Story Boards

We at DPS Gurgaon used the story board format as a medium to
depict and understand folk tales.

Why storyboard…

Story board is a writing format placed in logically sequenced
order.
They appear in many forms, each form is a place for the writer
to put information , pictures , symbols or texts.
Our students used cartoons, sketches and painted their
imagination and put life into these folk tales.

Making of a Story Board

STEP 1- Plan of Action - Brainstorming
The students discussed the different styles of presentation of
folktales
The diary notes were given to the students in the first week of
November to read and identify stories of their choice from Poland and
India.

STEP -2
Format of the story board was introduced…

Worksheets were assigned to the students of class VIII with
instructions for the story board.

STEP -3
Designing the content for the story board
Groups were formed where students brainstormed and
discussed the content and the art style that they would like to
use for designing their story board. They were encouraged to
gather more concrete information on its creative aspect.

STEP-4
On the job… numerous story boards were created

The students on completion reviewed each others work and discussed the

morals and values of the stories.

Teacher’s Note

It was an enriching experience for me as well as the students during the
making of the story board. I read folktales from Poland and saw the
depiction of the same in the format of a story board. It was a visual treat to
see the stories come alive on paper.
Most of the story board were done with a great deed of thought and artistic
ability.

The students learnt about the cultures of both Poland and India. The
discussion on moral values was
interesting. The students realized that even though there may be difference
in cultures the value are the same.

Critical Note

There were 115 stories submitted. The presentation of some of the groups
was not at par due to lack of
group dynamics. They were encouraged to resubmit their work as per the
required standard.
