Floor ’16-‘17

Created in 1974-75, the Latino Floor residential program is an opportunity offered to first year students
looking to connect with other students with similar interests and/or cultural backgrounds. The goal of the Latino
floor is to create and promote a positive, supportive atmosphere that eases the transition of freshmen Latinx
students into USC life and empowers them to become prominent campus leaders. The Latino Floor provides
extensive community service, cultural, academic and social support throughout the year.

A way I always remembered describing La CASA
was "A Home Away From Home". With friendly
and familiar faces, a kitchenette to take lunch
breaks, and areas where I could nap in between
classes, La CASA was there to help me feel at peace
while being a student at USC. I loved working at
the front desk, where I would greet visitors and
help them where I could. There were times when
planning for events or doing certain tasks would become very stressful. However, all my
experiences there helped me grow and develop the skills that have helped me so much to
this day. Thank you to Leti, Billy, Luz, and all my amazing co-workers for making my job at
El Centro a much more enjoyable, fun, and valuable learning experience. I look forward to
seeing the great work that La CASA will continue to do.

I worked at La CASA from my first day on campus, until my last day
there. I am forever grateful for the amazing people I had the pleasure of
meeting and for all the impactful events we were able to collaborate on
for the larger Latinx community. A special thank you to Leti, who made
working at La CASA feel like being at home with your family. There are
not enough words to describe the love she radiates and her genuine
yearning to get to know students and make them feel welcomed.
Through my involvement in La CASA, I was able to meet some of the
most amazing, funny, passionate, and hardworking individuals I have
ever met. Thank you to Sully for making my third year at La CASA an
absolute joy, I always looked forward to going to work because I knew I would get to see her sunny
smile. Finally, I am honored to have gotten close to Luis, Jose, Matt, Carla, and Jennifer during my last
year. I will never forget all of our shenanigans, the loud laughs when we rolled our r’s together, or us
sitting down to put together our hamburgers as if we were on a picnic. Through these stories and
people, I hope to relay just how homey and magical La CASA is. Lifelong friendships are built there.
Though I am graduating and won’t be working here anymore, I will always be around, especially as my
little sister Jennifer De Anda Plascencia continues her journey here. I am excited to see all the great
things La CASA has in store for its students, y’all are the reason why we work so hard. Fight On!

The job introduced me to many campus and community

My experience working in La Casa was my
favorite memory at SC. I met so many students,
professors, and staff of color. I was able to
experience diversity and inclusion. I met John
Legend and had lunch with Carol Folt, first
female President of SC, thanks to La Casa
connections and networks. Everyday was a
learning experience and opportunity to network.
I found my voice and learned about so many resources and student organizations, that I
ended up becoming so involved. Billy is like that really cool uncle and Leticia is that sweet
grandmother. Siempre me sentía en familia.
