The
changes
in matter

The ice
cubes are
melting.

The ice cream and the water
is freezing in the freezer.

The water is
boiling.

Boiling makes the water
evaporates to the air.

At an extreme temperature water vapor
turns to frost.

Dry ice effects used in tv shows.

Substance is a material
which has a definite

chemical composition
and distinct properties

Substance

Soluble Can be dissolve in water, and form a
solution, which is a homogenous mixture

that has a uniform appearance and
composition throughout. So we say there

was a physical change.

Insoluble

Substances that do not dissolve in water,
Nothing have changed in the structure. So

we say, No physical change.

Sands are insoluble substances, (no
physical change).

Tearing a piece of paper is considered a physical change as the size
and shape of the paper changed and no new substance is formed
Therefor this is irreversible physical change. We cant put the small
pieces back into a piece.

Cutting of hair is a physical change. The length of the
hair is reduced but no new substance is formed. But we
can not rejoin the cut hair, therefor this is a irreversible

physical change.

Breaking an egg is irreversible physical change,
because the shell was broken but no new
substance is formed .

Cutting a wood is a change in size and shape which
we can not rejoin to a piece, but no new substance is

formed , therefor we say it is an irreversible physical
change.

Peeling a fruit is changing its form and size but no new
substance is formed, however we can’t rejoin the peel to

the fruit meat, so therefor we say that peeling is a
physical irreversible change.

Baked the dough in the
oven, it absorbs the heat

from the oven and it
undergoes chemical
change, we can see the

dough rises.

Mixing ingredients such And slowly turns into
as flour , sugar, water , brown, produces an
butter , and yeast is a aroma which we can

chemical change. smell of the freshly
baked bread. Its
irreversible chemical

change.

Making a caramel out of sugar is a chemical change. When sugar is
heated, It breaks down into a new substance called caramel. When

overly heated the sugar will burn and turn into black solid, and so
much water vapor will be formed. Known as the new products.

Warm milk

Add vinegar to your It will produce a curd(
warm milk, the clumps of white

solid) and whey (liquid)

To a cup of vinegar

Add 1 tablespoon
of baking soda

It will produce bubbles that contain
carbon dioxide gas. The

temperature of the solution will
decrease. This is irreversible
chemical change

Burning is a chemical change, and this process formed
new substances such as steam ( carbon dioxide ) and
a charcoal. This process is also an irreversible chemical

change.

when the iron is expose to different temperature , water and
sunlight at a period of time , It develops a new substance

called rust, this is an example of irreversible chemical change.
