Why Do we D.I.y?

(The benefits)

Have you ever thought about the benefits of D.I.Y’s? Or maybe wanted
something, but didn’t want to pay the harsh price? Well, then D.I.Y’s are for you.
D.I.Y’s can help you with many different things such as school supplies, creative
jewelry, useful ideas for your own home, and even helpful ways to help you at

work!. Did you know that someone used suitcases to replace shelves? Crazy,
right? That is a useful and moneysaving hack. When someone makes a DIY they
are saving money and making their lives easier!

Also, D.I.Y’s are fast and easy. Instead of spending time to run to the store,
most D.I.Ys are made with everyday items that you most likely have. Instead of
turning on the car and driving to the store, all have to do is look around your
house. This way you are not wasting any supplies or resources. If you ever want to
make a D.I.Y on the spot, you can just look around your house and use supplies that
would be in the trash otherwise. For example, an old tic-tac container can turn
into a amazing sharpener.

As you can see, D.I.Y’s help in many ways. They are easy, fast and save lots
of money. D.I.Ys are also fun and awesome ways of being creative. There you have
it, the answer you have been waiting for….WHY DO WE D.I.Y? Are you going to
dare to D.I.Y now ?

Race to Reuse!

By: Marguerite Livezey

Everyone has a crafty side. Whether they show it every day or every year it’s still there.
It’s because everyone likes a good craft or DIY–it can be relaxing… and fun! Sadly, these crafts

take up so many valuable resources! Trees are cut down every day to
make things like paper and pencils. Thankfully, there is an easy solution
to all these problems… REUSE! Reusing materials can be fun,
environmentally friendly, and it can help save money! After all, we are
living on this planet as if we have another one to go to, but we don’t so
we have to save what we have.

First off, using these reused materials can be so fun! You get to
transform some boring old piece of trash into a new, exciting work of art!
For example, say you had a bunch of empty soda cans, well don’t throw
them away yet! Take those soda can tabs off and make a bracelet or small
bag out of them. You’ll feel so accomplished once you see what an
amazing thing you’ve turned those boring soda can tabs into! It’s as if
you’re making magic. Transforming something so bland into something
truly spectacular. Try it and you can have so much fun!

Second of all, doing this is very environmentally friendly! You can
save the world one small step at a time! Just bust out those scissors
and glue and start doing it in a fun and easy way! D.I.Y.’s can be so environmentally friendly.
They use recycled materials a give them a new and fun purpose. Dozens of resources are used up
every day to make the thing that we use and then through out right afterward, but we can easily
fix this problem by reusing these things to make fun and cool looking D.I.Y.’s!

Crazy Crayon Art Interview

Interview by Caroline Berman
With Kale Berman

Kale Berman loves home decor. She was looking for a gift for her friend, so she started looking
for ideas. Kale wanted something creative, and fun for the gift. While looking for an idea, she
panicked a little, thinking that she wouldn’t find anything. Finally, she came across this amazing

craft. Read below to see how Kale accomplished Crazy Crayon Art.

Q: How did you find Crazy Crayon Art?

A: I was looking for a craft online when I found Crazy Crayon Art on Pinterest.
Q: What do you need for this craft?
A: You need a canvas, crayons a hair dryer or lighter, and a hot glue gun.
Q: What is better to melt the crayons, a hair dryer or a lighter?
A: F or my project, a lighter was better because I needed the crayons to drip straight down. If I
wanted the melted crayons to flow out all over the canvas, I would have used a hair dryer. For
kids, I would recommend a hair dryer because it is safer.

BEST OF THE BEST

*This is all opinion based, so please do not take offense if your favorite isn’t on here- there’s only so much I can have

When it comes to DIY’s, tools are just as important as the steps and fun. However, there are a few
tools that are useful for almost everything–pressing, gluing, or pasting. If you don’t recognize a few of
these, I would suggest you add these to your shopping list. You can find them at your local craft store.

1. X-Acto™ Knife
This amazing blade is the king of all knives. It cuts with amazing precision(when used

correctly, of course) and has a nice, round handle that can also be used as a rolling pin for clay. The
brand also sells cutting boards, pencil sharpeners, and much more. They also sell other types that have
longer blades or duller blades but the one shown in the picture(in my opinion) is the most precise one.

2. Rulers
T hey might not look like much, but they are much more useful than you might think. Not only do
they give straight edges, but some rulers even come with binder holes so that you can slip them right
into your binder. They, like the previous knife, allow crafters to use meticulous precision. They also
make it so that your sides can be even and much more.

3 . Precision scissors
These are self-explanatory. They are scissors that are extremely sharp so that you can, again, have
amazing precision and some types of these have bigger handles, making it more comfortable to use. As
amazing as these are, you still need to be extremely careful because they are extremely sharp.

4. Hot Glue Gun
You’re probably sick of all those precision-type tools, so this isn’t a precision-type tool. It melts glue
sticks into spreadable liquid and the glue dries extremely quick. However, you should always be
extremely careful around heated things. If you don’t like hot things, you can also use E-6000™ glue,
although I personally prefer a glue gun.

5. Mod Podge
This stuff is amazing and easy to find. You can find a jar of it at almost every craft

store and it’s easy to fit into a backpack or purse. It works as gloss or glue, and it also
comes in matte if you don’t want a glossy finish.

Little Things

Is your flash-drive becoming a dull-drive? Your case might be cracking or the paint might be
chipping but don’t fret because I’ve got you covered. Flash-drives can have important things on the
inside, so why not give it a bit more recognition by giving it some glam on the outside? They’re
extremely handy and easy to carry around. However, these covers are perfect for them because they’re
easy and handy as well.

Even though we are in the 21st century, pencil and paper can still come quite handy. When it
comes to taking notes, there’s nothing easier to carry around than a pencil and a mini-notepad. I,
personally, would rather carry those around than a computer. However, pencils seem to disappear

everyday–and then appear in the most random of places! In a desk, on a table, or even under the bed! To
prevent pencil loss, try one or both of these simple pencil holders.

Back to school shopping can be very fun. But sometimes most of the
necessities are boring. Normal colored notebooks, boring pencil cases, and
much more. Have you ever wanted something that is a little more? Well,
designed paperclip bookmarks are the way to go. They give a little pizazz
to a normal school day.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED :

● Paper clips (preferably
color)

● Designed ribbon
● Glue (optional)
● Scissors

First, grab your materials. Take one paper clip and select a designed
ribbon. You may use more than one if you want.

Once you’ve chosen your color ribbon or designed ribbon, get your scissors
and cut to a size you want. It can be long and hang off your book, or short
and stick out a little bit. (Prefered size : 3 inches)

Lastly, tie your ribbon around the top of the paper clip. You may use your
glue to help it stay better, but it is not necessary. It should stay just as well.
If you have chosen to use more than one strings of ribbon, feel free to
weave them or create a braid to make it fancier!

Then, you are done! I hope you enjoy your fast, very easy, and creative
paper clip bookmarks!

Edible Acorns

By Caroline Berman

I’m probably not the only one who loves food… and crafts! This perfect DIY treat is
great for any fall activity, including Thanksgiving! Using simple ingredients, this recipe is so
easy. These acorns look beautiful and taste amazing. With only five steps, you can make this
wonderful craft. Read below to find out how to make these yummy DIYs.

Ingredients:
~A box of mini Nilla Wafers
~A bag of Chocolate Hershey Kisses
~1 oz of chocolate icing
~A bag of pretzels

Step 1: U nwrap all of the Hershey Kisses. Most of the time, you will need all of the Kisses in the bag. If it
isn’t many people, then only unwrap half or less of the Kisses.

Step 2: After you prepare all of the items (peeling the foil off the icing, opening the bag of mini Nilla
Wafers, opening the bag of pretzels), you take one Hershey Kiss and hold it by the pointed tip. Then, put
the flat part of the kiss into the chocolate icing. While the Hershey Kiss is in the icing twist the kiss around
until a good amount is on it. I recommend twisting it for three seconds. When you are done, take the Kiss
out of the icing, still holding it by the tip.

Step 3: Next, take one mini Nilla Wafer and place flat edge on part of the Hershey Kiss with icing. The
icing works like glue, so the Hershey Kiss and the Nilla Wafer will stick together.

Step 4: Then, take one pretzel and break it into tiny pieces. The pieces should be about ½ a centimeter
long. After you break the pretzel, you hold the pretzel by the top and dip the other end of the pretzel into
the icing. Swipe the pretzel through the icing so that only a little bit of icing is on the tip.

Step 5: Last, you are going to put the tip of the pretzel on the rounded part of the Nilla Wafer. As
previously stated, the icing works like glue so the pretzel will stick.

Repeat until you have enough acorns

This DIY is amazing and easy. It is great for Thanksgiving and other fall events
and not only does this craft look cool, but it also is very yummy. Acorns represent the
spirit of fall, and now you can spread the spirit! Have fun with this awesome DIY!

DIY Donut Purse

Accessories are fun, cute, and crafty! Speaking of crafty, this DIY Donut Purse definitely
is. It is very easy to make and absolutely adorable! To some people it’s a purse that’s impossible
to make and a total waste of time, but it’s really not that hard to make and doesn’t even take a lot
of time! I hope you enjoy making this fun DIY, so let’s go!

What you will need:
● Round purse
● Vinyl (variety pack)
● Transfer tape
● Vinyl spray adhesive
● Rubber cement
● Scissors (or a cutting machine like cricut)
● Masking/painters tape

Instructions:

1. Cut out a tan circle about 1” smaller than the size of your purse (on vinyl).
2. Cut out a frosting shape a bit smaller than the size of your tan circle, but with a wavy

edge (on vinyl).
3. Cut a small circle out of the center of each shape.
4. After you remove the excess vinyl from the frosting shape, use the extra vinyl as a stencil

for your adhesive. To do this, lay a sheet of transfer tape (according to package
directions) on top of the vinyl and transfer it to the tape.
5. Lay the transfer tape, centered, over the tan circle.
6. Spray the frostings and the traced tan circle with the vinyl spray adhesive according to
package instructions.
7. Glue the frosting in place, using the outlines as a guide, and then remove the stencil
leaving your frosted donut!
8. Cover the edges of your purse with tape and place the little circle you cut out of your
frosting shape in the middle of the purse. Spray with adhesive. Then spray the back of
your donut with adhesive.

9. Glue the donut to the purse. After glueing it, place the purse on a hard surface and firmly
smooth the vinyl over the purse with one hand inside of the purse and one hand on the
outside.

10. Cut out different size sprinkle shapes from various colors of vinyl. Brush rubber cement
on the sprinkle, as well as on the frosting where it will lay and stick. Repeat with as many
sprinkles as desired. Let everything set according to package instructions!
Voila! There you have your new DIY Donut purse. Enjoy!

Clay Snowman

How-to by Jane Atkinson

Everyone knows that the holidays are just around the corner and… oh no! I completely
forgot to get my loved ones gifts! That’s what I would’ve said just days ago, until I saw this
craft. This is a cute snow-girl craft to make for the people who you admire most.

Step 1: Purchase a pack of 4 oz white model magic clay, and a 4 oz orange pack at a store (I
recommend getting it at your local Michael’s) to make the body and nose of your snowgirl.
Step 2: Go outside and take pick up a few small twigs for her arms.
Step 3: G et a pack of small buttons for her eyes, or use any small buttons you have at your
house!
Step 4: Buy a tube of Aleene’s Glitter Snow to decorate your snow-girl’s body once you’re done
making her.
Step 5: Take a red piece of felt to make her a scarf.
Step 6: Open up your white clay pack and take out a small piece, medium and large one. Roll
these into three separate balls.
Step 7: Take two of your twigs and poke them into the two opposite sides of the medium ball.
Step 8:P lace the medium ball on top of the large one, and the small ball on top of the medium
one.
Step 9: Roll a little piece of orange clay into a cone shaped figure, and you can add ridges to it to
make it look like a carrot.
Step 10: Take two buttons, and place them where you think the eyes of your snowgirl should be.
Step 11: Place the orange clay cone a tiny bit below the buttons, or wherever you think her nose
should be.
Step 12: With a paint brush, delicately paint on some of Aleene’s
Glitter Snow to make your snowgirl look snowy. This will cover up
any mistakes (dents, holes, etc.) you may have made! Be sure not to
pick up or touch her within 24 hours of painting her.

Step 13: For the finishing touch, (after the snow has dried) cut out a medium sized piece of felt
that is long. Wrap the piece around your snow-girl’s neck and cut off the ends of the felt until
you get the scarf to be the size you want it to be.

Now you know how to make a snowgirl out of clay. You may make as many snow girls and
snowmen as you like. Thanks for reading!

Michael’s: You have a big book report due tomorrow, and you don’t even have supplies!
You search online, but everything comes in at least a day or two. You get stressed out. Then you
hear someone calling your name. “Julia, Julia.” You look to your shoulder and see a miniature
you shopping at some store you’ve never seen before. You have a cart stacked high with supplies
for your project. You reach out and try to grab the picture, but it disappears in thin air. Again you
hear your name, “Julia, Julia.” You see yourself shopping again. It disappears. Then, an angel
appears. “Michael’s. Go to Michael’s. It solves all of your art and supplies problems.” She
flutters her wings. You turn your head around to find a devil. He has a mean look on his face.
“Michael’s. Don’t go to Michael’s. It doesn’t solve all of your art and supplies problems,” he
pouts. Then the angel says while jumping, “C’mon, Derek.” A smile creeps up onto his face,
“I’m just kidding, there’s nothing wrong with Michael’s. In fact, it’s my favorite store!” He
vanishes. The angel takes your hand and then you pop into the store in your fantasy. It’s just as
good as you thought!!

As a baker, I sometimes prefer to get my cupcakes instead of spending lots of
time baking them. The perfect place for me to go to and eat my cupcakes is a
bakery called L ucky Cupcake. They have colorful, creative designs, and
absolutely scrumptious treats. The store is located in Peddler's Village at 2400
street Rd, New Hope, PA.18938. Their phone number is (267)-544-5912. I
hope to see you at the Lucky Cupcake in Peddler's Village.

Snowman Cupcakes

I know all of you have been looking for the ultimate winter treat... well here it is.
Snowman cupcakes! They’re easy, delicious, and plain amazing. The best part about them is that
they have so much chill! I hope you have an amazing time making this super cool dessert!
You’ll need the following ingredients:

● ¾ cup all purpose flour
● ½ cup Cocoa powder
● 1 teaspoon baking powder
● ¼ teaspoon salt
● 2 large eggs
● 1 cup granulated sugar
● ⅓ cup vegetable oil
● ½ cup milk
● 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
● 12 marshmallows (the amount of cupcakes you're making)
● Vanilla frosting (whatever color you want to use for your snowman)
● Black icing to make eyes/arms
● Funfetti or sugar pearls for buttons and decorating/optional/you could use whatever

Next, preheat your oven to 350o F and line a muffin pan with 12 cupcake liners. After that,
in a medium size bowl, whisk eggs, sugar, oil, and vanilla extract together. Once that is mixed
together, stir in the milk. Then, mix in the rest of the ingredients(flour, cocoa powder, baking
powder, and salt) in. Make sure not to over mix. The batter should be runny, so don’t worry.
Split the batter evenly into the liners and pop the tray in the oven for 18-20 minutes. You can tell
if they are done if you can stick a toothpick in a cupcake and have it come out clean.

Once the cupcakes are completely chilled, you can start decorating. I recommend frosting
the top of your cupcake with white vanilla icing to look like snow. After that, you can put a

marshmallow on top and draw a cute, super cool snowman face on the marshmallow. You can
also add little hands on the frosting and 3 buttons.
