LIGHT AND SHADE

Migrating hopes of cranes,
Deep penetrating ideas.
Fathomless blue swirl emerges,
Feathers of a fertile mind.
Shadows of moonlight haunt,
Your melodies always pamper.
Absence makes presence permanent,
Echoes of rhythm, ashes of meaning.
Distance, Oh Poet! Poses no problem,
Silence too is eloquent, inspiring.
A sheared cat like me shiver,
Warmth disappeared unaware.
Lamps at heaven fully lit,
I see, hear heavenly sounds.
A lost soul strays, confuses,
Humanity delivers soul-sounds!
Life remains like ember,
No cinder exists, but sparks.
No problem, distance is proximity,
Echoes coax me to write more,
For your voice always inspire,
And my soul energised, activated.
I salute....

TRIBUTE TO A STALWART

It is not always that one gets to write about a stalwart. And it is not very often that one gets to meet a stalwart. Well ! I am privileged
to have met Yayati Madan Gandhi sir and today I feel honoured to offer my humble words as a tribute to him.

Dr. Madan Gandhi, a litterateur extraordinaire as well as a personality beyond comparison visited the planet Earth from 1940 to
2019. His entire life had been a pertinent example of service and humility. His indomitable will and insurmountable
determination has created a rich legacy for posterity to follow. Dr. Gandhi had an exceptional latitude when it came to literature in
general and poetry in particular. He had been conferred upon the title of Poet Laureate. Always inclined towards serving others
selessly, he had been extremely supportive of budding writers. He was not only a beacon of light but a complete lighthouse
guiding and illuminating the literary path of many including me.

I recollect my cherished memories with revered sir. Six summers ago, I was at the verge of getting my second anthology
published. A mutual friend had introduced me to Dr. Gandhi. He readily agreed to publish my work. I had desired to receive the
rst copy through his august hands. Apprehension had set in when I was to meet him. Having heard a lot about his towering
personality, I had expected the meeting to last few minutes but I was in for a grand surprise. I along with my family had gone to
meet sir. We were greeted with much warmth. The meeting that was assumed to be of few minutes, lasted for hours. We discussed
lavishly about literature along with the then literary and publishing landscape. Dr. Gandhi presented the rst copy of my second
anthology entitled 'Poised Peace' to me. He also appreciated my work. I felt immensely comforted in his benign presence. He was
very candid and loving towards the members of my family. I also had a chance to meet Dr. Sushma Gandhi, his signicant other.
Both the partners radiated down to earth energies to such extent that the air was infused with humility. I consider myself blessed
as I was in the shadow of a magnicently brilliant soul.

Dr. Gandhi complemented greatness with huge heights of humility. He was admired and adored by young and old, together. The
grandeur of his words is still unparalled and will remain so eternally. He was a respected personality not only amidst literary
cognoscenti but also in all the circuits.

As I sum up my article, I am reminded of a couplet.

अ छी संगत बठै कर सगं ी बदले प
जैसे िमलकर आम से मीठी हुई धपू ।

Like the heat of the scorching sun becomes bearable when one nears a Mango tree, similarly the company of good people
brings out the best in us. Whosoever came in contact with Dr. Gandhi was transformed into a better person. Sir had the
astonishing ability to enlighten the masses.

People like him are rare. He was an angel of God, a warrior who made it a point to be of service to others. I strongly believe
that Yayati Madan Gandhi sir still blesses us from the heavenly abode where he rests with his Guru and God.

THE MYSTIC MARINER

Great poet and artist has gone out of sight,
Guardian spirit guides many a soul
Passing through silent minds at night
His memory stands as a symphony whole.

Madan Gandhi is a name which resounds
In the halls of fame forever pronounced
We-bards bow our heads in reverence
He was an artist par excellence.

His music measuring the cosmic dance
Has already survived death perchance
One cannot frame his intellect by chance
Transcendence vision is in pure trance.

In the alleyways of high musing
Secluded by light of moon in eternity
He shall dwell beyond borders of learning
Marking the passage for our epiphany.

The soul shines through his words abundant
Time and God in his immeasurable presence
His philosophical musings worthy cause
We the minstrels shall always sing his loss.

REMEMBERING DR. GANDHI

A spiritualist, an educationist, a world poet in true sense, but above all a
ne human being Dr Madan Gandhi not just touched lives but
transformed them. While pages and pages can be lled on the ne
qualities and extraordinary talent he possessed, what stood out for me
was his humility and down-to-earth persona. As I sit and type, his
laughter resonates in my ears as he reminisced about his teachers, his
mother and his childhood. What I wouldn't trade to listen his voice once
again!

I can't possibly talk about Dr. Gandhi without mentioning our common
fried D. Russel Micnhimer. A typical Oregonian, Russel minced no
words especially when it came to offering critique to poetry. Any other
poet and that too of the stature of Dr Gandhi would take none of it. But
Madan ji not only published his books but also inundated Russel with
affection that only a divine soul can possess. Over the years, Madan ji's
inuence on Russel and his poetry was quite apparent. His ability to
transform the people for better is as rare as his capacity to selessly
encourage others and further the cause of poetry.

I had the opportunity to compile and edit a couple of books consisting of
short poems by Dr. Gandhi and the ethereal verses have left an indelible
mark on my mind and soul. I can only say that I was lucky to have known
Madan ji and met him. It was him who encouraged me to compile my
solo book and later a joint one with Russel Micnhimer to published it
under the aegis of The Poetry Society of India.

People like Dr. Gandhi are rare and fortunate are those whose life they
touched. His legacy is too great to be forgotten anytime soon. His poetry
will continue to uplift and inspire others to do more, to be more.

PEACE POETRY

Peace poetry, such as it may be named—like the peace association that it anticipates, reects, and argues with—is part
of a larger human conversation about the possibility of a more just and soothing arrangement of social and
environmental, ecological relationships among literary oriented people in promoting peace related activities within
a nation, a community or a society. Peace sometimes means, peace within, when we are facing inner struggles. Good
poetry that evokes a demanding imaginative awareness of understanding or a specic emotional response through
language chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm.

Poetry is a vast subject, as old as history and older, present wherever religion is present, possibly—under some
denitions—the primal and primary form of languages themselves. Poetry has a musical quality with rhythm, pitch,
metre and it may use gures of speech such as simile and metaphor. Dening poetry; man's nevertheless familiar
acquaintance with it; the differences between poetry and prose; the idea of form in poetry; poetry as a mode of
thought; and what little may be said in prose of the spirit of poetry.

Poetry is the other way of using language. Perhaps in some hypothetical beginning of things it was the only way of
using language Both poetry and language are stylishly thought to have belonged to ritual in early agricultural
societies; and poetry in particular, it has been claimed, arose at rst in the form of magical spells recited to ensure a
good harvest.

Whatever the truth of this hypothesis, it blurs a useful distinction: by the time there begins to be a separate class of
objects called poems, recognizable as such, these objects are no longer much regarded for their possible yam-growing
properties, and such magic as they may be thought capable of has retired to do its business upon the human spirit and
not directly upon the natural world outside. The word “Poetry” originates from a Greek word meaning to make. A
poet is thus a maker and the poem something that is made or created. No single denition of poetry is possible.

Readers reasoning asking for a denition are to take care of the borderline case, and this is what a denition, as if by
denition, will not do. That is, if an individual asks for a denition of poetry, it will most certainly not be the case that
he has never seen one of the objects called poems that are said to embody poetry; on the contrary, he is already
tolerably certain what poetry in the main is, and his reason for wanting a denition is either that his certainty has been
challenged by someone else or that he wants to take care of a possible or seeming exception to it: hence the perennial
squabble about distinguishing poetry from prose, which is rather like distinguishing rain from snow—everyone is
reasonably capable of doing so, and yet there are some weathers that are either-neither.

Poetry of Over Loving Poet

Our Founder: Madan G Gandhi
1940-2019

LOVE TO LET GO LOVE'S PORTAL

My heart weary, sad and sullen In love's portal you can enter
moon split in a million ripples having shed your all
with cracks surfacing in a dry lake only one is welcome here
I play an old sad sweet refrain
who is above all desires
Tonight, pray ing away all shame burnt them in self-lit re
let us dance like moths on tip of a ame on his roof no sun and moon
captives of the heart's desire
burn we together in the passion's re All roaring in the sea is stilled
snow doesn't melt, nor it dazzles
No sacred, no profane even in the high noon sun is not visible
let the heart set the rule of the game
love to let go, love to restrain Only blue translucent light evenly spread
love ll the cup of joy and pain. over the eternity of silence all the time
where stars assemble to see their reection

That's the abode with my love I dwell
where fear is an exile, hope unheard of
light and darkness void of recognition.

A TRIBUTE TO A GREAT SOUL..

(In memory of my master Yayati Madan G. Gandhi)

How death can snatch you away...
From the midst of us.

How can we disremember your untold magical love.

We recall you with boundless awe, O! the great holy spirit
Born in human form with magnanimous heart
As an angel of peace and tranquility
As a messenger of universal brotherhood
As the saviour of poor and downtrodden.

The monument you erected with tireless endeavor
Will never fall....
Footprints you left on the sands of time will never efface
But will guide millions for time long.

O! the great Poet, the sage poet, the visionary poet
Your legendary works with extolled thoughts and lofty ideals
Your concern for the sake of humanity
For the sake of poor and under privileged
To give them justice
To save them from social abuse
To save them from moral degradation
Has made you immortal indeed.

You won the hearts of the Globe
And I bow down my head to your sublime feet.
