การแปลสุภาษติ คําพงั เพย และสาํ นวนตาง ๆ

สุภาษติ หรอื คาํ พังเพย คอื ขอความสัน้ ๆ ซ่งึ เป็นที่รูจ กั กนั ทวั่ ไป มคี วามหมาย
สมบรู ณในตัวเอง โดยมีวัตถปุ ระสงคเ พ่ือสอนหรือเตือนใจผอู านสภุ าษติ หรือคําพงั เพยใน
ภาษาใดก็ตามมกั สะทอนวฒั นธรรมของเจา ของภาษานัน้ โดยแสดงใหเ ห็นชวี ิตความเป็น
อยู ลกั ษณะนิสยั ความคดิ อา น ตลอดจนรสนิยมตา ง ๆ

สว นสาํ นวน คอื ลักษณะขอความทีม่ คี วามหมายแฝงอยู และเป็นปัญหาท่ียากกวา
การแปลคาํ ศัพทธรรมดา เพราะผแู ปลไมทราบวา ขอ ความนัน้ เป็นสํานวน จึงแปลออกมา
ตรง ๆ หรือถึงทราบวาเป็นสาํ นวนก็อาจไมเขา ใจความหมายหรือเขาใจแตไมอ าจแปลออก
มาใหผูอ า นที่เป็นคนไทยเขาใจได เชน

s He was soaking wet; he looked like a drowned rat.
มผี แู ปลวา : เขาเปียกราวกบั หนตู กน้ํา
ควรแปลวา: เขาเปียกปอนมองดูเหมือนลูกหมาตกน้ํา

การแปลโดยปรับความหมายใหเ ทยี บกับสาํ นวนไทยจะทําใหผูอานท่เี ป็นคนไทย
เขา ใจสาํ นวนนี้ไดดขี ้นึ

วธิ ีแปล
1. ในการแปลสภุ าษติ หรอื คาํ พงั เพย ถา สามารถเปรียบเทยี บความหมายโดยใช
สุภาษติ หรอื คาํ พงั เพยของไทยในความหมาย เดียวกนั ไดกใ็ หใ ชส ุภาษติ ไทย ถอื วา
เป็นการแปลแบบเทยี บเคยี ง ดังตวั อยา งทย่ี กมาแลว

2. ถาไมม ีความสามารถแปลเทียบเคียงได ก็ใหแปลออกมาตรง ๆ แลว อธบิ ายความหมาย
ของสุภาษติ นัน้ ไวใ นวงเล็บ

3. ในการแปลสาํ นวน ถาสงสัยวา เป็นสํานวนใหต รวจสอบกบั พจนานุกรมหรอื เจาของ
ภาษา ในการเปิดจากพจนานุกรมใหเปิดหาจากคาํ หลักของสาํ นวนนัน้ เชน to vanish
into thin air กใ็ หห าจากคาํ วา air นอกจากการหาความหมายทีถ่ กู ตอ งของสํานวนจาก
พจนานกุ รมหรือเจา ของภาษาแลว ควรพยายามแปลใหฟังดเู ป็นไทย ๆ ไมควรแปลตรง ๆ
ตามสาํ นวนเดมิ
