www.lafayetteclub.com A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT John Kieff er President [email protected] 2 Your Board of Governors has been very busy over winter, spending a lot of energy and time on our long range strategic planning process, in particular. On February 7th, we hosted an All-Member Meeting to give everyone an update on the current state of our clubhouse. I hope you’ve had a chance to listen to the recording if you were unable to attend in person or stream it live. You can fi nd the link to it once you log in to Lafayette’s website. Th is meeting was the fi rst in a series of All-Member Meetings we’ll be hosting. From the beginning we’ve taken a transparent and candid approach because, as we continue this important process, a key to its ultimate success is soliciting and hearing feedback from all our members. I look forward to future conversations with all of you on this important topic. To that end, the second All-Member Meeting will be announced at a later date. We encourage everyone to attend in person, if your schedule allows. Stay tuned for more details. Th is meeting will be focused on providing an overview of the potential alternatives the Long Range Strategic Planning (LRSP) Committee has been developing, as well as the fi nancial implications of each alternative. Th e Board is committed to properly funding future capital requirements which will ensure this Club continues to thrive. We hope each member will take advantage of these important informational opportunities– either in person, virtually, or through replayto keep informed and provide valuable feedback. I look forward to seeing everyone around the Club! Happy Spring! I hope, by the time this Inklings goes out, it will be starting to feel more spring-like than it has recently! We’re all excited for the coming season at Lafayette Club. Soon the golf course and courts will be open, the snowbirds will return, and the Club will be full of energy again. www.lafayetteclub.com 3 CLUB BUSINESS Gregg Malsbary General Manager/COO [email protected] Dear Lafayette Club Family, Th ank you to our membership and dedicated staff for the incredible support you’ve provided to me as I round the corner to begin my third full summer season at Lafayette Club. Our leadership team and front line staff worked seamlessly to keep our product off erings, value and service more consistent throughout last year. Now that 2023 is upon us, I am confi dent that we will continue to exceed expectations. Here are a few recent enhancements to your Lafayette Membership Experience: - Laura Vorce is Lafayette Club’s new Assistant General Manager. Laura jumped into action last November and has already made a tremendous impact by elevating our members experience, primarily in Food and Beverage. As Laura continues to settle in, you will begin to see her more active in other areas of the Club. - Max Olsen and his grounds crew have done an amazing job managing the wild winter weather while keeping our parking lots, sidewalks, entry ways, as well as platform courts, clear of snow & ice. We are looking forward to the Grounds Crew elevating the beauty and play of our lakeside golf course moving into the spring season. And, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention our Gardener, Mary Gardinier, and her love for our gardens. Mary has spent a majority of the off -season designing our fl oral landscape for this summer. - Th e Food and Beverage Team continues to focus on proper training. Th eir goal is to continue to elevate dining experiences by providing unsurpassed quality of food and service. Chef Shawn and his Culinary Team will be rolling out a new menu in late-April, bringing back summertime favorites cooked from our seasoned smoker, as well as exciting new appetizers and entrées that we have yet to experience. - For the boat enthusiasts of Lafayette, we purchased a new aluminum dock system which includes higher quality bumpers and solar-powered lights. It will be installed as soon as the weather permits. - To enhance golf operations, we installed a new 540’ long, ten-foot high, black chainlink fence that runs the length of the shoreline side of the driving range. Th e fencing should help mitigate golf balls from going through the fence while providing a much cleaner, aesthetically pleasing fence as compared to the previous one. - For the racquet sports players, we have enhanced platform tennis play. Both courts were resurfaced prior to the winter season. Mark Hill, our Director of Facilities, spent much of the fall adding additional heaters and mounting new aluminum skirting to them. Mark will continue to upgrade our platform tennis experience by rebuilding the decking and benches between the courts when the weather warms up. As we prepare for our busiest season of the year, please continue to provide staff with feedback and suggestions. Th is will help our team meet its goal of delivering the best products and services possible. We appreciate your continued membership and dedication to Lafayette Club. DON’T FORGET TO ON’T FORGET TO DOWNLOAD THE OWNLOAD THE LAFAYETTE CLUB APP. AFAYETTE CLUB APP. Th e app will help you navigate around Lafayette Club’s many wonderful amenities and activities easily and conveniently, right on your phone. Please fi nd step-bystep instructions on the website.
4 www.lafayetteclub.com MEMBERSHIP Nicole Smith Membership & Member Events Director [email protected] 952-471-6432 Th is is always my favorite time of year, when the Club buzzes with activity again as the course, courts and outdoor pool reopen and members are able to enjoy the outdoors on the patios aft er a very long winter. We have a fun-fi lled spring and summer coming up with many activities planned for our young members! Along with our newly expanded children’s golf program, we off er a fun and competitive swim team, excellent tennis lessons and, of course, a very active Kid’s Camp. Our camp this year will be the largest group we’ve hosted in my 16 years with the Club! Shannon Swanson, our Kids’ Camp Director, is returning this year and we have been busy hiring counselors and planning activities to ensure a great camp experience for all the kiddos. Th ere are also many new fun social events this season! Our Spring Fling event is this Friday featuring live music by DriveStation, who played for us last summer and were enjoyed by all. Some other events include a Luau, Beer Festival, Kids’ Canvas and Cookies, sunrise and sunset yoga, Grandparents’ Day Brunch, and more. Please visit the Club’s app and website, and stay connected on social media to make sure you don’t miss anything. With golf season starting soon, please remind your guests and caregivers to always use the sidewalks and areas marked for pedestrians instead of walking across golf hole #1 to access the clubhouse. Th is will help mitigate the chances of your loved ones getting injured by a golf ball. Also, to reduce the risk of damage to your vehicle, remember to stop at the sign and ensure there are no golfers hitting off the fi rst tee before proceeding away from the clubhouse. As the weather warms and our responsibilities lighten, remember that you can pack the most enjoyment into summer right here at your club. I hope to see you soon! Stay Connected

www.lafayetteclub.com 7 AQUATICS Jenna Nordstrom Aquatics Director [email protected] 952-471-6427 Summer is fast approaching and we are all excited for its arrival! We can picture it now: relaxing poolside, the smells of delicious food coming from the cabana, and children’s laughter fi lling the air. Our pool area has a lot to off er this summer: adults-only early morning lap swim, kids’ swim team, swim lessons, play and workout time, the steam room and whirlpool, and (soon) a brand new sauna, new foosball game, and bubble hockey game table! Th is is a great place to stay and play all summer long. Here are a few tips to help make your time here safe and enjoyable: If you enjoy quiet time in the pool, we suggest visiting before 8:30am or aft er 2:00pm. Evenings at the outdoor pool are generally quiet aft er 5:00pm, and it’s beautiful to see the sun setting over the lake. Th e sauna, steam room and whirlpool are for adults (ages 16 and older) only. If you are looking for lessons for young swimmers, we off er both private and group lessons. Group lessons are off ered 3 times a week for two weeks or on Saturday mornings. Private lessons are scheduled around your busy life. Swimming is a skill that is both fun and necessary here in Minnesota! Th e ideal time to begin lessons is around 18 months for a parent/child class and between 3 to 3 1/2 for a level one class or a private lesson. Don’t quit too soon and don’t expect skills to be the same if kids haven’t taken any lessons for a year or more. All children need refresher lessons to solidify and strengthen their swim skills. Our swim team is awesome and pretty intense; the swimmers learn a lot while having fun. To give your child the best experience possible, they should join the team aft er they have a solid understanding of the front crawl and the back stroke, and are able to perform them for about 25 yards. It’s hard for coaches to see kids join and then quit out of frustration because they haven’t learned the skills needed to perform well. Swim suit designs have changed! While the high cut and thong type are popular, these suits are considered inappropriate attire for our family-friendly club. Please let your nanny and teens know the dress code before coming to the pool to avoid any embarrassment. We are required to hand out a little card to those who may not be familiar with the dress code. Here is just one more piece of advice: Please watch your children. Yes, for safety, but also because they are cute and funny. Th ey are interesting little humans that crave your attention with fascinating stories to tell. Aft er 28 years here, I know how fast time goes so please, for their sake and your’s, watch those beautiful children! You will be glad for the memories made. We are looking forward to a wonderful season at the Lafayette pools! With golf season just around the corner (we promise), now is a good time to get back in the gym aft er a winter long layoff , if you haven’t been there lately! In additional to your regular workout routine, we invite you to come in for a valuable TPI Golf Evaluation and unlock your potential for the upcoming season. What does a TPI Golf Evaluation consist of? A TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) evaluation is administered by Lifestyle Management which consists of a series of individual fi tness tests that assess your baseline for Golf Fitness. Th ese tests will access your back, hips, shoulders, wrists, and other areas to identify limitations with your swing. Th e results from the evaluation will give you a fi tness handicap and, with this information, we will create a customized program to minimize your limitations so you can maximize your strength and power in your golf swing. You’ve likely heard the old adage “Swing your Swing” by Arnie Palmer. In golf, no swing is the same. Th ink of John Rahm who has a shorter back swing to accommodate for limited mobility, or Jordan Spieth’s bent left elbow in order to square the club face. Ultimately, completing a TPI screen will help you understand the most effi cient and eff ective way to improve your physicality for golf. Please see the online fi tness calendar or contact us today for more info at fi [email protected] and add yards and years to your game! 8

15 www.lafayetteclub.com DINING DISH Michael Manders Food & Beverage Director [email protected] Chef Shawn and Chef Keefe have been working hard to create a wonderful spring menu made up of a combination of creative lighter fare and Club classics. Look for items infused with ethnic fl avors, plant-based vegetarian options and, let’s not forget, a fi ne selection of meats fresh off the smoker. Keefe has also been working this off -season to connect with local farms and vendors to provide the Club with some of the freshest ingredients available. We plan to roll out the new menus the last week of April. ‘Th e Hut’ snack shack by the fi rst tee will be opening in early May. Look for an upgraded selection of grab-and-go items to include assorted beverages, snacks and sandwiches- even Chef Carlos’ famous chicken salad (see recipe below!). On Memorial Weekend, we’ll meet you poolside for the opening of the Cabana. As temperatures start to rise, we invite you to enjoy quality time in the outdoor pool while we take care of your food and beverage needs. Th is year the Cabana is scheduled to be open Tuesday-Sunday from 10:30am to 6:30pm. Be sure to keep an eye on the social/dining event calendars this summer, as we will be introducing amazing new member events. Summer fun never stops at the Club! Hope to see you soon.
