WELCOME AGAIN A NEW SEASON Is it just me or has the off season seemed shorter this year? Yes, we are back here a couple of weeks earlier this month and once again, the changes here at Hookwood have transformed this brilliant facility. Jim Connor and his team are always changing things for the better and this year’s route certainly mixes up the old and the new. Whilst some of the old favourite sections are still used and new ones introduced, it is the order they are ridden in this year which has dramatically changed. For spectators, you are assured of non-stop action all day with ten of the twelve sections being situated in the woods on the Race Control side of the service road. At some stage during the day we suggest you take the short walk to Rosy’s Rocks (Section 7) as the fi nal step for the Trial GB class has “grown” and have a look at the muddier section eight at the same time. Most of you will know that I never predict a winner in any class, but I should welcome both Harry Hemingway (Trial125 World Champion) and Gael Chategno (Trial Electric World Champion) into our premier Trial GB Class. The Trial 2 class is likely to be very competitive and we should be aware that last year’s Trial 125 top three fi nishers, George Hemingway, Jamie Galloway and Alfi e Lampkin have moved straight into this category, choosing to miss out the intermediary Trial Expert class in their rapid rise in career performances. Unfortunately, at the time of writing our reigning Trial 2 Champion, Iwan Roberts has not entered, but the class winner can come from several riders. Older visitors here today will remember that Talon were Title Sponsors of the old format, BTC several years ago. I am delighted to welcome Talon back as our main Sponsor, whilst Wulfsport who have supported us since 2019, will still be a major part of the series and will also be directly supporting two riders throughout the year. I am pleased to say that George Sartin, the founder of Talon and more recently, an Ambassador for the company, will be on hand to present the winners’ Red Plates at the end of the day when we will have chance to talk to some of the riders on the Podium, at just after 4pm. We now have Jazz Hammond working with us on the Social Media aspect of the series, mainly with facebook and instagram so please keep an eye on her posts and share them if you can. Of course, we still have the dedicated Trial GB website, www.acutrialgb.co.uk where details of all eight rounds can be found. I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with this event and a special “thank you” to the Observers and Tablet Operators whose diligence is much appreciated. Welcome to the ACU TRIAL GB ROUND 1 – THE SURREY CUP at the Hookwood Trials Centre, Surrey, KT24 6EA – 9.30am start. This years Surrey Cup Trial celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Hookwood Trials Centre and over 30 years of organising UK National Trials. There are three laps of twelve sections to be ridden by the competitors within their allotted time allowance(displayed at the start) Registered assistants are only permitted in the ACU Trial GB and Trial 2 classes and only when invited to by the Observer. Stop permitted observing will be applied with the standard 0 points for a clean, 1 for a dab, 2 for two dabs, 3 for footing and 5 for a failure. A failure occurs if a rider moves backwards whilst footing. Section marking: Blue fl ags on the left and red fl ags on the right, with deviations for ACU Trial 2 and Expert/125. Colour of deviations will be posted at the start on fi nal instructions. SPECTATORS: Must not enter the sections or where signs display “NO SPECTATORS PERMITTED”. Any Instructions from offi cials must be complied with. When walking around Please keep to the designated paths/markings. Please take all LITTER home and keep any dogs on a short lead.
