Chapter 1
Introduction
1.1 The origin and importance of the project
Making a basket from plastic water bottle caps is a folk wisdom that villagers have
invented, which is to make plastic water bottle caps into the shape of the basket,
which is a way to recycle and find materials easily locally. Because the bottle cap left
over from drinking is a waste material. Therefore, a project to make a basket from a
plastic water bottle cap was created.
1.2 Objectives
1. To reuse used water bottle caps
2. To make a basket from a water bottle cap
1.3 Expected Benefits
1. The used water bottle caps have been reused to benefit.
2. You can craft a basket from a water bottle cap.
1.4 Scope of research
1. invention project Make a basket out of plastic bottle caps.
2. The project period is from November 15, 2021 to February 20, 2022.

Theories and Related Research
The origin of the basket from plastic water bottle caps is the desire to recycle used
items. Therefore invented the invention of a basket from plastic bottle caps to use
again. Project of making baskets from plastic bottle caps Study the relevant documents
as follows
2.1 Invention
2.2 Plastic
2.3 Types of plastics
2.4 Environmental impact
2.1 Invention
Creativity with regard to the structural or mechanical characteristics of the product,
including the methods of manufacturing, maintaining or improving the quality of the
product or creating a new, different product.
2.2 Plastic
Plastic is that which can be molded into various shapes. Plastic is a material that
is stable when in the process of being a product used in various applications, but when
in the production process, the plastic material is soft and can be shaped. or compress
as needed using heat and pressure
The first plastic material is Celluloid is used as an alternative to elephant work in
billiard balls. In the latter part of the 19th century by the inventor, John Wessay Hyatt,
used cellulose nitrate mixed with brewing.
2.3 Types of plastics
Plastics can be divided into two types
1. Thermoplastics are plastics that, when made into products, can also be re-
melted. Can be used again and again.
2. Thermosetting plastics are plastics that, when made into products, cannot
be melted. It can be recycled again because in the process of making the product
there will be a chemical change. The plastic molecules bonded together in a

crosslinked way, the use of heat can no longer be softened and, when heated to a
great extent, will scorch and break.
There are 7 types of recycled plastic as follows
1. Polyethylne Terephthalate, also known as PET (PET or PETE), is a clear, hard
plastic with good impact resistance, not brittle, easy to break and gas permeable.
drinking water bottle Vegetable oil bottles, etc., can be recycled into fibers for making
sweaters, carpets and synthetic fibers for stuffing pillows, etc.
2. High Density Polyethylene, abbreviated as HDPE (HDPE), is a tough and
shatterproof plastic. Various shapes can be easily used to make baby bottles, water
bottles, and packaging for detergents, shampoos, etc. They can be recycled into Oil
bottles, pipes, plastic crates, artificial wood, etc.
3. Polyvinyl chloride (Polyvinylchloride) or better known as PVC (PVC) used to
make water pipes, clear rubber hoses, film for food wrapping. Plastic sheets for doors,
windows and artificial leather, etc. can be recycled into water pipes or gutters. For
agriculture, traffic cones, furniture, plastic benches, tape cassettes, cables, artificial
boards, etc.
4
4. Low Density Polyethylene (Low Density Polyethylene) can be abbreviated as
LDPE (LDPE) is a plastic that is soft, tough, highly stretchable, clear, durable, but not
resistant to heat. Used to make food wrapping film and wrapping, bread bags, cold
bags for food packaging, can be recycled into black bags for garbage, handle bags, trash
cans, floor tiles, furniture, artificial wood sticks, etc.
5. Polypropylene (Polypropylene), abbreviated PP (PP), is a plastic that is clear,
resistant to heat, maintains its shape, toughness and impact resistance. It is also
resistant to chemicals and oils. Used to make food containers such as boxes, bowls,
plates, buckets, baskets, chilled water bottles, sauce bottles, yogurt glasses, and
medicine bottles. They can be recycled into car battery boxes. Auto parts such as
bumpers and oil funnels, tail lights, plastic brooms, brushes, etc.
5
6. Polystyrene (Polystyrene), also known as PS (PS) is a clear plastic. but brittle
and easy to break Used to make various containers Or foam for food, etc., can be
recycled into hangers, video boxes, rulers, thermometer bulbs, light switch panels,
heat insulators, egg trays, and various appliances.
7. There is no specific name given. But not one of the 6 plastics mentioned
above. But it's a plastic that can be melted again.
2.4 Environmental impact
Plastics are durable substances that decay very slowly. Combustion of some
plastics produces toxic fumes in the air. Plastics manufacturing plants are often the
source of many polluting chemicals in the atmosphere. PVC plastic (#3-PVC), which is
widely used in packaging. Food and liquids, toys, construction tools, plumbing, and
everything from cosmetics to bathroom curtains. There will be chemicals that are toxic
to adipates and phthalates in large quantities. These substances help PVC to be
flexible. (plasticizer) and may be released from PVC when contact with food The World
Health Organization reports that the chemicals used in The production of PVC is a
carcinogen. The EU bans the use of DEHP (di-2-ethylehexyl phthalate) for children's
toys DEHP, the most popular plasticizer gun used in PVC production. EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency), which is a surveillance organization. The
environment in the United States defines polystyrene (#6-PS) as one of the toxins that
may be found in drinking water. due to the production process Polystyrene pollutes
the atmosphere. and destroy the ozone layer In addition, styrofoam food containers
may release some disturbing compounds. Hormone function and may cause cancer as
well.
6
Plastics in the #7-other group, which usually mean polycarbonate may release
bisphenol-A (bisphenol-A, BPA), which is a precursor to production and is classified as
a hormone disrupter and may be released into food and beverages. In research, it was
found that BPA increased the weight of lab animals. and affects the level of hormones
in the blood They also found that a small amount of BPA caused insulin resistance,
leading to inflammation and heart disease.
Therefore, plastic waste should not be disposed of with non-toxic waste. can be
recycled, such as fresh waste, burnable waste, non-burnable waste, etc., but should
be disposed of separately by type. plastic waste and wash Clean before throwing away
so that these plastic wastes can be recycled into other products to reduce global
environmental problems.
