Executive Summary Labuan Thirumurugan Temple located within the perimeters of Royal
Malaysian Air Force (Labuan base) has been serving the spiritual and
cultural needs of not only the Hindu fraternity of RMAF in Labuan but
also the Hindu civilians living in Labuan for the past 50 years. A visit to
this temple is also a must for Hindu visitors to Labuan. The temple was
last renovated in the year 2000. The forces of nature has taken a toll on
the temple structure and it is in dire need of upliftment. To spearhead
the efforts to redevelop the temple a new temple organizing committee
comprising of RMAF staff and civilians in Labuan was duly registered
(Thirumurugam Temple Management F T Labuan). As an added boon,
the Ministry of Defense, Malaysia has gifted the land housing the temple
formally to the temple and the Perbadanan Labuan (Local Authority)
has given approval to begin development works. The aim of this
presentation is to provide devotees, well-wishers and donors with an
account of the historical background, current status, development efforts
expanded and plans for temple rebuilding. The temple will be within a
gated and guarded compound, with ergonomically designed landscape,
complete with tranquil and serene atmosphere. It will be a state-of-the-
art complex which will cater for the spiritual and cultural needs of
Hindu visitors. A convenient access to the temple grounds via a new
infrastructure plan has been developed. Being the only Hindu temple in
the Federal Territory of Labuan, it will be listed as one of the tourist
destination on the island. The rebuilding cost is expected to exceed 2.5
million ringgit. Consecration of the new Labuan Thirumurugan Temple
is targeted to be held in the beginning of 2021. With this we seek donors
and well-wishers to contribute in cash or kind towards this noble cause.
