Advance in Architecture
and Engineering
There was a lot of advance in architecture and also engineering.
Humanist scholars of the renaissance were influenced by classical
ideas. Architects and builders studied Greek and Roman ruins.
During the renaissance wealthy families built their own private town
houses. They were called palazzi also know as palaces. They were
built around a private court . The courtyard might of contain art and
sculptures.
Public places were often influenced by humanist ideals. Architects
designed the public buildings. The built it and they were inspired by
the Roman techniques on building.
Engineering was helpful. Engineering machines helped out on
building. Buildings were easier because of the machines. The
advancements help out a lot.
Advances in Sculpture
Sculptors were influenced by ancient roman statues buried in the
ruins. They liked carving figures with real emotions. Florentines
artwork showed deep emotions. They wanted to symbolize
independence and individuality.
Donatello created the statue of david a young warrior in the bible. It is
a life size nude statue. It is the first in classical times. Donatello’s
work influenced another great artist. His name was Michelangelo.
Michelangelo created his own life sized statue of David.
Michelangelo’s David stands about 17 feet tall. David’s expression
shows concentration and tension. It became the prized possesion of
artist in Florence.
Giorgio Vasari was a follower of Michelangelo. Michelangelo was a
great influence to artist. He wrote “What a happy age we live in!”. It
had been given a light and vision by Michelangelo.
Advances in Paintings
Wealthy patrons made Renaissance,Florence a center of art. People
spend loads of money purchasing art. Medicis made opportunities for
talented artist. They liked people who posed in life-like ways. They
wanted to spread humanism around.
People wanted to include realistic backgrounds in paintings. By
making lines it would make paintings have depth. The larger and
object was the farther it would look in paintings so it created distance.
Careful shading would allow the painting to look 3rd-dimensional.
Scientist and Mathematics helped artist make other advances.
Masaccio used geometry to figure out how to divide paintings. Some
artist used anatomy. Their studies helped them on painting human
bodies more realistically.
In the Renaissance, new materials were an option
for painting. Their was oil paint. Oil paint was made by mixing
powdered pigments with linseed oils. The oil paint was able to show
texture in new different ways. The linseed oil was from a egg based
plant.
Advances in Science and Math
The Renaissance period had many advancements. Some were
science and mathematics. Science advancements was to perform
experiments, the study of blood circulation and designing the first
telescope to discover planets.
Science advanced in the Renaissance period. The text, says” Instead
of relying on old books and theories began to perform experiments.
They analyzed the results using mathematics and logic.” This is
significant because it helped prove scientists about their theories
instead of relying on a theory. Also to learn more from a species in
order to see how they work.
Here's another reason for advancements is how mathematics helped
in creating buildings. The text says,” He had also learned about the
mathematics involved in creating buildings. The dome he designed
and built for the cathedral took engineering genius.” This means that
it took math to get the right amount of feet or wood to create
something stable.
The final reason is that they built the first telescope to discover
planets in space and to study about them. They examined and how
each planet was different from the other. The text states,” He used his
telescope to discover sunspots and the moons of the planet Jupiter.
By emphasizing observation and experiment, Galileo and other
renaissance scientists paved the way for modern science.
