HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE SOFTWARE

OVERVIEW

Software includes all the various forms and roles that digitally stored data may have and
play in a computer (or similar system), regardless of whether the data is used as code for a
CPU, or other interpreter, or whether it represents other kinds of information. Software thus
encompasses a wide array of products that may be developed using different techniques
such as ordinary programming languages, scripting languages, microcode, or an FPGA
configuration.

Computer software is so called to distinguish it from computer hardware, which
encompasses the physical interconnections and devices required to store and execute (or
run) the software. At the lowest level, executable code consists of machine language
instructions specific to an individual processor. A machine language consists of groups of
binary values signifying processor instructions that change the state of the computer from
its preceding state. Programs are an ordered sequence of instructions for changing the state
of the computer in a particular sequence. It is usually written in high-level programming
languages that are easier and more efficient for humans to use (closer to natural language)
than machine language. High-level languages are compiled or interpreted into machine
language object code. Software may also be written in an assembly language, essentially, a
mnemonic representation of a machine language using a natural language alphabet.
Assembly language must be assembled into object code via an assembler.

DEFINITION

Computer software, or just software, is a collection of computer programs and related data
that provide the instructions telling a computer what to do and how to do it. We can also
say software refers to one or more computer programs and data held in the storage of the
computer for some purposes. In other words software is a set of programs, procedures,
algorithms and its documentation. Program software performs the function of the program it
implements, either by directly providing instructions to the computer hardware or by serving
as input to another piece of software. The term was coined to contrast to the old term
hardware (meaning physical devices). In contrast to hardware, software is intangible,
meaning it "cannot be touched". Software is also sometimes used in a more narrow sense,

meaning application software only. Sometimes the term includes data that has not
traditionally been associated with computers, such as film, tapes, and records.[2]

Software is often divided into two categories:

 Systems software :
Includes the operating system and all the utilities that enable the computer to
function.

 Applications software :

Includes programs that do real work for users. For example, word processors,
spreadsheets, and database management systems fall under the category of
applications software.

APPLICATION SOFTWARE

Application software is developed to aid in any task that benefits from computation. It is a
broad category, and encompasses software of many kinds, including the internet browser
being used to display this page. This category includes:

 Business software
 Databases
 Decision making software
 Educational software
 Image editing
 Industrial automation
 Mathematical software
 Medical software
 Molecular modeling software
 Quantum chemistry and solid state physics software
 Simulation software
 Spreadsheets
 Telecommunications (i.e., the Internet and everything that flows on it)
 Video games
 Word processing

HMI software are one of the application software that use for communication between
human and machine.

TYPE OF HMI SOFTWARE

There are to many HMI software in the market .The type of software come with HMI
depend on the manufacture that made the HMI product .Some of the software are :

 Visual basic (VB)
It a very famous programming software in human machine interface application

 Cx Designer
Programming software developing by the OMRON corporation for their HUMAN
MACHINE INTERFACE device.

 Panel master designer(PM designer)
Programming software developing by the MYTEK for their HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE
device.

Every programming software must be install to the computer , so that programmer can
running the program and start to create a project that they want to programming

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Start Up

Before installing HMI software please check whether your computer's hardware meet with
the following requirements.

 At least Pentium CPU 4 and above
 At least 100MB space available in the hard drive.
 At least 64MB in available system memory.
 Serial port ,USB port or LAN port(Use for communication between HMI and

downloading files from PC)
 CD/DVD drive

 HMI software installing CD.
 Operating System Windows 2000/XP and above (For using Unicode text system)

Installation step

 Start computer
 After the computer running , check your hardware whether it match the requirement

of the HMI software .
 If it match , insert the HMI software installation CD
 Open the CD directory
 Search for the HMI software setup.exe
 Close all the application programs in the computer that not necessary before

installing.
 Double clicks HMI software setup.exe
 run setup program.
 Install according to the pop up instructions until it finish
 Search for File C:\Program Files\name of the software
 Icons/executing file: The installation will build a desk icon and an executing file.

*Refer your software installation manual of your HMI product

SOFTWARE NEW PROJECT CONFIGURATION

 Find the desk icon and an executing file of the HMI software.
 Double click the icon
 After the program appear at your screen , click new program
 Name the project
 Setting the requirement of the HMI device
 Save at the directory that you have setting.
 Start programming
*Refer your software manual of your HMI product

Trends:
disappearance of custom HMI, increasing access over Windows (Internet Explorer),

data entry by keyboard, touch screen, trackball (seldom mouse), buttons (hard-
feel).
