCO. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the organization has successfully carried forward the seniors' legacy of physical activities. Dharma common classes, convocation drink stalls, annual Buddhist camp, and Panggung Bodhi have either been resumed or shifted online. It has been a challenging journey, but the unity of the team has brought us this far. Next, she would like to extend her heartfelt appreciation to the members and juniors for their enthusiasm in embracing the Dharma and actively participating in our activities. She hopes that this support will continue in the future, allowing more individuals to engage with and learn from the Buddha's teachings. To the incoming exco and committees, she encourages them not to fear setbacks and failures. Instead, she advises them to view these experiences as opportunities for growth and learning. She reminds them that they have the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha as their guides, along with the continuous support of seniors, advisors, and Master Ji Chi. Lastly, she believes we can continue to study, practice, realize, and share the teachings of the Buddha. Thank you all for your dedication and support. 5.0 UKMBF Annual Report by Hon. General Secretary Koay Ke Ying, representative of the General Secretary of UKMBF presented the report on all the activities and meetings carried out by UKMBF throughout the two semesters of the 2022/2023 academic session. She also explained the duty of each post in the EXCOs board. Koay Ke Ying 6.0 Statement of Account Report by Hon. Treasurer Wong Kai Yi, representative of the Treasurer of UKMBF proposed the annual financial report of fellowship. The financial report was attached in the appendix A. Yeong Yee Tat proposed some modifications to the annual financial report: 1. The term "incentive" (Hibah incentive from CIMB) can be renamed as "interest from bank". 2. For the fixed deposit, it can be mentioned when the deposit was initially made into the bank. 3. The term "donation" can be renamed as "donation from the dharma class" to help the next EXCO have a better understanding of the source of the donation. Chia Jan Feng proposed to approve the statement of account and it was seconded by Melvin Ng Wen Xian. Wong Kai Yi 7.0 Dismissal of Current Centre Executive Committee Member Tan Ji Loun proposed to approve dismissal and seconded by Wan Jia Yee. The 2022/2023 President Tee Kai Ling announced the dismissal of the current centre of executive committee members. Wong Huey Bin 8.0 Reading of the Election’s Standing Order by the Chairperson The ad-hoc committee members took over the meeting. The members are: i. Chairperson read out the standing order. 9.0 Nomination Proper Chairperson read out the nomination proper. With the number of members who attended this meeting, a total of 9 EXCOs could be selected from the nominees. and two extra EXCOs can be added if needed or being agreed by the president. Chairperson invited members present to nominate the candidates using this style: I, (name) proposed (nominee’s name) as the nominee of the exco. This has to be seconded by another person who is present: I, (name) seconded. Chia Jan Feng proposed Melvin Ng Wen Xian as a nominee of the EXCO, seconded by Tee Kai Ling. Wan Hoy Cheng proposed Lim Kee Zun, seconded by Chia Jan Feng. Tee Kai Ling proposed Wan Jia Yee, seconded by Chia Jan Feng. Chia Jan Feng proposed Tai Yi Rui, seconded by Wan Hoy Cheng. He expressed his gratitude to everyone for providing him with the opportunity to serve as an EXCO of the UKM Buddhist Fellowship. He shared that the UKM Buddhist Fellowship holds great significance for him, as it is not just a place to learn Buddhism, but also a platform for personal growth and transformation. Melvin expressed his desire to continue growing and progressing alongside the UKM Buddhist Fellowship as we embark on the journey into the future. Lim Kee Zun mentioned that he is a first year student from FSSK, majoring in Political Science. His manifesto is to prepare the snack session at the end of the Dharma common classes. He believes that Dharma common classes provide an opportunity to learn Buddhism, so he wishes to assume the role of a committee member to uphold the lineage and spread awareness of its benefits to more people. Wan Jia Yee mentioned that she is a first year student from FEP, studying Economics. She explained that the reason for her application to become the EXCO is the awareness of the limited number of participants in BFUKM. Recognizing the value of this community, she wishes to contribute and support the association by becoming a part of it. Additionally, she hopes that her involvement will attract more individuals to join BFUKM, fostering an understanding of Buddhism and facilitating personal growth towards becoming better individuals who can contribute to a more peaceful world. Lastly, she expresses her gratitude for the opportunity. Tai Yi Rui mentioned that she is a first year student from PPCU, majoring in liberal studies. She expressed her interest in taking on the role of a committee member. The reason behind her decision is the limited number of participants. Besides, she enjoys working in smaller teams because successfully bringing everyone together gives her a great sense of accomplishment. Throughout the year, she actively participated as a committee member in events like the Annual Buddhist Camp and Panggung Bodhi, which provided her with valuable learning experiences. Lee Lye Ting mentioned that she is an Economics student in FEP, UKM and currently a first year student. She expressed her desire to continue serving as a committee member. She shared that her decision is motivated by the happiness and valuable learning experiences she has gained throughout the year. It is not solely about studying Buddhism but also about experiencing warmth and compassion within the community. She also wishes to extend an invitation to more individuals to join this close-knit family and experience the warmth of human connection. Ong Qi Yuan mentioned that she is a first year student of Business Administration from FEP. She expressed her hope to contribute her part to the Buddhist Association, with the aim of facilitating more people in learning, understanding, and developing a fondness for Buddhism. She extended her gratitude to everyone for their support and involvement. Gan Zhi Shuen mentioned that she is a first year student from FPEND, majoring in Special Education. She respectfully declined the nomination for a committee member position. She expressed concerns about her other responsibilities and the potential difficulty in balancing them effectively. However, she conveyed her willingness to continue as a UKMBF member, focusing on her study of Buddhism and sharing the teachings with her friends. Teh Teik Kuan N/A Sim June Yen mentioned that he is studying Political Science, and currently is a first year student from FSSK. His manifesto is to promote Buddhism through the aesthetic art of calligraphy. He has a regular practice of copying the Heart Sutra and possesses a deep passion for calligraphy. His intention is to utilize this skill as a means of captivating others' interest in Buddhism and inspiring them to engage in the practice of sutra copying, thereby encouraging a deeper understanding and exploration of the teachings. He expressed concerns about time management issues and, as a result, politely declined the offer to take on the role of a committee member. He extended his gratitude for the nomination. 11.0 Nomination of Auditor Chairperson carried on with the next agenda which is to elect an auditor for the statement of account of UKMBF 2023/2024. Wong Kai Yi is nominated and selected as the auditor of UKMBF 2023/2024. Tan Ji Loun 12.0 Declaration of the Result of Election After the voting session, the chairperson announced the top 9 nominees elected as the excos of UKMBF 2023/2024: (new member) 1. Melvin Ng Wen Xian represented the new batch of EXCO and said that he was grateful and thanked everyone for providing the opportunity to serve in UKMBF. He and the new committees will work harder to promote UKMBF to all Buddhist students and he hopes that they could have a good relationship and create bonding with one another. Lastly, he expressed their aspirations for a brighter future, where the UKMBF would continue to thrive and grow.
