D-DAY for RYDE ANZAC Services

The Weekly Times presents a full
round-up of this year’s ANZAC DAY
Services in TWT Territory this year
after the drastically reduced ob-
servances last year by restrictions
imposed by the Covid-19 virus pan-
demic. SEE PAGE 10.

D-DAY for RYDE can mean many
things to many people of differing
views.
For some it means DEMOLITION DAY
when the original Ryde Civic Centre
built in the early 1960s will start to be
demolished to make way for another
better, more modern building with a hall
to accommodate 700 people although with
limited parking provisions.
For others it will mean DESTRUCTION DAY
when a local icon was destroyed by destructive
forces under false claims of building instability
which meant the Council vacated the building
to unnecessarily pay over $2 millions in rent
per year now costing ratepayers $20 millions
wasted revenue.
NEXT WEEK: The Weekly Times will
present a detailed report by The Weekly
Times Special Team of Investigative
Reporters (TWT STIR Team) with FACTS
and FIGURES on how this whole sad
drama started and who benefitted.

JB’s World ANZAC DAY this year
will be an improve-
ment on last year
although it seems
absurd veterans and
volunteers should be
forced to register to
pay their respects to
diggers and others who
paid the supreme sac-
rifice to enter ANZC
Day marches and ser-
vices. Time we told the
power hungry bureau-
crats to nick off.

Noble House hosts Eastwood Chamber of Commerce

Sandy Lu of Noble House Seafood Restaurant hosted Monday night’s April
meeting of Eastwood Chamber of Commerce.

VIP guests included Ryde Mayor Clr Jerome Laxale and Inspector Alison Curtis Duty Officer at
Eastwood Police Station. Also present was Club Eastwood President Ray Blunt and Vice Presi-
dent Geoff Coles.

JB’s World

What’s in a name?

The original Ryde Chamber of Com-
merce has had another name change under
the chairmanship of Snowden Parkes Real
Estate Managing Director Tony Abboud.

Ryde Chamber of Commerce took over
Macquarie Park Chamber of Commerce to
become Ryde Macquarie Park Chamber of
Commerce to be followed by joining with
Ryde Business Forum which subsequently
changed its name to Riverside Business Fo-
rum on the misguided assumption that Ryde
City Council would be amalgamated with
Hunters Hill Municipal Council and Lane
Cove Council.

The latest move is to confirm at a meeting
next Monday that the name should change
again to Macquarie Park Ryde Business
Chamber.

As they say: the more things change, the
more they stay the same.

Monday’s meeting is 5.45pm at Sydney
Sports Management Group, 3 Julius Avenue
North Ryde. See you there?

Youth Week runs from April 16 to April 24. It is
organised by young people, for young people,
in communities across NSW and Australia.

This Youth Week I congratulate the 33
young people from Hunters Hill High School
and Riverside Girls High School who last year
participated in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Inter-
national Award - a global youth development
program empowering young Australians to
explore their full potential.

Undeterred by the challenges of fires,
floods and the global pandemic; Participants
and their Award Leaders created innova-
tive ways to complete their Award Sections.
Sewing face masks for teachers and people
at risk, creating pen pal connections with
local nursing homes and hiking around the
beautiful Sydney Harbour were just some of
the ways that Participants demonstrated that
their Duke of Ed has brought them together
more than ever. I applaud our youth and think
you’ll agree, our future is in good hands.
