North Little Rock is a beautiful place to live and visit. Enjoy the natural
beauty by walking, biking or running on the 17-mile Arkansas River Trail
which loops around North Little Rock and Little Rock and includes the Big
Dam Bridge, the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge, the Junction Bridge or
Two Rivers Bridge. The bridges are especially beautiful at night with color
lights reflecting off the flowing banks of the Arkansas River. Visit the Old
Mill in Lakewood which appears in the opening scenes of Gone with the
Wind. Spend time downtown in Argenta at an Arkansas Travelers baseball
game or dining out at one of the many restaurants or breweries. Immerse
yourself in the history of the USS Razorback submarine and the USS Hoga
tugboat, two naval vessels that bookend WWII. Hop on a trolley and cross
the river to Little Rock for hands-on exhibits and classes for all ages at the
Arkansas Arts Center and Museum of Discovery. Be sure to make a stop
at the Arkansas State Capitol that was built as a replica of the White House.

North Little Rock’s original name, Argenta, acknowledged the importance of the silver mines located north of town.
North Little Rock’s history is noted as a focus for railroad and riverboat commerce.
Today, the city’s historic downtown has regained the name Argenta and welcomed numerous new businesses while
still preserving historic buildings such as Argenta Drug, City Hall and The Baker House, one of the last remaining
Queen Anne-style homes in North Little Rock, which was purchased this year as an Airbnb and event venue.
Park Hill, the city’s first suburb, dates to the early 1920s and its oldest homes include architectural styles such
as Spanish, English Revival and Craftsman. The neighborhood is also home to The Edgemont House, a Spanish
Colonial Revival originally designed in 1927 and fully restored by Chris Olsen in 2016. In addition to being his
personal residence, Chris opens up his home and gardens for group tours and rentals.
Hidden in the center of the city you can find St. Joseph Center of Arkansas. The 56,000 sq ft. building sits on 63
acres of land that has been farmed for more than a century. A former orphanage, the space is now used as an
event facility, as well as host to a weekly farm stand, community garden and Hunger Relief Garden where crops
are grown for donation.
In May 2019, the Arkansas River crested to a record height of 29.7 feet causing several attractions and businesses
in the surrounding area to temporarily close.

All areas of the city are active and hold regular, welcoming events for citizens, such as the Northern Lights
Festival and Cupcakes for Goodness Sake in Argenta, Between the Rocks Urban River Event at Rockwater
Marina and A Taste for Business at Simmons Bank Arena.

There is always somewhere for residents and businesses to volunteer and serve the community such as
supporting non-profit fundraisers such as Cupcakes for Goodness Sake and Brunchfest or encouraging local
businesses at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce Membership Event and ribbon cuttings.

The city’s public safety officers are constantly active in the community holding regular events such as the Law
Enforcement Torch Run and Coffee with a Cop, while staying involved with the business community at the
Chamber of Commerce’s monthly membership luncheons. Each year, officers are honored for their achievements
in the city at the annual North Little Rock Public Safety Awards.

A KEY COMPONENT OF
THE CITY’S SUCCESS

Gold Star Families Memorial Ceremony

The armed services have contributed an esteemed and prosperous dynamic to the progression of the community
since its earliest days when U.S. Army personnel established Fort Roots more than a century ago. Today, thousands
of active and reserve troops are stationed in North Little Rock at Camp Robinson and Camp Pike, and thousands
more military retirees call North Little Rock home. Local businesses have the opportunity to support troops and
stay up to date on activities on base through the Camp Robinson/Camp Pike Community Council.
Robinson Maneuver Training Center (RMTC) in North Little Rock was founded in 1917 and is home to the
Headquarters of the Arkansas National Guard. RMTC consists of over 34,000 acres and 26 small arms ranges.
The post supports training for the Department of Defense and numerous federal, state and local law enforcement
agencies. RMTC is home to three premier training institutions; the 233rd Regional Training Institute, the National
Guard Marksmanship Training Center and the National Guard Professional Education Center, a premier training
and conference center.
Little Rock Air Force Base is a total force association of civilian and active duty, Guard and Reserve, instructors
and students. The 314th Airlift Wing from AETC and the 189th Airlift Wing Arkansas Air National Guard, provide
the foundation of combat airlift with initial training in the C-130J and C-130H models. The 19th Airlift Wing “Home
of Combat Airlift” and the Reservists in 913th Airlift Group provide combat-focused, battle ready operators to
combatant commanders. Lastly, the 29th Weapons Squadron from Air Combat Command produces graduate-
level instruction in weapons and tactics employment.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK IS HOME TO 34 CITY PARKS

Burns Park BMX Track
Burns Park covers more than 1,600 acres and is one of the largest municipal parks in the country, filled with a
myriad of opportunities, including an amusement park, a brand new dog park, numerous picnic areas, equestrian
trails and the newly constructed, fully inclusive One Heart Playground. The 17 miles of paved and unpaved hiking
and biking trails are an entrance to the popular Big Dam Bridge. Burns Park contains baseball and softball fields,
a state-of-the-art soccer complex with 17 soccer fields, 18-hole tournament golf course, disc golf courses and
a 27 court tennis complex with six indoor courts. North Little Rock is home to 33 other city parks, including the
Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum. Take in the beautiful gardens at The Old Mill, delight in the swings at Idlewild
Park or take advantage of the amenities at the North Little Rock Community Center.

One of the most exhilarating places to be in North Little Rock AR Times Rib Off

Spectator and participant sports are an important part of daily life in North Little Rock. North Little Rock High
School football and basketball games are heavily attended as well as Arkansas Travelers baseball games at
Dickey-Stephens ballpark. In 2019, North Little Rock residents were proud to have the high school football team
represent the city in State Tournaments.

Simmons Bank Arena is host to several major regional and national competitions throughout the year including
Arkansas Razorback basketball games and Professional Bull Rider competitions.

Central Arkansas is home to the Little Rock Marathon, the Big Dam Bridge 100, the Six Bridges Regatta and
the Little Rock Trojans. Enjoy playing a round of golf at Burns Park Championship golf course or attend one of
the Downtown Tip Off Club luncheons hosted by the North Little Rock Parks & Recreation Department during
basketball season and hear from coaches and former players from around the state. Competitive team sports
exist for adults and children throughout the city in various neighborhoods.

opportunity for all students in the city by bringing an advanced
level of technology, safety and innovative strategies to the
schools. At the start of the 2019 school year, the district
welcomed approximately 9000 students from preschool
through 12th grade. In August 2017, The North Little Rock
Center of Excellence, an exciting conversion charter school
opened. The programs and instruction are developed and
driven by local business and industry partners for the purpose
of strengthening the local work force and providing students
opportunities to develop a diverse skill set that will allow them
to be successful in whatever path they choose after high
school: workforce, college, or both. Students are supported
by the community through Partners in Education and EAST
Initiative, plus programs through The Chamber including
Arkansas Scholars and ALPS: Advancement, Leadership,
Personal Growth, Service.

with the U of A system enhances their ability to fulfill its mission to provide the highest quality university-transfer
curriculum, relevant, cutting-edge technical training for local business and industry, and to expand the economic
development of the state.
