10To advertise call 07858 114061Dave’s top tipsLow level to close coupled cisternsHow can I change my old low-level toilet to a new close-coupled toilet without having a gap behind the cistern? Well there are two possible answers. You either move all of the outgoing pipework in your bathroom wall or floor, or you make a simple box that goes on the wall behind the new close-coupled cistern. The new cistern is then fixed to this box, which can then be tiled or painted depending on what you like.Even if the bathroom walls are tiled already, using strong construction adhesive you can stick the required timbers on the wall and then tack some plasterboard to them when the adhesive is dry. Make sure that you insert a timber cross member at the height of the screw holes which secure the cistern to the wall. The reason a low level toilet does not often exchange easily for a close coupled unit is because 99% of the time a low level unit has a waste outlet which goes down into the floor. If the low level unit you have has a waste outlet which goes directly through the wall or turns at a right angle out of the back of the toilet to go right or left away from the toilet, then you should have no problem replacing it with a close coupled toilet. If your low level unit goes into the floor, the floor outlet is too far away from the wall to allow an easy exchange with a close-coupled unit. You can either dig up the floor and install another pipe, or continue with the box method described above.RegardsDave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you.Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

We are all keen to look after the wild birds in our gardens and David will be very happy to give us tips on how we can encourage and protect our Spring and Summer visitors.Talks on Salvias, Hidcote Manor and Bee Keeping are all topics for the coming season. Larkhay WIDespite the cold and wet weather we are all enduring at present, we had an excellent turnout for our February meeting. It was particularly lovely to welcome back our secretary Bev, after a nasty accident before Christmas, thankfully she is making an excellent recovery and was on fine form. We discussed a number of interesting gardens and walking tours of Gloucester, to visit and participate in the future, all with cafes of course for the obligatory coffee and cake! Two of our members have kindly arranged a walk on International Womens Day, Sunday 8th March, to meet in the car park at Starbucks on Eastern Avenue at 10am. This will be a gentle guided walk taking in the Aboretum and ending back at Starbucks most likely having coffee. An enjoyable way to mark an important day.We had an extremely interesting and informative talk from a Fraud Protection Officer from Gloucester Police. Despite the serious nature of the topic, the officer managed make us all laugh on a number of occasions. The message was very simple and clear: Stop Think Take time to think: is this fraud? There are very good leaflets and information online and the overwhelming message was Stop, take time, and talk to either friends and family before making any decisions. We all came away with leaflets having learnt a lot.We have a varied and interesting programmes of events for the coming year, if you would like to learn about the WI and Larkhay WI, meet new friends, have coffee and a chat then please come along and join us, you would be very welcome. We meet on the second Thursday of the month, 7.30pm at Hucclecote Community Centre. For further information please contact Sarah, our President on 01452 548101 or Bev our Secretary on 01452 613208. .Thought for the month: ‘What isn’t making the headlines’As I have been reflecting on the stories that make the headlines like the recent public fall-out in the Beckham family, I have been pondering what doesn’t make the headlines. Most of the news we see is ‘bad’ news however, it seems to me that there is so much ‘good news’ that many are engaged in that will not make the headlines but is making a real difference in our world and in our community in Hucclecote.Lots of ordinary couples choosing faithfulness to each other, countless parents making sacrifices for their children. Numerous volunteers from the local community resourcing foodbanks, running groups to help connect people across the whole age spectrum. Many of these are run and resourced by local churches. These quiet, daily decisions to honour commitments and to keep loving, giving, and serving when no-one is watching will never make the headlines, but they are the stories of so many lives.I want to encourage you all to continue with your everyday faithfulness that often only God sees. Being generous to someone in need, time spent making a meal for someone who is pressed, that decision to reach out to the person that is easily overlooked. We might never make the news but we can be good news where we live, work and play.By Pastor Simon Duan (Hillview Church)
