The Making
of Innovative

props

Folk Tales by Students of DPS Gurgaon
To bring the story alive, students of class VIII selected folk tales to be
staged.

The ground work for the same was…
 The teacher facilitators encouraged the students to read variety of

folk tales.
 The students were divided into groups of 10 or 11
 They read and choose stories which had an element of drama, usage

of props, and a number of characters.
 All the stories had a message relevant for the students

Rehearsals

Final
production

Critical note:
The activities met all the parameters of learning… with fun.
The students were given an opportunity to choose the stories they wanted to
depict as drama. The consideration interestingly enough was the number of
characters in the stories so that all the members in the group would get a chance
to be a part of the theatre. At times the students group was innovative and
created more characters.
The innovative use of props was an eye opener for us teachers. We were the
learners.
Team leadership, team building , time management ,and the learning of writing a
good script , art work , dialogue delivery, stage presentation were all the tangible
and intangible learning for all.

Clay modeling with the students of DPS Gurgaon
DPS students have worked with clay before . However
creating clay animals
characters from the folk tales that they had read was enjoyable
and challenging .
The different sections of Class VII worked on this activity.
Some were selected for the
