3M™ Automotive Reconditioning Guide INSPECT AND PRE-CLEAN
INSPECT & PRE-CLEAN
1. Inspect the vehicle. Note any adhesive residue, tree sap, or bug spatters that will need to be specially treated. Use
an air blower to remove leaves from trunk jambs and engine cowlings. Check for loose or missing caps on power
steering, power brakes, oil filler, etc.; tighten or replace if necessary. Remove all trash from interior including trunk,
ashtray, and seat folds. Inspect the interior carpet and fabric upholstery for any stains or heavily soiled areas that will
require pre-spotting.
2. Pre-spot any stained or heavily soiled interior carpet or fabric upholstery surfaces using 3M™ All Purpose Cleaner
and Degreaser, diluted at 1:15 (1 part concentrate plus 15 parts water) and brush lightly. Pre-spotting and brushing
greatly enhances the effectiveness of the cleaner and reduces the time needed to remove the stains later in the process.

INSPECT AND PRE-CLEAN 3M™ Automotive Reconditioning Guide
INSPECT & PRE-CLEAN
3. Apply 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner to the wheels. Use the following steps to achieve maximum performance:
Step 1: Determine which concentration to use based on experience.
- Use a 1:2 dilution for lightly soiled wheels (1 part concentrate plus 2 parts water)
- Use 100% concentrate for heavily soiled wheels (undiluted).
Step 2: Spray 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner onto a DRY wheel. Pre-rinsing the wheel dilutes the product,
reducing its effectiveness.
DO NOT use 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner on glass, engines, anodized wheels and/or wheels with no
coating or with coating cracked or in poor condition. Glass that is stained by the 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel
Cleaner can not be repaired and will need to be replaced.
Note: 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner does not contain hydrofluoric or other strong acids.
4. Apply 3M™ All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser, diluted at 1:15 (1 part concentrate plus 15 parts water), to the
engine and engine compartment (lightly), tires, wheels, wheel wells, rocker panels, door and trunk jams, etc. Let
stand for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse or wipe down engine and engine compartment surfaces with towel.
Note: 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner works best on brake dust, while 3M™ All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser
works best on other soils. For best results, use both products on wheels.
5
HEAVY CLEANING
3M™ Automotive Reconditioning Guide
HEAVY CLEANING
1. Scrub tires, wheels, and other heavily soiled areas as necessary. A medium stiffness bristled brush works best on
tires and most wheels, however, for chrome wheels, a wash mitt or terry cloth towel often produces better results.
2. Thoroughly rinse all of the exterior areas where 3M™ Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner and/or 3M™ All Purpose Cleaner
and Degreaser have been applied. Rinse or wipe down engine and engine compartment last.
Do not spray or rinse water on sensitive electrical engine components.
Note: It is recommended that you start the engine when rinsing or spraying
the engine compartment with water.

3. Remove any adhesive residue from the vehicle’s exterior surfaces using 3M™ Adhesive Remover with a towel or
scrub pad. No longer available for sale in California. Suggested replacement: 3M™ General Purpose Adhesive
Cleaner (PN 08984 or PN 08987).

3M™ Automotive Reconditioning Guide EXTERIOR CLEANING
EXTERIOR CLEANING
1. Apply 3M™ All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser, diluted at 1:15 (1 part concentrate plus 15 parts water) onto
any bug spatters.
2. Wash the vehicle using 3M™ Car Wash Soap diluted at 1:100 (1 part concentrate plus 100 parts water) and a clean,
soft, sponge, towel, wash mitt or 3M™ Detail Cloth. Start at the top and work downward, scrubbing the areas with
bug spatters last.
Note: 3M™ Car Wash Soap cleans effectively at a 1 to 100 dilution ratio. Increasing the concentration will increase
the suds but will also be more difficult to rinse off.

3. Optional step (if needed or necessary): Clay the vehicle as needed with 3M™ Perfect-It™ III Cleaner Clay using the
diluted 3M™ Car Wash Soap as a lubricant. This step may also be done after the vehicle is dry using 3M™
Perfect-It™ Gloss Enhancer as a lubricant.
4. Rinse the entire vehicle thoroughly and dry using a chamois or a clean, soft, cotton terry cloth towel.
5. Optional step if needed or necessary: Remove any tree sap deposits on glass surfaces using 3M™ Glass Cleaner
undiluted and a terry cloth towel. Inspect vehicle after wash to identify any tree sap or similar deposits that were
not removed by washing.

DILUTION RATIOS
Product Dilution Ratios Explained
Mix water-based chemicals with water to make ready-to-use products.
Why
- Safer for workers
- Save money buying concentrates
- Ratios pre-set to match the job
- Better for the environment
Dilution examples
- 1:3 or one-to-three = 1 part concentrate + 3 parts water = 4 gallons of useable product
- 1:15 or one-to-fifteen = 1 part concentrate + 15 parts water = 16 gallons of useable product
Cost per gallon example
- 1:4 = 1 part concentrate ($5.00) + 4 parts water ($0.00) = $5.00 for 5 gallons or $1.00 per useable gallon

INSTALLATION & USE INSTRUCTIONS
(CONTINUED)
Installing the Diluter
1. Open the carton and check contents.
- The carton contains the diluter control console with attached concentrate supply tubes and dispenser tubes.
- Also, there is a small bag that contains one spare bottle cap, mounting screws, and wall anchors.
2. Remove the front cover from the control console.
- Press in on the tabs on both sides of the control console and simultaneously lift the front panel off.
3. Mark the location of 3 mounting screws on the wall.
- Position the back plate of the control console against the wall at the desired location. (You may use a level to make sure
the control console is straight, but this is not critical to operation.)
- Mark the location of the mounting screws with a pen or pencil. There are two keyholes at the top of the plate and a slot
hole near the bottom, left side.
CAUTION
Eye hazard.
Flying particles and dust.
Wear safety glasses with side shields when drilling or hammering.
4. Drill holes for screws.
- Use a 5/16” drill bit to make holes for the 3 wall anchors. You may need to use a masonry drill bit for some types of wall.
5. Insert wall anchors.
- Hammer the anchors flush to the wall.
6. Insert top two screws
- Screw in the top two screws, but leave the heads out about 1/4” from the wall.
- Do not install the third screw yet.
7. Secure the backplate to the wall
- Do not over tighten the screws.
- Place the console backplate on the wall. The keyholes at the top should fit over the two screw heads in the wall and slip
down into the keyhole notches.
- Install the bottom screw and then tighten all three screws.
8. Attach the water supply.
- Thread the end of a standard garden hose to the connector on the right side of the control console (as you face the unit).
- Note: The cap on the connector on the left side (as you face the unit) should normally remain in place.
IMPORTANT
Inspect to be sure the tubes are attached securely. The tube for
supplying glass cleaner concentrate to the diluter is a special tube and
must be used for the glass cleaner concentrate. Do not switch tubes.
9. Snap the front cover into place.
- Press in on the two side tabs while pushing the cover on until it snaps into place.
10. Arrange concentrate containers below diluter so hoses are neatly arranged.
- Each supply tube has a label on it to identify the concentrate product it supplies.
- Insert each concentrate supply tube into its correct concentrate container and fasten the lid.
23
IMPORTANT DILUTER USAGE
Make sure the supply tubes are inserted into their correct
concentrate product containers.
Using the Diluter
Dispense Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner:
- Place a correctly labeled detailing spray bottle onto the corresponding product tube coming out the bottom of the
diluter console.
- Press and hold correct button until bottle is filled.
Dispense Glass Cleaner or All Purpose Cleaner & Degreaser:
- Place a correctly labeled detailing spray bottle onto the corresponding product tube coming out the bottom of the
diluter console.
- Press and hold correct button until bottle is filled.
Dispense Car Wash Soap:
- The long tube on the right bottom of the console is for dispensing soap into a bucket on the floor.
Place the end of the tube in a bucket.
- Press and hold the right button, labeled Car Wash Soap, until you’ve dispensed the amount you want.
The chart above shows the dilution ratios of water to various 3M detailing products. The eductor, labeled at the top,
can be brown, grey, or yellow. The eductor is the part in the assembly that the hoses attach to. Find your educ-
tor color and look below it to find the product you are using. In the column below your product, you will
see various dilution ratios. Find your ratio and follow it left to determine which dilution tip color you
will use. Example: Brown eductor with a black dilution tip has a dilution ratio of 1:2 of 3M™
Heavy Duty Wheel Cleaner to water.
Depending on your hose fitting size you may have a snap tip or a threaded tip. If you
are using a threaded dilution tip, it is important that you screw hand tight plus a
1/4 turn. If you are using a snap dilution tip, fully insert it into the barbed
fitting (be sure not to squeeze the tip).

* Applies only to old model with selection switch (37711)
** In hard water areas, scale may form inside the discharge end of the eductor, as well as in other areas of the unit that are
exposed to water. This scale may be removed by soaking the eductor in a descaling solution (deliming solution). To
remove an eductor located in the cabinet, firmly grasp water valve and unthread eductor. Replace in same manner.
Alternatively, a scaled eductor can be cleaned (or kept from scaling) by drawing the descaling solution through the unit.
Operate the unit with the suction tube in the descaling solution. Operate the unit until solution is drawn consistently, then
flush the unit by drawing clear water through it for a minute. Replace concentrate container and put suction tube
into concentrate.
