3 Please mention The Hucclecote-Link when responding to adverts A bit about The Hucclecote- The Hucclecote-Link Dear Neighbours, Welcome to the March edition of your Hucclecote Link. At last Spring is on it’s way - the nights are starting to pull out, the mornings are lighter, there are snowdrops and daffodils blooming, and although I think there may still be a cold spell ahead, it’s certainly a milder day as I write this today. So with Mothers Day, and Easter weekend falling this month, along with a change in the clocks at the end of the month, there’s a lot to look forward to. Spring is always that time of year where we start to think about having a good old spring clean in our homes. So if you are looking for a local professional domestic cleaning service, see what Dab Cleaning Services can offer on page 19. Or perhaps you need help with decluttering of your home, Emerald Angels can help you out with this service, read more on page 18. With the bank holiday at the end of the month, it can be a time when we start to think about what DIY needs doing around the home. If you are after someone to help with painting and decorating, we have a couple of local businesses; EHI and KJS Decorating, that can be found on page 9. Maybe you have been thinking about utilising the space in your loft, we have a great company on board; Access4Lofts, find them on page 7 and see how they can help you renovate this space. If you are a local business that is thinking about advertising in 2024 - take advantage of our March offer of a half page at just £55 per month for 4 months, do get in touch for more details. Have a great month ahead Sarah. The Link Directories (Gloucester) Ltd cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions or endorse companies, products or services that appear in this magazine. 10 To advertise call 07858 114061 Dave’s top tips Low level to close coupled cisterns How can I change my old low-level toilet to a new close-coupled toilet without having a gap behind the cistern? Well there are two possible answers. You either move all of the outgoing pipework in your bathroom wall or floor, or you make a simple box that goes on the wall behind the new close-coupled cistern. The new cistern is then fixed to this box, which can then be tiled or painted depending on what you like. Even if the bathroom walls are tiled already, using strong construction adhesive you can stick the required timbers on the wall and then tack some plasterboard to them when the adhesive is dry. Make sure that you insert a timber cross member at the height of the screw holes which secure the cistern to the wall. The reason a low level toilet does not often exchange easily for a close coupled unit is because 99% of the time a low level unit has a waste outlet which goes down into the floor. If the low level unit you have has a waste outlet which goes directly through the wall or turns at a right angle out of the back of the toilet to go right or left away from the toilet, then you should have no problem replacing it with a close coupled toilet. If your low level unit goes into the floor, the floor outlet is too far away from the wall to allow an easy exchange with a close-coupled unit. You can either dig up the floor and install another pipe, or continue with the box method described above. Regards Dave Stevens. If in doubt call me (see main advert for number) and I will do the investigating for you. Disclaimer. All advice above is given in goodwill with many years experience. We cannot guarantee however that your problems will be rectified so please, if in doubt call us before undertaking any works yourself.

Our members met at Brickhampton Golf Club where a short business meeting covered the events being organised which included entries for “Why I %rst joined the WI” competition being arranged by Gloucestershire Federation, and a Workshop making Easter Cards using washi tape for our members. Progress was being made in collecting toiletries and personal items which Silverdale members and friends had generously given to be donated to the local Women’s Refuge. Lunch was then served which was delicious, the raffle was drawn and the afternoon %nished with coffee and a round of thanks to the Brickhampton Golf Club staff for a most enjoyable meeting.

We began in January with a wonderful evening that was both informative and extremely entertaining talk about “The Great Train Robbery”, who would have thought information about how the train system works and the background of the investigation of such a historic event could hold us spellbound for so long. This was thanks to Mr I Boskett, with his portrayal and depth of knowledge conveyed with a number of humours moments. This was followed later in the month with our annual New Year Dinner held at Bowden Hall served by very pleasant staff. It was attended by the majority of members, who had a most enjoyable 3 course dinner proceeded by a successful raffle to continue to raise money for this years chosen charity. Meetings – Hucclecote Community Centre 7:30pm start (door open 7pm) 21st March – Woodchester Mansion, an unfurnished masterpiece by Dr Liz Davenport Events Bi-monthly - Luncheon Club - more to follow with new committee or further information please phone Linda 01452 617701 or pop along to a meeting. Larkhay WI At our February meeting our guest speaker was Brian Rutter a financial planner who talked to us regarding wills, power of attorneys and funerals and the consequences of not getting it right. It was certainly very interesting and got us thinking about our own. Coming up we have a friendly skittle evening at Wotton Hall, although it may turn out quite competitive as we have invited husbands and friends to join us. Each year Larkhay WI chooses a charity that we would like to support and this year our chosen charity is “Cotswold Riding for the Disabled”, who aim to provide a safe and friendly environment for people of all ages living with a disability. At our meeting in March, one of their representatives will be coming to talk to us about it, and then the following week we will be having a coffee morning in order to raise funds for them. If you would like to find out more about this charity then you are welcome to join us on Thursday 14th March. If you are interested in joining a relaxed, friendly group of ladies then come along and join us on the second Thursday of the month at Hucclecote Community Centre starting at 7.30, doors open 7pm.
