Golf Day!

Last year, Tandridge Golf Club were
kind enough to host Orpheus’ first
ever Charity Golf Day. I am very
grateful to them for again opening
their doors and greens. I am also
very grateful to those golfers who
came to support us before and have
returned for another year. In addition
I would like to welcome those golfers
who are here today supporting
Orpheus for the first time.

Our vision at The Orpheus Centre has always been of an inclusive world where
students with a passion for the arts and a desire to live and work independently
can achieve their aspirations.

It is a place where we use the arts to empower students in developing
communication, social interaction and other independent skills.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very pleasant day of golf and
entertainment at this beautiful parkland course.

The Orpheus Centre is an independent
specialist college in Surrey, recognised as a
‘good’ provider by both Ofsted and the Care
Quality Commission.

We focus on developing independence skills
through performing and visual arts and make
dramatic improvements to young disabled
adults’ lives.

We believe that every young disabled
person should have the same opportunities
as their non-disabled peers and we offer
a personalised study programme focusing
on building independence, communication
and social interaction skills through the
arts, supported housing and a personal
care service. Our students are between the
ages of 18 and 25 and have learning and/or
physical disabilities. They stay at Orpheus for
up to three years. Everything at Orpheus is
focused on maximising lasting independence
for our students.

Manny’s Story

Manny attended specialist college the
Orpheus centre for three years and has
moved onto supported accommodation.

This is his story, in his own words:
“I think what has really helped me a
lot and has made me a better person
is how much I’ve matured as a man.
I used to run away a lot when I got
upset and I would also get cross with
people and my tutors, I wouldn’t talk
to anyone and used to find it very hard to listen to other people’s opinions. I
used to sit on the bench outside and stay out in the cold because I didn’t have
the confidence, and I was very shy. I didn’t feel that I fitted in very well, and
sometimes I wasn’t very good at being able to show when I got cross, and I
didn’t express it in a very good way.

Being at Orpheus really helped me to listen to other people’s opinions, even if
it was different from mine. It’s given me a lot of confidence and made me feel
that I have a voice. It’s changed how I feel about people and how I feel about
the world. It has made me into a better person. I am able to not be as cross all
the time and control how I manage my emotions. I also talk about how I feel
more, which is a lot better for me.

Orpheus helps people have a voice and
helps you to become a better person,
which then makes a better world. I feel
that before I came to Orpheus, my life
was falling apart, but now I feel that
I’ve made amazing progress.

The 15th Duke of Bedford welcomes you to play
a four ball on one of their championship courses

LOT 6

Seven night stay at The Boathouse in picturesque South Devon for up to four

Set in six acres in a sheltered valley this
ancient farmstead is now a small group of
charming cottages that hug the side of a
gentle slope which rambles down to the
attractive tidal creek of Goodshelter. The
Boathouse sits by the creek away from
the other cottages and provides pretty,
comfortable, well-furnished accommodation.

The Boathouse is beautifully appointed and

Two ball or foursome at the stunning West Sussex Golf Club

West Sussex golf course was designed by Guy
Campbell, Cecil Hutchison and Stafford Hotchkin.

Famous for Prince’s, Gleneagles and the original
Turnberry Ailsa courses, it has attracted royalty,
famous personalities from the world of cricket,

stage and international golfers because it is a
venue for major men’s tournaments (it is relatively
short in length at 6265 yards from the white tees)
but a standout for its quality of design and beauty.

You are invited to play a two ball or foursome and
challenge yourself on this incredible course.

LOT 8

A seven night stay for up to eight people in a private holiday home in Port
Grimaud, South of France

This very comfortable and well
located family home is situated
in the picturesque waterside city
on the French Cote d’Azur, close
to Saint Tropez. Port Grimaud
was the inspiration of architect
Francoise Spoerry and construction
of his vision started in 1966.

The house is situated in a quiet,
residential area, close to shops and restaurants. It consists of 4
bedrooms - 3 double (two with ensuite bathrooms) and 1 twin
bedded - and a large living space on the ground floor leading to
a pretty, south-facing fenced garden overlooking the waterfront.
There is a mooring in front of the house and a private pontoon.

The private beach for residents is a ten minute walk from the house. Secure private parking outside for
one car. Local attractions include the medieval village of Grimaud, Pampelonne beach (15 minutes drive
away) and many vineyards.
