CAPITALS' RADIO-TV ANNOUNCERS AND SCHEDULE

The Capitals will be heard and seen on WTOP and WTOP-TV this season as theShared by @HockeyMagazines
Post-Newsweek stations and Washington's newest sports team begin a three year
agreement.

WTOP/Radio 15 will broadcast all 80 regular season games with Ron Weber
calling the play-by-play and Jack Doniger providing the color commentary.

Weber did the play-by-play of the Baltimore Clippers from 1970-72 and has
called the action of basketball (Bullets, '76ers) football (University of Pennsyl-
vania, Morgan State), golf, tennis, baseball, lacrosse, and soccer. In addition, he
covered the Mexico Olympics.

Weber has been the voice on the Mutual Network's Wide Weekend of Sports
for the past year. Prior to that he served as sports director of WCAU in
Philadelphia, WFBR in Baltimore, and WBOC, WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland.

Joining Weber in the radio booth is Jack Doniger, a news broadcaster with
WTOP since 1969 and a hockey buff since he saw his first game in the old
Madison Square Garden in 1938-New York Americans vs. Montreal Canadiens.

Doniger has been the anchor man of WTOP's coverage of the Washington
Redskins, the Baltimore Colts, local collegiate basketball.and the World Series.

WTOP-TV will carry 15 Capitals' road games with doing the play-by-play and
Warner Wolf analyzing the action.

Veteran hockey broadcaster Hal Kelly will call the play-by-play for the
television games. Kelly has done radio and television broadcasts of New York
Islander, Minnesota North Star, and St. Louis Blues games in the past. In addition,
he has done radio broadcasts of National Hockey League all-star games. His
brother, Dan, does radio-television broadcasting for St. Louis.

Warner Wolf has been with WTOP since 1965 and serves as sports director of
both radio and television. He was named the outstanding broadcaster in the
District of Columbia in 1973 and a recent poll found him to be the No. 1 sports
personality in the District.

A native of Washington, Wolf worked in Pikeville, Kentucky, Martinsburg,
West Virginia, and Silver Spring before coming to WTOP.

He does the Redskin Kickoff Show and has the highly rated Warner Wolf
Show on Monday nights during the football season.

ing, cross-checking, boarding, elbowing, delay of game. Team plays
shorth anded . Penalized player returns to ice if goal is scored against his
te am.

5 MINUTES :

be an attempt to injure. Player does not return to ice if goal is scored
against his team.

10 MINUTES :

opponent. Depending on severity of injury, a team plays shorthanded
for 5 or 10 minutes.

1974-75 RULE CHANGES

T IME-SAVING:
In an effort to shorten the time required to play a game, the following
rules changes have been made : (1) when a substitute goalkeeper enters
th e game, no warm-up is permitted, (2) if a delay occurs during line
changes, the referee may order the teams to take their positions
immediately or not allow the line change, (3) if repair is needed to a
goalkeeper' s equipment, he retires from the ice and a substitute is made
immediately, (4) a goalkeeper may not go to the bench to replace a
broken stick. A teammate must bring the new stick to him.

EQUIPMENT:
Goalkeepers' sticks are limited in size . Widened portion of shaft may be
no longer than 26 inches from heel and may be no wider than 3 and
one half inches.

M ISCONDUCT, MATCH AND MAJOR PENALTIES :
Th e first player who intervenes in a fight receives a game misconduct
penalty. Any player wearing tape or other protective material on his
hand who cuts or injures an opponent during an altercation, receives a
match penalty . Match penalties are also given for "head-butting" during
an altercation.
Spearing and butt-ending are upgraded to major penalties.

PENALTY SHOTS:
Penalty shots are awarded if a player is interfered with by a stick or
other object thrown by an opponent after he has crossed the center line
and has no opponent to beat but the goalkeeper. Penalty shots are still
awarded for tripping and/or grabbing in similar circumstances .

Requests for press box space , photographer's credentials, statistical
material, pictures, and feature material should be directed to:

Chip Campbell
Director of Press Relations

Washington Capitals
Capital Centre

Landover, Maryland 20786
301-350-3400

Press box space is limited , so early requests for credentials will be
appreciated. Persons holding NHL cards or hockey writers cards are
requested to give 24 hours notice when planning to cover a game.

The hockey press box in Capital Centre is located in Section 111,
while broadcast locations are in Sections 106, 107 and 108. All
locations are on the West side of the building as is the press parking area
and press entrance. Photo locations are available in the corner areas
near the fire exits and in the penalty box areas on certain occasions.

A press lounge and working area is located on the concourse level at
the rear of Section 108. It will be open before and after each game and
between periods. At least two telecopier services and Western Union
will be available at each game to transmit copy from the press room.
Individual arrangements should be made with these services. Private
access to the locker rooms is available via the press room. Food and
beverages will be available before each game in the press lounge.

The press room and lounge are an extension of the press box and , as
such, are a working area and open only to members of the media and
Capitals' staff.

Credential numbers do not apply to seat numbers in the press box.
Each seat will be labeled by publication or station.
