John Alexander presents Ryde Council $2.45 million
BENNELONG MP John Alexander
OAM presented a Federal Government
cheque for $2.45 million to the City of
Ryde on the weekend.

The money is to fund council works to help the Bennelong MP John Alexander OAM hopes a Federal Government grant of $2.45 million will be spent on road safety at Cox’s

and Community Infrastructure Program.

John Alexander said he hopes the $2.45 million
will be spent on bollards and other road safety
measures in response to a recent accident in
North Epping where a young mum was killed
when a car overshot a parking space - without
a safety bollard - and crashed into a cafe.

“I expect the Council to spend the additional
federal funding they’re receiving in an appropri-
ate manner, however, I have expressed a prefer-
ence for safety devices, such as bollards, at our
shopping precincts be looked at,» he said.

«Devices that would separate cars and con-
sumers going about their business at local
shopping precincts.»

Both the federal and state governments have
responded to the economic crisis caused by the
pandemic by encouraging councils to spend
money on infrastructure works, especially
those that create jobs.

“I’m delighted to inform residents that their
local council, The City of Ryde, will soon receive
more than this $2.45 million in federal funding,
designed to support them as they support us
through this pandemic,” he said.

“This includes $1,861,633 of brought forward
funding and $591,724 for the Local Roads and
Community Infrastructure Program.»

«Parramatta, Hornsby and other councils will
also be receiving financial support.»

Ryde Council passed an Urgency Motion last
week, moved by Cr Jordan Lane, which requires
the council to investigate federal funding oppor-
tunities to enhance safety at local commercial
zones.

“I was delighted to have received the support
of my fellow councillors in moving this motion,”
Clr Lane said.

« I thank John Alexander for his interest in lo-
cal matters and the delivery of this additional
funding for our council.”
