this crisis and seek to enhance
industry practices.

BY MUHAMMAD BASYAR AIMAN BIN BAHAR NIZAM

When companies do business, the marketing department plays a role in delivering products and

TRADITONAL VS DIGITAL

TRADITIONAL
MARKETING

The traditional marketing process used to
be time taking for capturing customer
attention, it was rather simple. Newspapers,
Television, Radio, Print Ads and Billboards were
the most popular tools for targeting customers.
Purchases could either be direct telephonic or
through agents. Customers also had limited
choices. The offline connection with the
audience did produce fruitful results; however,
it came at a huge cost and some other
disadvantages, because of which all its formats
were not wisely used.

DIGITAL
MARKETING

On the other hand, with the rapid

advancement of information technology and

high-speed broadband, access to digital media

got augmented. The customers became more

informed than ever, seeking information

through diverse search engines to make their

purchasing decisions. Various new digital

marketing means opened up which allowed

more effective selling through more efficient

channels such as social media marketing,

mobile applications, search engine

optimization, Google ads or online magazines.

This resulted in encouraging most businesses

to inevitably enter the digital space and

On February 16, 2021, Malaysia's National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Handbook was launched in a

Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines were expected to arrive in Malaysia earlier than expected on February 21,
2021. A COVID‐19 vaccine is a vaccine intended to provide acquired immunity against severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), the virus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19).

COVID-19 VACCINE

EXPERIENCES

Prof Dr James Koh Kwee Choy arrived at Hospital Tunku Ja’afar

in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, on March 18 for his first dose of

Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine. He joined the others who were

already there waiting and soon he was called up. His identity was

checked and verified. Then it was time for a briefing and a ten-

minute counselling session with an assigned doctor. A short medical

history was taken — covering medical conditions and medications.

He was given time for any questions he might have.

“It was quite a long process,” says Prof Dr James Koh Kwee Choy

as he recalls his first ‘date’ with the Covid-10 vaccine. “But the

Prof Dr James Koh Kwee Choy injection itself was very fast and painless, just a very small nick that
you don’t really feel at all,” he assures.

According to Prof Koh, side effects vary widely but it is very rare that you will experience severe

reactions. For him, he experienced pain and swelling at the injection area and was tired for about three

days. “I slept a lot,” he said, while some of his colleagues had fever and chills. “There is no need to worry

about the side effects because these are expected reactions to a vaccine. It shows that your body is

working to produce antibodies,” he explained.

Prof Koh also explained that it is a misconception that the two doses are the only ones we will ever

need to take: “That’s not the case. The virus will mutate and you will need to get booster shots regularly.”

This means whether you wait or you don’t, booster shots will be part of our life for the foreseeable future.

“Get the vaccine because we’re not just protecting ourselves but protecting others,” he says. And if you

are still hesitating, heed his words: “If we do not reach herd immunity, it may not take away the personal

protection of those who are vaccinated…but what it does mean is that we might live from one MCO to

another.”

Tips from Prof Koh, on that day (vaccine day), you need to turn up for the appointment, wear loose

clothing that allows doctors to easily access the shoulder. Then do not forget to bring a mobile phone with

your MySejahtera Id and NRIC. Once you arrive, you need to scan several QR codes with the MySejahtera

app. After registration, you will need to sign the consent form saying that it is agreeable to the vaccine

and then can proceed with the first dose. For the second dose between two to three weeks after.
