Head of Year Mr Wren

Dear Year 11

9th July 2018 was the date I picked up the baton from Mr Lockhart at the
end of Year 8 and became your Head of Year - Mr Lockhart’s loss, was most
definitely Mr Wren’s gain. The message that was shared with you that day
was not just to aim to be the best year group in the school, but to be the best
year group EVER… and well done class of 2021, I think you did it!
In that time I have seen all of you grow, develop and turn into the most
charming, humorous and mature young adults we could have wished for!
Despite having to endure the most unusual disruption in the last 14 months
with COVID, social distancing and of course two school lockdowns, you have
come through these challenging times with flying colours.
As well as the 3 years I have been your Head of Year, I also have very fond
memories of you all in year 7 and 8. It seems like only yesterday that I met a
lot of you on your transition day in year 6 and you struck me then as a very
special year group. So when I was told in July 2018 that I would be taking you
on as my year group, I was of course over the moon.
Good luck in whatever pathway you follow year 11, I wish you all the best of
luck and please pop back, in the not so distant future to say hello.

Dear Year 11, Class of 2021

I cannot believe that we are finally at the end of your Warwickian journey. It
has been my absolute pleasure to be your Assistant Head of Year and to have
watched you grow and blossom into the wonderful young adults that you
now are.
Every single one of you have navigated and overcome your own challenges
over the last five years; something that you should be very proud of
(especially in the last 2 years!)
You will leave an enormous hole in my life next year and I will miss seeing you
each day. I know you will all go on to achieve whatever it is you set out to
achieve, because you all have always shown me how fiercely determined you
are! I have already been so impressed by how many of you have gone out and
got jobs for the Summer!
I wish you all the luck in the world for the future. Please, please stay in touch;
I would love to hear what you are all getting up to.

Dear Year 11s,
I feel like that weird uncle who keeps saying things like, “Wow you’ve grown
so much; last time I saw you, you were only THIS tall!” But here you are, all
grown up, ready to leave secondary school and take the next steps on your
path to adulthood. It’s been such a privilege to have spent time with you as
you’ve overcome all the challenges you’ve faced over the past five years –
disappointments, break-ups, friends leaving, lessons in a construction site, a
pandemic… (You’ve even survived my lame jokes!)
You’re an amazing bunch, every single one of you unique and strong and funny
in your own way. I hope you take all those lessons with you as you move on from
here, and I don’t just mean “y = mx + c” or “don’t-do-drugs” – but the lessons
about friendship, being kind, being punctual, using your time well and listening
to others. So go out there, be brave, and show the world the best you’ve got.
And next time I see you I’ll say, “Wow…”
