FINANCIAL AID SERVICES

FINANCIAL AID: Financial Aid is available for qualified students who complete a pr ogr am of at least
600 clock hours or more.

Federal Pell Grant - The main source of financial aid is the Federal Pell Grant. This grant does not require
repayment and is available to assist eligible students with tuition. Eligibility is based on the student’s prior
year income (and in some cases, the parent’s income), family size, and selected program of training.

Direct Subsidized Loan - Based on need and repayment normally begins six months after you leave school.
No interest is charged while the student is in school; however interest will begin as soon as student leaves
school. Maximum amount is $3,500 for both dependent and independent students. Amounts for less than 900
hour students are prorated based on the number of hours in the program.

Direct Unsubsidized Loan - Not need based and repayment normally begins six months after student leaves
school. Interest begins as soon a disbursement is drawn down but payments are not required until six months
after the student leaves the program.

Note: Applications are available online for the above funding at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Buckeye Hills Career
Center’s (Gallia-Jackson-Vinton JVSD) code number is 014701. Interest rates for both subsidized and
unsubsidized are determined at the end of each school year by the federal government.

Military Veteran’s Funding Options - Once the student has completed the VA application and has enrolled
in the program, the Financial Aid Office will certify the VA application.

Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation (BVR) - Financial assistance may be available from this local agency
for students with physical, mental or emotional disabilities that present a handicap to employment. Contact
your local or area Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation office.

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) - Financial assistance may be available from this
program for students who qualify. Contact your local county Job and Family Services Office for more infor-
mation.

APPLICATION STUDENT AID: Students ar e r esponsible for completing a Fr ee Application for Feder al
Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is processed by the U.S. Department of Education and the results are sent to
the student in a document known as a Student Aid Report (SAR). The school cannot determine an award without
a FAFSA. The process for completing the FAFSA is as follows:

 Go to www.fsaid.ed.gov and apply for an FSA ID. If you are a dependent student, a parent must also apply
for an ID. This ID will be used to access your FAFSA account in future years so be sure to create an ID that
you can remember.
 Complete a FAFSA on line. The web address is www.fafsa.ed.gov. The school code for BHCC (Gallia-
Jackson-Vinton JVSD) is 014071.
 If you provide an email address, the Department of Education will send your SAR by email within 3-5 days.
If you have not provided an email address it will arrive by mail with 3 weeks.
 Once the student receives the SAR, contact the Financial Aid Department to determine the award amount. If
there are issues with the FAFSA, the student must resolve those issues before any award amount can be deter-
