It’s called marriage! Keep Smiling! - JOHN F BOOTH AM Lord Mayoral Election The City of Parramatta Council is inviting ratepayers to Have A Say on options for electing the Lord Mayor. Residents will receive a letter this month as part of the Participate Parramatta election project with survey details. The two options for electing a Lord Mayor are councillors elect the Lord Mayor for a two-year term or ratepayers elect the Lord Mayor by popular vote at the local government election. Under the first option, the Lord Mayor can then be re-elected or another councillor elected to the position. The second option will see the Lord Mayor elected for a four year term. “To change the way the Lord Mayor is elected, a constitutional Referendum is required and this survey will help inform further decision-making,” a Council spokesperson said. Feedback closes at 5pm on Monday May 15. New MP Donna Davis celebrates Parramatta becoming Monopolised! The Lord Mayor shared the stage with Mr Monopoly at CommBank Stadium for the highly anticipated launch of the Parramatta MONOPOLY board. Locals and visitors can now celebrate the diverse and multicultural scene the city has to offer all while playing the world’s most popular board game. Over the last few months, thousands of locals from Parramatta have been carefully selecting the best locations to feature on the board. After much deliberation and anticipation, the final custom themed squares have been announced. “Parramatta is such a buzzing city full of multicultural art and food and is loved for its rich history,” said Dale Hacket of Winning Moves – the makers of custom Monopoly Boards. “We are excited to launch this new edition and celebrate the area and everything it offers locals and visitors in Sydney.” Lord Mayor Davis said she was always passionate about putting Parramatta on the map. “Now we have our own board game, celebrating our heritage and the places and attractions that make our City unique,” the Lord Mayor, who will soon officially be the Member for Parramatta, said. “It’s exciting that our City stars in its own new edition of Monopoly Parramatta. “Roll the dice and visit Parramatta’s favourite landmarks from PHIVE to Elizabeth Farm, the much-loved Riverside Theatres and soon-to-be opened Parramatta Aquatic Centre.” She said Monopoly Parramatta showcased all there was to love about Sydney’s second largest city and proved Parramatta was a world-class destination. The MONOPOLY game first hit shelves in 1935 – since then it has been played by more than 1 billion people. Today, the game is adored all around the world, being played in 114 countries and enjoyed in over 47 different languages. The new MONOPOLY: Parramatta Edition is available at selected retailers. 4 THE WEEKLY TIMES Wednesday 5 April, 2023 Hunters Hill Guest Column To The POINT Despite sustained community opposition, Hunter’s Hill Council has voted to proceed with its grandiose $4.75m development plans for Figtree Park, near the Hunters Hill Village. This quiet little green space has been treasured by residents and ratepayers for more than 70 years. Now, the lawn is to be chopped up with pathways, vegetation less than four metres high can be removed, there will be a large toilet block on the Ryde Road boundary, multiple light poles, a play area and an “entry plaza” the size of a quarter-acre block. Because the park is Crown Land the law in NSW allows Council to build whatever it likes there as “consent development”. Consequently, none of the proposed buildings or infrastructure additions needs to be approved as part of the normal Development Application process. But the trees are another matter. Any removal of significant vegetation must be approved via a DA assessed in the normal way by the Local Planning Panel. Council initially applied to remove 37 trees. After strong community objection it reduced its application to the destruction of 21 trees. * * * In December the Local Planning Panel refused that application on the basis that it was “not in the public interest”. Council then requested a review. But at a second hearing, held on March 17, the LPP again refused the Council’s application. The reasons for that decision are clearly outlined in the Panel’s determination. They detail four main grounds to refuse the Council application: Firstly, it was not in the public interest. Secondly, the Council’s development proposal did not take into account the strategic relationship with the commercial zoning of land along Gladesville Road. Thirdly, the proposal was contrary to Council’s own Plan of Management for the park. And finally, there was no assessment of the heritage significance of the park. The Mayor of Hunter’s Hill, Zac Miles, addressed that LPP meeting and was present to hear each of the panel members summarise their unanimous reasons for the refusal of Council’s application. So it was reasonable to assume that Council would now accept the ‘umpires decision’ of their own Planning Panel? Instead, there was no public circulation of the Panel’s finding. In fact, without the TWT news report on March 22 the community would have remained in ignorance. At the next Council meeting – a full ten days after the LPP decision – the Mayor lead a majority who voted to proceed with a slightly revised design for the development scheme. Then, just one day after that Council meeting, the Acting Director of Town Planning released the Notice of Determination that confirmed the Panel’s refusal of Council’s DA. It is difficult to avoid the suspicion that the gate was deliberately left open until the horse had well and truly bolted. This is an extraordinary sequence of events. In my view it shows that under the current administration due process now counts for little in Hunter’s Hill. David Salter has been a resident of Hunter’s Hill for 50 years. The big issue at a little park It can sometimes be difficult to maintain faith in our processes of local government. by David Salter These spaces are a critical feature of our close knit community, contributing to Hunters Hill’s unique character and sense of belonging. Council is committed to preserving our natural environment and ensuring our parks are functional, fit for purpose and suit the needs of everyone in Hunters Hill - both now and into the future. Figtree Park is one of these important spaces. It is a beautifully-portioned public space at the heart of our local government area and acts as an impressive ‘bookend’ to the Hunters Hill Village; allowing local businesses and essential services like Meals on Wheels and Sydney Community Services to have an accessible green space on their doorstep. Figtree Park is, rightly, well-loved by our residents - including myself, a 27-year neighbour of the park. So, it gives me great pleasure to share with the community that plans for the revitalisation of Figtree Park have progressed through Council and we are now set to deliver this exciting project. Figtree Park is going to benefit from increased public open space and better accessibility, the installation of an inclusive playspace, an amenity block, substantial improvements to drainage, better pathways and lighting throughout the park. All of these improvements have been carefully considered to enable everyone in the community to get the most out of this treasured space. This important project aims to add crucial facilities to the Park - connecting our village to this important public amenity and promoting its use for reflection, recreation and active living. HUNTER’S HILL HAPPENINGS with Mayor Zac Miles We look forward to delivering this beautiful space and revitalising Figtree Park; delivering a wonderful outcome for users old and new, and importantly providing visitors a safe and enjoyable experience in the park at the heart of Hunters Hill. Save the date We’re pleased to announce ‘save the dates’ for several of our popular annual events. Moocooboola Festival will return to Boronia Park in 2023 to be held on Sunday 6 August. We’re expecting plenty of activities for the festival, with a wide range of food and entertainment options including live music, rides, games, stalls, displays, food trucks and workshops. Also returning for 2023, is the ever-popular Hunters Hill Art exhibition, set to run at Town Hall from 13 October to 22 October, as well as our Young in Art exhibition of works by local school students, scheduled forThursday 9 November until Sunday 12 November at Town Hall. Save these dates and keep an eye on our website for all the details to come: www.huntershill.nsw.gov.au/events. Clr Zac Miles Mayor of Hunter’s Hill Hunters Hill is incredibly fortunate to have so many wonderful parks, reserves and playgrounds available for our community to enjoy; with passive recreation spaces for reflection and relaxation, and other spaces for sports and connection. Revitalising Figtree Park Dear Sir, The idiots in Canberra just announced that an additional 650,00 migrants will arrive in our country in the coming two years. This is on top of the 250,000 that have already arrived in the last year. That is nearly a million migrants in just over two years. When is this madness going to stop. Why are politicians only listening to developers, big business types, and retail industry multi millionaires who just look at increasing their wealth at our expense. The issues with a lack of infrustructure, lack of housing and rental stress faced by many Australians are well documented. Pensioners and others are facing lengthy delays in having urgently needed surgery (sometimes up to 3-4 years) as hospitals cannot cope with the demand. Schools are full of demountables taking away valuable playing space from our children. The already stressed environment will suffer immensely as developers knock down and clear more land for development. You have cases where the homeless are increasing at a rapid rate. More disturbing are the ever growing numbers of homeless women many with children having to sleep in cars or tents. Look in the mirror you gutless politicians and think for a minute that that could be your mother or sister. Some of our precious mums who should be held in esteem and revered are instead living a life of fear and misery. And yet you pampered, overpaid, under-perfoming lot in Canberra are determined more than ever to bring in millions more migrants to add to the misery. Our rotten governments are also beholden to the powerful voting blocks of certain ethnic groups namely the LETTERS to the Editor TWT welcomes letters from our readers. You can submit yours at: weeklytimes.com.au/letters Full name, address and telephone number MUST be supplied for letters sent by mail, even if not for publication. Send to: TWT PO Box 123, Ryde NSW 1680 Immigration madness Asian and Indian communities and that is the main reason in my opinion that migrants from those continents have and will continue to flood our country in enormous numbers. I am convinced that all this will only add to what I see as today’s reality in our country, different nationalities living, dining and mixing in their own ethnic enclaves. Shame on our our politicians for allowing and at times enabling this to happen to our great country and shame on us for voting them in. TONY IKONOMOU Hunters Hill Looking forward to better deal for state’s road users Dear Sir, Looking forward to a better and fairer way to treat motorists by the new State Government. Fining people for going 32kph in a 30kph zone near Liverpool Hospital, next to another 40kph zone, the confusion and backflip over mobile speed camera zones, dodgy double demerits weekend announcements like when Queen Elizabeth II passed away and ever increasing road tolls were all hallmarks of the previous Liberal National party. Thank goodness, John Graham (New Transport Minister) from the ALP has already confirmed that double demerits will no longer follow you around like a heavy weight around your financial wellbeing for three years and four months, if you behave yourself for twelve months from your last motoring mistake. Cost of Living pressures are bad enough without a previous State Government intent on just revenue raising from every motorist just trying to navigate through Sydney, the most tolled city in the world. Woman killed in Beecroft crash Fifty five year old Cindy Kung was killed on her nightly walk with her friend Zhen Liu (54) when they were struck a car around 8.30pm on Beecroft Road on Tuesday, March 21. Liu was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition. He was granted bail with strict conditions at Burwood Local Court. Police said the victims were close friends who went for a walk together. “They stopped at a set of lights at the corner of Beecroft road and Hannah Street in Beecroft,” police said. “As they were standing at the set of lights and waiting to cross, a white Toyota Hilux which was travelling along Beecroft road in a northerly direction continued to drive past the intersection running a red light, causing it to collide with a white Nissan Tiida which was turning left onto Beecroft road from Hannah Street.” Both drivers were uninjured and were taken to hospital for mandatory testing following the accident. Kung’s friend Helen Pan said everyone would remember her. “She was a lovely lady, so I’m missing her,” Pan said. Shopkeeper assaulted during Persian New Year celebrations A SHOPKEEPER was assaulted during the Persian New Year celebration in Top Ryde. Police allege the shopkeeper was assaulted at 6.58pm on Sunday, March 19 and the alleged attacker was arrested around 3.30pm on Saturday, March 25. “Persian New Year was being celebrated by the Persian community, particularly in the dense Persian population of Church Street, Ryde and Church Street is bustling with Persian/Iranian owned shops and outlets,’’ police said. “A male offender attacked a staff member at one of the shops with a broom stick, causing a large laceration to the top of his head, along with a fractured skull before witnesses intervened and separated the parties and the victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.” The victim attended Ryde Police Station and made a statement before detectives arrested the alleged offender who was charged with assault as well as having a personal violence order applied for and served on him. Drunk passenger charged A DRUNK passenger on a bus in Ryde has been charged with assaulting a police officer. Police alleged the assault was made around 7:15am on Sunday, March 26 when officers responded to an intoxicated person call from a bus driver who was unable to wake two passengers. Police found two intoxicated men asleep on the bus and when one male woke up, he is reported to have become aggressive which required Police to handcuff him. “While officers attempted to escort the male from the bus, he continued to act aggressively, using his body to push an officer onto a seat and once restrained on the footpath outside the bus and awaiting paramedics to attend, the male spat at an officer,” police said. He was charged with assaulting police. A woman has been killed and another is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash that involved a P-plater allegedly running a red light in Beecroft. POLICE NEWS A former Ryde General Manager becomes Parramatta’s new CEO Former City of Ryde General Manager Gail Connolly PSM was appointed as the City of Parramatta’s new CEO on Tuesday. City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis said Ms Connolly was selected by Council following an extensive national search. “We are confident Ms Connolly is the right person to lead the City of Parramatta through this unprecedented period of transformation and growth,” Lord Mayor Davis said. Ms Connolly was most recently General Manager of Georges River Council and General Manager at the City of Ryde. She said she was honoured to accept the job. “I look forward to working with the Lord Mayor, Councillors and staff in creating a dynamic organisation that continues to prosper and serve the diverse and vibrant community of Parramatta,” she said. Mr Lane achieved the wafer-thin lead on Saturday when a tranche of about 5,000 postal and declaration votes was counted. His lead of 232 votes on a two candidate preferred (TCP) basis is roughly equivalent to the lead Ms Howison had enjoyed up until last weekend. The Sydney Morning Herald, which flagged the seat as a ‘Labor Gain’ on election night was forced to update its prediction to ‘Too close to call’. With 87 per cent of the vote counted for Ryde, Mr Lane was on 50.2 per cent on a TCP basis with 23,570 votes, to Ms Howison’s 23,338 (49.8 per cent). On Saturday evening, Ms Howison reported on social media that she and her team had encountered a tough day of counting but stopped short of conceding. “It looks like the lead we gained on polling day has not been reflected in the prepoll and postal vote,” she wrote. “It’s not looking good for the Labor campaign but we’ll see how it goes early next week (this week) before we call it. “As I’ve said it has been a great privilege to be the Labor candidate and I’ve loved meeting so many wonderful Ryde residents. Thank you.” Privately, senior Labor sources told The Weekly Times there appeared to no longer be a path to victory for Labor in Ryde, with about 1,000 postal and absentee votes left to count. “I have been deeply humbled by the strong support our campaign received in this election, but it would be premature to accept that I am in the lead until all votes are counted,” Mr Lane told The Weekly Times on Tuesday afternoon. “I don’t believe candidates should offer a running commentary on what is ultimately the voters’ decision - I’ll let the votes speak for themselves once they’ve been fully counted.” Outgoing member for Ryde Victor Dominello said it was important for leaders to create an environment in which achievements could be built upon. “One of the great responsibilities leadership is to create an environment where even better leaders can flourish,” Mr Dominello told The Weekly Times. “Passing the baton on is so important. Watching Jordan overtake me and do even greater things for Ryde, will bring me great joy. “I have every confidence in the generation that will follow.” Meanwhile on Monday evening, the NSW Electoral Commission said vote counting was proceeding to schedule and according to the “published count timeline.” It said 445,000 postal votes had already been received and more were expected this week. “The Electoral Commissioner continues to remind voters that their completed postal votes must be received by 6pm, Thursday, 6 April to be included in the count,” the NSW Electoral Commission said. “The counting of the remaining tranche of postal votes (progressive count 3) is scheduled to commence at 8.30am, Saturday, 8 April.” It said Legislative Assembly (lower house) check counts at Election Managers’ offices for ordinary votes cast at voting centres, early votBy Anthony Stavrinos LIBERAL CANDIDATE for Ryde, Jordan Lane has overtaken Labor’s Lyndal Howison for the first time since the state election on March 25. ing centres and declared facilities were continuing this week. Also continuing this week were initial and check counts for upper and lower house postal votes (for progressive count 2); declaration votes cast at voting centres (for progressive count 1 and 2) will continue at the Centralised Declaration Vote Count Centre (CDVCC). The NSWEC also said it expected to commence counting of the last tranche of postal and declaration votes at 8.30am today (Wednesday, April 5) and that the projected number of votes to be included this last tranche of votes would be published on its website prior to the count commencing. No counting was scheduled for Good Friday and Easter Sunday. 8 THE WEEKLY TIMES Wednesday 5 April, 2023 God isn’t indifferent to human suffering By Father Greg Morgan, FMVD One is appalled by the senseless destruction and endless suffering we see in the faces of the many who have lost everything to wars and woes, conflicts and calamities, in an endless stream of human misery. It can sometimes seem like God is indifferent to the plight of large portions of humanity, seemingly helpless to end the strife they face, or escape the misery they find themselves in. But God isn’t indifferent to human suffering. Good Friday tells the incredible yet true story of Jesus, the Son of God, who willingly took our place and suffered innocently for our sake. It is there, on the Cross of Calvary, in that unlikely and horrific scenario, that the true value of our lives can be seen. So much so that St. Paul would exI find it quite unsettling that, in the news of late - newspapers, TV and the internet - we are beset by an almost endless stream of graphic images of people on the point of despair. ☐ Father Greg Morgan. Easter vision inspires C3 Church RYDE’s C3 Church is part of an international movement of churches that began in Northern Sydney in 1980. With more than 500 churches in 64 countries, the C3 Church attributes its 38 year growth to the Easter vision of founders Phil and Chris Pringle. “On Easter morning in 1980, Phil and Chris Pringle held a service at the Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club,” the Ryde C3 pastoral team said. “Its modern music and welcoming atmosphere drew people in and within four years, the church had grown to 400 members and developed partnerships with existing churches in the neighbourhood.” As it grew it changed its name to Christian City Church - now the C3 Church with a vision to plant 10 churches in 10 cities around the world. “What began as Christian Centre Northside, a humble gathering of 12 people on Sydney’s sunny Northern Beaches, has turned into C3 Church Global, an international movement spanning 38 years and 64 countries,” Ryde’s C3 Church said. “By the 1990s, God had done exceedingly beyond anything we could have imagined and now with over 500 churches in 64 countries, we are seeing God’s love and power stretch across the globe from Australia to Kazakhstan, from Sweden to Brazil.’’ The team said the church remains true to its original mission. “Our mission is to help people find Jesus and as we look to the future, we’re excited about all that God is doing and all that he will do,” it said. claim, dumbfounded: “He loved me and gave up his life ... for me!” (Galatians 2, 20) And it is then, on Easter Sunday, with the empty tomb, that hope is restored and confidence ‘resurrected’. It is also heartening to see that, even now, there are still people willing to place themselves in harms way as Jesus did, in exchange for the life and safety of others. One feels a sense of deep admiration for those who risk life and limb to counter violence with benevolence, and evil with good. People who go out of their way to defend the helpless, to rescue the wounded, and ferry the vulnerable to safety. Through them the audacity of Jesus’ words still ring true: “No one can have greater love than to lay down their life for their friends.” (John 15, 12) As Christians and Catholics we look to Jesus at this time of Easter, to help make sense out of the suffering and offer an ‘antidote’ to the evil evidently gripping our world. Even if we might find ourselves tempted to seek revenge, to ‘get even’ with those who may have betrayed our trust, we don’t have to go down that path. Jesus’ selfless love and willing self sacrifice for others can motivate us to do much better, to even ‘love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us’ (Mt 5, 43). And imitate Christ on the Cross, especially when neither remorse nor reparation is offered, repeating what He Himself said in his hour of need: “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”. (Lk 23, 24) I pray that the re-enactments of the Crucifixion this Good Friday, and the lead up of Holy Week, will be a unique opportunity for you to get to know Jesus, the Son of God, much better. Perhaps even experience for yourselves the power of His love, which rises above all malice to bring peace and forgiveness to our troubled world. With all of God’s blessings for a happy and holy Easter to you and your loved ones, Your brother in Christ’s love, Father Greg is the Parish Priest of Ryde Gladesville Catholic Parish EASTER GREETINGS

However this year it is back! Reverend Michael Armstrong from All Saints Anglican Church in Hunters Hill is a member of the walk’s organising committee and said the walk will be shortened and modified to take place in the grounds of the Marist father’s at Villa Maria Catholic Church in Mary Street, Hunters Hill. “We were very keen to re-establish this event which is so meaningful to the whole of the Christian community in Hunters Hill. However, we also realise that to do so, in a world that is so changed, we needed to modify the walk to enable more people to be able to participate, and also ensure everyone’s safety,” Reverend Armstrong said The walk follows the final days of Jesus from his final meal to his death and placing in the tomb. It includes actors from each of the churches, a narration of the story, singing and prayer for the wider world. Richard Korkor, a lay member of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Parish, and a key organiser of the walk, has previously played the role of Jesus. .“Every year I come away with a feeling of hope, despite the sadness of the day, because Jesus reveals how we, through him, can find new life,” he said. LAST year’s Gladesville-Hornsby soccer season saw a new sponsorship agreement in place between local business Lady Anne Funerals and West Ryde Rovers soccer. Karen Laing, Director of Lady Anne Funerals, is well known in the Ryde district for her commitment to the community through sponsorship, fundraising and networking activities. Based in West Ryde, Karen and her staff of compassionate and caring women provide professional and personal service and support to grateful families coping with the loss of a loved one. After Western United won earlier on Saturday, the Sky Blues needed the victory to ensure they became the first side to finish top in three straight seasons and they didn’t disappoint their fans. “I’m super proud, no one has done this, three premierships and I don’t think we get the credit for it.” Sydney FC is celebrating a third consecutive A-League Women’s Premiership with a 4-0 win against the Newcastle Jets at Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday. ☐ Sydney FC celebrate on Saturday. Seniors living the community will be proud of: RELC “Progress continues on our vision to develop a high quality, modern Seniors Living Community for the community and our members on the corner of Terry and Ryedale Roads, adjacent to the club,’’ the club said in a dispatch to members. “The Seniors Living Community is designed as a premium and affordable offering to meet the evolving needs of our members and the broader community while the design principles will allow residents to ‘age-in-place’ and provide facilities and services above the standard of the existing residential market in the area.” The Club’s vision has been supported with advice from the City of Ryde Council. “Recently, the club has worked with the Council on our development vision to ensure it meets the needs of the area and its people,” RELC said. “The Council formally advised that our Development Application is under review and, as we continue our engagement, we are hopeful for more good news about the development over the coming months.” The Club is also consulting with prospective tenants and the wider community. “Our interior designers are working hard to ensure a space that is respectful of the area’s heritage while still providing a modern offering,” it said. The Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club (RELC) says it will create housing for seniors that complements local heritage and will be a place the local community will be proud of. ☐ An artist impression of the Seniors Living Community development. Lord Mayor Donna tops TWT footy tipping table Parramatta Lord Mayor Donna Davis and the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club team have surged to take joint lead of the TWT Footy Tipping Competition. Donna - who was elected State MP for Parramatta - is last season’s Footy Tipping Comp champion alongside former Premier Dominic Perrottet and could be way ahead this year except for her loyalty to the Parramatta Eels, who languish at the bottom of the NRL table with just one win in five rounds. Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts and Hunter’s Hill Mayor Zac Miles are both within reach of Donna and Paul (see table below)and will hope for perfect results this weekend. None of our regular tipsters predicted the 32 all draw between the Sea Eagles and The Knights with most tipping Manly to grab a half point. Based on last year’s form, few tipsters would have predicted Brisbane and The Warriors to be leading the table or the Rabbitohs and the Cowboys to be 13th and 14th. Big Mac soars Slovakian forward Robert Mak was the hero for Steve Cori- ca’s side, grabbing an 89th-minute equaliser to ensure Sydney remain in the finals places in sixth spot. Sydney, who missed the finals last year, are still on shaky ground with just five points be- tween them and the bottom-placed Brisbane Roar. Mak grabbed a double at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, with Spanish left-back Diego Caballo also scoring for the Sky Blues. Lachie Wales and ConSydney FC survived a scare at the hands of Western United, rallying late to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against reigning u UTE A-League champions at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. coach Ante Juric said. “Only five or six losses in those years, that’s unheard of and it is tough because everyone wants to beat us.” The four nil scoreline didn’t reflect the competitive nature of the game as Sydney FC had to work hard on Saturday with Hawkesby’s 15th minute opener coming on a sodden pitch that slowed the ball and halted the Sky Blues ability to play behind the Jets defence. Newcastle goalkeeper Georgie Worth was in outstanding form and it was not until the she was substituted to give the retiring Clare Coelho a cameo in the 75th minute that the picture changed. Coelho fumbled a Hawkesby shot into the back of her net soon after coming on and Juric was finally able to breathe easily. “We were missing chances and I did think for a second that they were going to hurt us and we would cop something at the end,” he said. With victory wrapped up, the Sky Blues turned on the style with Vine scoring two goals in added time. nor Pain scored for the visitors, with Sydney FC midfielder also adding to their tally with an own goal. The defensive frailties exposed in the record 4-0 derby thrashing against the Wanderers a fortnight ago, were again on show as John Aloisi’s side made light work of Sydney’s brittle back four. Andrew Redmayne has kept just one clean sheet in his last six games, with goals from Lachlan Wales and Connor Pain twice putting United ahead in the first half. “If you look at the stats, we dominated,” Corica said. “The boys showed re- ally good fighting spirit to come back into the game and we should have won it. “We were sloppy with the goals we conceded and that was the dis- appointing part of the game.” On Friday, the Sky Blues travel south to take on in-form Adelaide United FC with the ac- tion at Coopers stadium kicking off at 5pm AEST. The Butcher takes out Hunters Hill title The photo shows Ray (centre) and Michael (right) being congratulated by Club President and marker, Glen Norris. In the game, Michael leapt to an early lead but on the fifth end Ray began to hit his straps and collected 14 shots on the ensuing five ends, surging to a 16/5 advantage. The Butcher doggedly clung to the lead and ultimately ran out to a 25/12 victory. Ray has become a dedicated bowler since taking up the sport 2 years ago and was a worthy winner. Great credit is also due to Michael, who is only in his first year of bowls and shows great promise of good things to come. The game was played with great sportsmanship and congratulations go to both player In only his second attempt, Ray (“The Butcher”) Price has won the 2023 Hunters Hill Bowling Club Minor Singles Championship final played on Sunday March 26, taking down Michael Lowry, another player new to the bowling trade, in impressive fashion.
