WRITING PROJECT 3 TOPIC

This project will be over the issue of excessive police force and unnecessary violence. I will be
using a photo of the Ferguson rallies to argue that police are overstepping their boundaries and
are becoming more and more violent. Therefore I am supporting the notion that police violence
has gotten out of hand and many acts and deaths following the events were unnecessary ones.

violent protest going on in Ferguson due to the death Michael Brown.

On August 9 2014, Michael Brown Jr. was shot twelve times by Officer Darren Wilson. The
death of the 18 year old did not just an example of excessive police force but also revealed
racism as a major problem still occurring especially towards Black Americans. There is
speculation as to what actually happened on the scene but ultimately the end result was the
unnecessary loss of life. What happened that day created a series of events that would fuel some
of the most violent riots of 2015 and raise the question; are police abusing their power?

Though there have been many deadly encounters in the past years it wasn’t until recently
that fatalities started racking up in bigger numbers with there being roughly about 1,186 people
killed by police just in 2015 and majority being a person of color (Petrohilos, 1). What is even
more surprising is that the US Government does not keep track of how many people are killed
yearly by police force. Not only is it fatal encounters going on but incidents such as cops abusing
their power in certain situations. With the incidents increasing there does not seem to be an end
to the discourse occurring in the US, and although the riots have died down, something seems to
have be pushed over the edge. Along with the sudden rise of racism and more and more stories
of injustice our country will likely not see an end to this tragic regression of the state of our
country.

It is very unlikely that we will see an end to this is any less than ten years. Our culture is
evolving to accommodate events going on in modern society. There have been several memes
that play the role of satire to get on a level where even the younger generation can relate to, To
say that this is not a to be a relative topic in the future is a white lie. The kind of cruelty shown
not just in the Ferguson case but also many other cases such as the incident where a 14 year old
was unjustly ripped out of her seat by a cop or the cop who put a man in a headlock and ended up
killing him and even video after video of cops beating surrendered victims will have a very hard

time dying if they even die that is. However whichever stand point someone decides to take is all
up to them.

In the Ferguson trial, much is unclear and many things people tend to leave out or try to
