Notts Sport has worked with Central Park Conservancy for over eight years
to a point where our unique SurfacePlay impact absorbing safer surfacing
systems are installed at seven playgrounds in the world’s favourite park and
one of the most visited urban landscapes in North America.
The playgrounds which were installed as part of the conservancies, ‘Plan for
Play’ campaign, have been well received by the New York City residents.
James Lyle, a local parent commented, “The playgrounds at Central Park are
so important in such a dense, urban area. The children need these places to
run around safely, especially with homes having such little outdoor space in
New York.”

Central Park, New York City, NY, USA
In April 2016, the East 72nd Street play area was
voted by the public of New York City as the favourite
playground in Central Park.
Along with the award winning play area, the
SurfacePlay systems have been installed in the,
‘World’s busiest play space’ at East 110th Street
playground, illustrating its popularity and, just as
importantly, its durability and play value throughout
its life.
All areas of the park are currently managed by
the Central Park Conservancy under contract
with the municipal government in a public-private
partnership. The Conservancy is a non-profit
organisation that contributes 75 percent of Central
Park’s $65 million annual budget and is responsible
for all basic care of the 843-acre park.
With an eighth facility, the Billy Johnson
Playground, due for completion in Summer 2018
and more exciting developments planned for 2019,
SurfacePlay is fast becoming the premier choice of
playground surfacing for destination parks in New
York and throughout North America.

glasgow city council
Notts Sport’s unique ChildsPlay system, utilising ShockWave technology to provide
unparalleled safety performance, has been the preferred safer surfacing solution for
Glasgow City Council since the early 1990s.
In that time, working with Glasgow’s renowned Landscape Architects and in-house
teams since the early 90s, Notts Sport have completed hundreds of play areas, always
using bespoke designs and solutions. These projects range from new build schemes and
MUGAs, to resurfacing.
In 2016, the Lincoln Avenue community-funded playground was an inspirational project
that demonstrates how imagination can shape the future of play. This creative space in the
built-up residential location of inner-city Glasgow is a project that started life as a colourful
painting by a young competition winner at a local primary school.
With the launch of IntriCut, Notts Sport’s innovative in-house cutting service, creatively cut
play spaces like this are being installed up and down the country. IntriCut’s specialist CAD
technology enables the Notts Sport ChildsPlay team to work with clients to realise their
creative visions, creating dynamic patterns, elaborate shapes and illustrations that prevent
the need for other equipment or expensive structures.
Notts Sport’s Managing Director, Duncan Bennett, is excited to extend this service to
schools: ”We are excited to be in a position where we can give children the chance to
put their own unique ideas into their playground. We believe this stimulates creativity and
innovation on all sides of the project and ensures that there is the maximum amount of play
value incorporated into all aspects of a project - including the surfacing design.”
Through ongoing investment in innovative technology, Notts Sport continues to add value
to long established relationships such as the 26 year partnership with Glasgow City Councils.

PLUMCROFT PRIMARY SCHOOL
The visionary Head at Plumcroft wished to create a unique playground experience for the pupils,
using Fast Track Funding to ensure that no opportunity was missed during the design process.
The resulting playground is one of the most innovative play experiences you could wish to
explore, with a London Underground Tube Carriage incorporated into the playground, along
with outdoor gym equipment, sports markings and play value added into the surface design.
Spread across separate areas around the school, the variety in design, shape and application
reinforce the old adage that the only limit in surfacing design is one’s own imagination. The
vibrant, exciting and stimulating facilities are enjoyed by the entire School, come rain or shine.

“The ideas behind this playground were built up between my head of PE, myself, Notts Sports
and the installers Playcubed. I found all of them extremely helpful, professional and forward
looking in this process.
My vision was to make this school a place that anyone walking past would say ‘I want my child
to go to that school’ and after the changes made over this summer I feel confident that this is
undoubtedly the case.”
Richard Slade, Headteacher at Plumcroft Primary School.

THUNDER JUNCTION: ALL ABILITIES PARK
Thunder Junction All Abilities Park in St. George is a dream come true for children of all
abilities. It’s an inclusive 2.5 acre park where children can play side-by-side regardless of
their physical abilities.
Notts Sport were proud to help the City of St. George build this fantastic new $5m park with
funding raised from local residents.
Often, children with disabilities cannot play in a standard play area and don’t benefit from
the social, physical, and emotional benefits that play provides.
This remarkable dinosaur themed park offers wheelchair accessible, sensory-rich
equipment, double wide slides, ramps and soft floors that delight children both with and
without disabilities.
Local parents visiting with their family were very pleased with their experience: “We were
so impressed with Thunder Junction, and all the unique and fun features: everything from the
rides to the large family gathering areas. There are the typical slides and swings, dinosaurs
to climb on, but also fun and different things like a kid’s zip line. Most of the surfaces at the
park are cushioned, which is nice especially at the bottom of slides or areas where kids
may fall down.”
Notts Sport patented ChildsPlay systems (branded SurfacePlay in the United States) offer
unique opportunities for bespoke designs and surface interaction, maximising the value of
any playground scheme.

bryant park,
new yorK city
Bryant Park is a year-round New York City attraction visited by more than 12
million people each year and is one of the busiest public spaces in the world.
Known as Manhattan’s Town Square, the park is famous for its lush seasonal
gardens, al fresco dining and surrounds of iconic skyscrapers, overlooked by
the New York Public library.
The Notts Sport SurfacePlay impact absorbing surfacing system was specified
to be installed around the iconic Le Carrousel in Bryant Park in July 2017. The
100m2 olive green area was designed to blend into the leafy canopy of the
park’s trees, whilst providing a safe surround for children enjoying the ride.

Bede’s Preparatory School
Notts Sport were commissioned to design a multi use games area at the independent prep
school, to replace the existing grassed area that couldn’t be used due to drainage issues.
Utilising the bespoke Notts Sport design consultancy and project management services,
Bede’s chose to install a fully synthetic grassed area to support a wide range of activities
and sports.
The original muddy, undervalued and underused area at the school has been transformed
into a vital additional outdoor facility. Pupils can now play outdoors all year round in a
space that can be divided for different sports when needed.
This remarkable area overlooking the sea is unusual in its non-traditional design, which
promotes creative and imaginative play, with flexibility for use as a sports multi use games
area (MUGA).
Notts Sport are uniquely placed to understand and develop concepts for non-traditional
areas such as the Bede’s facility, maximising the entire outdoor estate at schools in the
process.

jump parkour leicester
At Notts Sport we pride ourselves on being innovative, and so making our playground
systems work for Parkour or Freerunning was a unique challenge that we were delighted to
put into practice at the Jump Parkour area at Bede Park in Leicester City Centre.
Working closely with our key strategic partners at Leicester City Council for over 5 years, we
were able to develop a bespoke design for the area using our unique ChildsPlay surfacing
system as the ideal solution to provide the maximum possible safety to the Parkour users.
Incorporating the same technology as our world leading ShockWave system for rugby
pitches, the ChildsPlay technology used for Parkour offers the ultimate combination of
performance and long term shock absorbency. Importantly it also avoids deformation and
softness which is an issue for many other impact absorbing systems for sport and play.
The ChildsPlay Recreation surface used in the gym area also provides a clean draining
system that means it is able to be used even during inclement weather.
Newly categorized as an official sport, and with more investment being put into approved
recreation areas like this, Parkour is set to grow throughout the UK, and we are proud to
have developed the best Parkour safer surfacing system in the world for this unique and
exciting sport.
