Course Catalog Description: Supervised industry internship in cooperation with private or public sector employers. Provides students expanded, hands-on learning opportunities to apply knowledge and learn new skills directly related to their industrial electricity systems program of study, outside of the classroom environment. Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs): • Upon successful completion of IET-484A (With a grade C or higher) students should be able to follow an electrical diagram and connect a control station. • Upon successful completion of IET-4844A (With a grade C or higher) students should be able to perform work as directed with minimum supervision. • Upon successful completion of IET-484A (With a grade C or higher) students should be able to Run wire to a control station and wire the same. • Upon successful completion of IET-484A (With a grade C or higher) students should be able to follow directions in how properly to troubleshoot a control system. CONTENT (Scope and Description of Content): Content will be established upon agreement between the employer, the faculty member and the student. OBJECTIVES: 1. Acquire professional communication skills required in the IET field. 2. Acquire critical thinking skills required in the field of IET. 3. Acquire personal and career development skills that will place the student at a competitive advantage for employment. Attendance / Participation (on the job) Students are expected to attend 4 hours of instruction each term to be conducted during office hours. Regular updates on learning objectives, and progress should be maintained thought-out the term (email, phone, in person). The following assignments are representative. a) Reading- Supporting references, study guides, course handouts Students will read course materials regarding machinery prints, layout of equipment and the sequence of operation and prepare to discuss in class.
b) Writing - Notebook/journal, Paragraphs, Essays, Reports, Responses/Reactions Students will prepare a 5 page outline of their work experience project. c) Critical Thinking - Summarizes the problem/question/work assignment, Communicates effectively, Considers the influence of context and assumptions, Analyzes appropriate supporting data/evidence, Communicates own perspective or position, Identifies implications and consequences, Integrates others' perspectives and positions, Applies appropriate tools in problem-solving Students will prepare a presentation outlining various troubleshooting techniques for equipment they encountered during their internship.
