UC Berkeley Extension’s Certificate
Program in Accounting provides you with
a current, thorough understanding of
generally accepted accounting principles
(GAAP), current conventions, reporting
practices and regulatory requirements.
The certificate is ideal whether you are an
accounting professional seeking to enhance your
skills and marketability or a career changer wishing
to enter the accounting field.

The curriculum for the Certificate Program in
Accounting is approved and overseen by an
advisory board of business and education leaders
and the University of California, Berkeley, Haas
School of Business. Our instructors’ practical

Prerequisites for Admission

There are no prerequisites for the Certificate Program in Accounting, but
a bachelor’s degree is strongly recommended. We also recommend you
have a solid academic foundation in the basic areas of financial accounting
and managerial accounting. If you need a deeper background in these
areas, we recommend taking suggested foundation courses. See the

CPA and CMA Licensing

Many UC Berkeley Extension accounting courses count toward
the educational requirements to sit for the CPA Examination and
the CMA Examination. Courses may also fulfill continuing
education requirements for biennial license renewal.

Certificate Program in Accounting graduate

Curriculum Requirements

The curriculum comprises 8 required courses for a total of 24
semester units. Candidates must pay a nonrefundable certificate
registration fee.

All coursework must be completed within five years of
registering for the certificate. However, requirements may be
updated based on new developments in the field of study; we
recommend completing the curriculum in a timely fashion.

Completion Requirements

You must take all courses for a letter grade. To receive the
certificate, you must maintain an overall minimum 2.5 grade
point average (GPA), with a grade of C or better in each
course. A Certificate With Distinction will be awarded to those
who complete the certificate with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
