importance of it for our students ?
The Intel International Science and
Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), a program
of Society for Science & the Public (SSP),
is the world’s largest international
pre-college science competition in USA.
Approximately 1,700 high school students
from over 75 countries, regions, and territories
are awarded the opportunity to showcase
their independent research and compete
for approximately $4 million in prizes.
Today, millions of students worldwide
compete each year in local and school-
sponsored science fairs; the winners of these
events go on to participate in SSP-affiliated
regional and state fairs from which the best
win the opportunity to attend Intel ISEF.
Intel ISEF unites these top young scientific
minds, showcasing their talents on an
international stage, where doctoral level

it on time. Our magazine club members at the

al PROPHET
MUHAMMED
(SAV)
Nilufer Secondary School celebrated the birth of our Prophet
Muhammed (sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem)
As a teacher, an administrator and a leader,
our Prophet Muhammed (pbuh)’s example
is impeccable. He did not simply hand down
commands; he was the first to undertake action
in pursuit of a goal. For example, at the time of
the Battle of the Trench, he participated in digging
the pit alongside his companions. This week, our
friends from Charity group gave presents to the
students and teachers. Inside a small bag, there
were sweeties, and a small paper that had a
Hadith on it. It is a report describing the words,
actions, or habits of the Prophet Muhammad
(sav). Students also made a competition
about reciting Salawat (Allahumme salli ala
Muhammedin ve ala ali Muhammed). They
also distributed dates and lokums to everyone

Hadiths
We selected some short Hadiths for you. What is an Hadith? The Hadith is the record of the sayings of Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon Him)(Sallallahu Aleyhi ve sellem). The sayings and conduct of Prophet Muhammad
(swas) constitute the Sunnah. The Hadith has come to supplement the Holy Qur’an as a source of the Islamic
religious law. The Hadith is the second pillar after the Qur’an upon which every Muslim rests his faith. Hadith
consists of Mat’n and Isnad. Mat’n means the text of the Hadith, while Isnad means the chain of transmitters
to that Hadith.

MORAL STORIES
Through small stories, the idea is to illustrate the greatness of our human culture.
Through the stories one can learn the various aspects of our lives. We urge people to read

Sami Abdul Rahman Park the heart of the city is the ancient
Citadel of Arbil. The earliest historical
reference to the region dates to the
Ur III dynasty of Sumer, when king
Shulgi mentioned the city of Urbilum
– the ancient Sumero-Akkadian-
Assyro-Babylonian name of modern-
day Arbil. The city became an integral
part of Assyria from the 25th century
BC to the end of the 7th century BC.
Erbil remained a part of the Geo-
Political province of Assyria from the
beginning of the 6th century BC, and
was under the rule of many regional
powers in turn, including the Median
Empire, the Achaemenid Empire
(Achaemenid Assyria), Macedonian
Empire, Seleucid Empire, Parthian
Empire, Roman Empire and Sassanid
Empire. During the Parthian era to
early Sassanid era (C.150 BC - C.250
AD) Erbil became the capital of the
Neo-Assyrian state of Adiabene.
Following the Arab Muslim conquest
of Persia, the Arabs dissolved
Assyria (then known as Assuristan/
Athura) as a geo-political entity in
the mid-7th century AD, and during
medieval times the city came to

archaeological museum houses a large collection
of pre-Islamic artifacts, and is a center for
archaeological projects in the area. The city was
designated as Arab Tourism Capital 2014 by the
Arab Council of Tourism. In July 2014, Erbil Citadel
was inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Projects
Downtown Erbil Erbil at night
Downtown Erbil was a project for a large-scale
mixed-use complex in Erbil. The project would
have been coordinated by Emaar Properties,
the GCC’s largest real estate developer. Emaar
is well known for international big projects like
Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa. The project
was launched in 2013 and will cover an area of
541,000 square metres (5,823,276 square feet).
This area will be used for residential apartments,
hotels and a shopping mall. The project was
cancelled in 2014.

Aura Erbil is another new project with a high
standard of living, which is coordinated by

READING CONTEST
With the motto “WE LOVE READING”, our students finished the first and second
semester of reading contest and the read book pages were taken accordingly. You
can see the top students in reading competition of each grade in the pictures. As
known, we support our students to make reading as a part of their life. To achieve
this goal, we spared the first 15 minutes of each school days as a reading time. We
bellieve that reading habits can be gained in this way and hope that our students
keep reading during their life and make it fun.
From time to time people have wondered why
reading is important. There seems so many other
things to do with one’s time. Reading is important
for a variety of reasons. Reading is fundamental to
function in today’s society. There are many adults
who cannot read well enough to understand the
instructions on a medicine bottle. That is a scary
thought - especially for their children. Filling out
applications becomes impossible without help.
Reading road or warning signs is difficult. Even
following a map becomes a chore. Day-to-day
activities that many people take for granted become
a source of frustration, anger and fear.
Reading is one of the most important activities we do in As Nilufer Secondary School, we believe that reading
