Welcome New Readers

Welcome and greetings to new readers of

ence and hope you enjoy our company in the
days ahead.

And we are happy that some of our long stand-
ing and regular clubs, organisations and groups
are starting to operate again.

We are always available and ready to promote
your activities in TWT Territory and welcome

Sheelagh Good celebrates her 104th Birthday in Hunters Hill

Sheelagh Good celebrated her 104 th birthday at Twi-
light’s Hunters Hill Village on Friday with family and
friends Huntrs Hill Mayor Clr Ross Williams and Clr Eliza-
beth Krassoi.

Sheelagh was born into the O’Sullivan family on March
12 in 1917 and was the third youngest of 11 children.

She grew up in Stanmore and Newtown and her child-
hood was based around St Joseph’s Catholic parish in
Newtown.

“The Catholic Faith plays a big role in Sheelagh’s life,”
the team at Twilight said.

“She used to walk up the hill to attend daily mass at St
Francis Xaviers at Ashbury and was a Reader in the church
and for many years.’’

In July 2019, Sheelagh was awarded the Dempsey Medal
at St Mary’s Cathedral for her outstanding contribution to
her church and the community.

“After going to secretarial college, Sheelagh com-
menced work as a legal secretary for law firm, Murphy and
Maloney where she enjoyed her work there and became a
registration clerk.’’

In her twenties, Sheelagh joined the Genesian Theatre
and adopted the Irish spelling of her name, Sheila.

Her captivating Irish beauty also caught the eye of many
young men.

One of these men was Tom Good who invited Sheelagh
to go out with him.

“He had seen her at Mass and at the theatre,’’ the team
said.

“They married in 1951 and Tom and his father ran a bar in
Newtown, and they lived above it.”

Their children are Maria, Julie and Paul.
The family bought a house in Croydon Park which re-
mained Sheelagh’s home until she was 102.
Her story would not be complete without mentioning
Sheelagh’s granddaughter, Laura.
“When Laura was little, they used to visit Gore Hill cem-
etery and visit a place Sheelagh called Hansel and Gretel’s
house to see if Hansel and Gretal were home,’’ the team at
Twilight said.
Today Sheelagh is regarded as one of Hunters Hill’s living
treasures.
“It is a great honour to be here today and we look forward
to celebrating her 110th birthday,” Mayor Ross Williams
said. TWT on-the-spot PHOTO
