I4 Telescoping Disconnect Tool & Fuse Tool
A. Epoxiglas Telescoping Disconnect Tools have maximum
convenience for the lineman because they permit him to perform
many routine jobs from ground level. The universal end fitting on
the insulated top section accepts a wide variety of attachments so
that the lineman can disconnect switches, replace cutout tubes

complete many other overhead tasks...all with one tool. The sticks
retract to approximately 5 ft. so that they can be carried on most
trouble trucks, often in the cab section.

HOTLINE TOOLS B. B. The FT-1 Fuse Tool is designed to assist in the installation
and removal of most cutout type overhead fuse links. The Fuse
www.americansafety.com Tool provides greater control of the fuse link during installation and
removal. The reciever on the Fuse Tool is slotted down one side to
allow for clearance of the fuse link ring.
When installing a fuse link, the slotted receiver on the Fuse Tool
improves installation onto the cutout trunnion by maintaining
the orientation of the fuse link, making it much quicker to install.
Because of the open cylinder the user is able to line up the Fuse
Tool with the fuse link for easy installation and removal.
When removing a fuse link, the Fuse Tool minimizes the risk of
dropping the fuse link by capturing the link in the receiver. The
Fuse Tool receiver holds the fuse link in place while it is dislodged
and removed from the cutout trunnion. The switch hook on the
Fuse Tool can be used to close in the fuse link.
By using the Fuse Tool, line crews are able to quickly and safely
remove and install most cutout type overhead fuse links found in
overhead distribution systems.
FEATURES:
• Heavy duty fuse receiver
• Corrosion resistant switch hook
• Universal spline for standard hotstick attachment
• Quickly and easily remove and install fuse links
• Increased safety during fuse link replacement
• Eliminate the danger of falling fuses

HOTLINE TOOLS Elbow Puller Tools facilitate removing elbow connectors from
bushings of transformers and other apparatus. Elbows that have
I18 Elbow Puller Tools been installed for a long period of time sometimes are difficult to
remove because silicone grease on the interface of the elbow and
A. bushing dries out and hardens. A special integral hook on the tool
B. head fits through the rubber eye of the metal hook of the bushing
cap. Used in the manner, the hook adds extra control and pulling
www.americansafety.com power to the grippers.
A. Impact Elbow-Puller Tools
FEATURES:
The lightweight tool employs a simple, slide-hammer mechanism
to easily disengage and assist in replacing elbows. The tool and
grippers help the operator control and elbow stiff underground
cable lead. For a sure, balanced grip the 5 lb. slide-hammer is
plastisol coated and flared at both ends. Also for secure handling,
both front and rear handgrip areas of the pole are coated with
Gripthread, a grit-filled rubber-base paint. Available in three
lengths, the tools are made of 1 1/4” diameter orange Epoxiglas
pole. The 6 and 8 ft. units meets OSHA requirements with 25
and 48 inches of insulation respectively from the tool end to the
handguard (as factory assemble). On the 4 1/2 ft. unit (labeled
“For Rubber Glove Use Only”) insulation length measures 5”.
OPERATION:
To pull an elbow connector - Insert hook though eye on elbow.
Close down grippers on elbow by rotating pole. Support tool with
one hand on front grip behind handguard and other hand on slide
hammer. Slam hammer from front to rear anvil. Resulting impact
should release elbow with suffcient momentum to withdraw it from
the bushing without extending arcing.
To replace an elbow connector - Follow the same procedure for
pulling except use slide hammer impact against front anvil to help
seat the elbow.
HOTLINE TOOLS NOTE: Grippers not included. Order grippers separately, see
replacement grippers table.

I19Transformer Gins
Chain Binder Type Transformer Gins - A “must have” tool for C.
hoisting equipment into position on a pole. These gins are made
up of a lifting eye, mast, chain binder and base. The C400-0090
has a standard base that permits installation on a pole that
offers no obstruction that may interfere with proper installation or
operation. The C400-0315 has an extended base that facilitates
the clearance of pole obstructions including a 4” x 5” crossarm.
Both models have a 3”’ diameter, 26” mast, 36” chain binder and
have a 2,000 lb. working load rating.
When determining the force put on the gin’s lifting eye both the
load and the pulling force must be considered. If a single block is420 lbs.
attached on the gin’s eye and a 200 lb. transformer is being lifted
- the force on the eye is 420 lbs. (including load x 10% to allow for
single sheave block friction.)
Therefore the maximum load that may be lifted with a single
sheave block is approximately 950 lbs.
Example: (950 x 2) + (950 x 10%) = 1995 lbs.

handle and release mechanism is simple to operated even when
wearing rubber gloves with leather protectors.
Both models have a 2,000 lb. working load rating, including load HOTLINE TOOLS
and fall-line pull. A swivel hook block should always be used in
the eye of the gin, and a block with swivel or a capstan near the
bottom of the structure should be used to control free end of the

APPLICATION
RUP Stinger Covers are molded with an overlapping lip so that
no field slitting is required. These covers may be cut-to-length
in the field. Many utilities purchased Stinger Covers pre-cut to a
predetermined length in order to speed installation.
Installing Stinger Cover to avoid incidental or “brush” contact by
vegetation is another useful application. All Stinger Covers should
be selected to completely encase the conductor allowing the
overlapping lip to relax to its original position.

HOTLINE TOOLS B. Distribution Wildlife Shields are installed on more than
100,000 transformers. Rauckman Distribution Shields offer
decreased animal outages without compromising the insulator’s
performance.
The types of animals that infiltrate utility equipment vary from
region to region. The squirrel continues to be the #1 culprit with
birds not far behind. A further look at the animals that invade
substations reveals that a bird’s nest attracts raccoons, snakes
and cats looking for food. Some animals enter substations
because the equipment may be warmer than the ambient
temperature. It is not all scientific though - squirrels are playful and
like to explore!
The graph shows the result of a 1990 IEEE survey that asked
utilities to identify animals that are known or potential sources of
animal-related outages.
• Removable inner rings allow for field adjustment to insulator size.

C. Wildlife ZAPShields™ - Installed on energized distribution
and substation equipment bushings and u-wing patent-pending
Rauck-Shock Technology™ engineered polymer, the ZAPShield™
minimizes the occurances of animal-related electric service
interruptions.
ZAPShield™ delivers a non-lethal electrostatic discharge when
contacted by an animal. Animals are second only to weather as
causes of unplanned outages. These outages inconvenience
customers and damage equipment resulting in substantial costs.
Training of animals is achieved through negative response
conditioning. After an animal receives a jolt from the ZAPShield™
it soon learns to stay away from equipment bushings.
FEATURES
• Can be installed hot and does not nessicarily require an outage.
• Use right out of the box, no hardware or assembly is required.
• Requires only one shotgun style hotstick.
• Long life using latest engineered polymer technology for UV protection,
track and flame resistance.
