parents and supporters will meet
in John Miller Street Ryde at 11am
this Sunday to wish “Happy Birth-
day” to iconic Scout leader Norma
Notley.

Norma has been the inspiration-
al leader of 1st North Ryde Scout
Group for over seventy years and
has been responsible for keeping
the group going through lean times
and good.

The Group has had a healthy re-
surgence in recent days with a new
group of younger leaders coming
forward to ensure the future of the
North Ryde Scouts.

Norma’s family will take her out for
a birthday lunch at Woolwich.

Hunters Hill Citizen of the Year Award Winners

Hunter’s Hill Council has recognised the outstanding achievements of
individuals and groups in the local community through its 2021 Citizen
of the Year Awards. The awards were presented in a ceremony at Bed-
lam Bay in Gladesville and recognise in four separate categories, those
who have gone above and beyond for the community.

Year

PHILIPPA CLARK has been named as the 2021 Citizen Of The Year in Hunters Hill.
Philippa Clark will be forever remembered as the leader and hero of the battle to
clean up a contaminated site in Nelson Parade.
Philippa established the Nelson Parade Action Group (NPAG) together with other
residents affected by contamination on the former uranium smelter site in Nelson Pa-
rade, Hunters Hill.
She has led NPAG in its significant lobbying and negotiations with the NSW Govern-
ment to achieve a State commitment to clean up the site and remove any remaining
hazardous waste.

James Quinn is a National Match Official with Rugby Australia.
James has been recognised as a NSW Rugby Referee of the Year, as well
as earning selection and appointments to officiate grand finals, championships
and tournaments at the highest levels of men’s, women’s and schools’ rugby
competitions.
He commenced his refereeing in 2010 as a student at St Joseph’s College,
where he also now works as a Boarding Supervisor whilst completing post-
graduate studies.

tions. Rob Senior volunteers for a wide range
of community organisations throughout the
City of Ryde, while Cameron is a leading ad-
vocate for local young people.

City of Ryde Mayor, Clr Jerome Laxale, con-
gratulated the award recipients as well as all of
the nominees.

“The past 12 months have been extremely
challenging for everyone and each of the award
recipients and nominees have helped ensure that
we have overcome these challenges together as
a community. On behalf of everyone at the City
of Ryde, we say thank you for all of your efforts,”
Mayor Laxale said. 

The City of Ryde Citizen and Young Citizen of
the Year Awards are held under the auspices of
the Australia Day Council of NSW.

LAGUZZA WEDDING

Bishop Antoine-Charbel Tarabay presided over the
wedding at St Joseph’s Maronite Catholic Church,
Croydon of Sebastian and Michelle Laguzza on Decem-
ber 12, 2020.

Wedding reception was held at Conca Doro River-
wood and was a joyous affair enjoyed by all.

Sebastian has lived in Eastwood all his 26 years
and was born in Ryde Hospital as was his father Nick
Laguzza.

Sebastian went to St Kevin’s Primary School and
Marist College Eastwood. He is a teacher of High
School English and also is Youth Ministry Co-ordinator
and Assistant English Co-ordinator.

Michelle is formerly of Hurstville Grove and is a Pri-
mary School Teacher.

Sebastian and Michelle have taken up residence in
their home at Picnic Point close to both their jobs.

Max is celebrating 30 years in Eastwood this year and
celebrating 30 years wedding anniversary to Nick.

Isabella is a former TWT Granny Smith Festival Queen
in 2014.
