High school of Matter (HSOM) HSO M HSOM On a peaceful morning in HSOM, the principle is walking around the school to see their student in class In class G Hello, everyone! Good morning. Hello, good morning sir! Why are you flying fast in all direction? Sorry sir, because we are gases. OMG! Seriously? You all make me want to puke Yes sir. We are not arranged Sorry sir. Even sometimes we collide to one another Oh so now, your forces of attraction is very weak and have high energy content Yes sir. Yes Yes Yes :)

In class L Hello everyone! Good morning, how are you all? Good? Good morning sir. I am not feeling well. My classmates keep on pushing me. I hate to collide with them. Oh, now I know why we are often colliding one another. You all are not arranged in an orderly manner and have little space between you all. Aww! Don’t hate your classmates. You all are known as liquids. Then why are we moving randomly and slowly sir? This is because, your forces of attraction are less strong and energy content in you is medium. Oh! Now I know sir. Sorry for causing a lot of trouble. Thank you for the explanation sir.

In class S I am very happy to see all of you students S Why sir? You are good with each other unlike students G and L Oh, this is because we are solids. Yes, we are seat closely and orderly at fix position Yeah, I can see that. Your forces of attraction are very strong Yes, but we cannot move freely and our energy content is very low That’s ok dear. Don’t feel awkward. As long as you are stick together, then you are solids forever.

KINETIC THEORY OF MATTER States of Matter Solids Liquids Gases Arrangement of particles The particles are arranged closely, compactly and orderly at a fixed position The particles are not arranged in an orderly manner and are not very closed together. The particles are not arranged. Movement of particles The particles are not free to move and only vibrate at a fixed position The particles move randomly and quite slowly. The particles often collide among one another. The particles move randomly and very fast in all directions. Sometimes the particles collide with one another. Forces of attraction between the particles Very strong Less strong Very weak Energy content Very low Medium Very high In conclusion:

In the evening, solid A and solid B are playing at the playground Lalalala Ahh! It is so hot today. We going to melt. Let’s go home now No! I want to play more here. Wait a minute Today’s temperature is 37°C. You are going to change yourself. Trust me! We should go home. Wait! What do you mean by changing myself? Arghhh! What happened to me? Helpp. Did you means changing like this?? Hmm. I’ve changed to liquid. I’m so sad. I can’t be with my other solid friends anymore.

Hey! Don’t be sad. You can still be friend with me. I have an idea for you. But, this time you have to listen and follow my instruction. Ok? Ok! Ok! You have to go inside the refrigerator now. But, why? This frightened me. I’m scared. Trust me on this. You gonna be fine. The liquid, then go inside the refrigerator for a few hours. After 2 hours in the refrigerator, the liquid comes out and surprisingly………… Hey. Thank you solid A. I’m freezing inside it. I’m now glad that I’m becoming like you again.

In a shiny afternoon, Liquid A and Liquid B are playing in the pool. Today’s weather is so hot. We should spend more time in this pool. No, we should not. We might be evaporated. Hah, are you serious? But I still want to hang up here. Up to you. I will go first. Bye. Help me. Help me. What have happen to me? Why did I become like this? Then, something happen to Liquid A. Liquid A, what happen? Then, Liquid B is coming again to check for his friend. Look at me, I am not liquid anymore. I told you. You will be evaporated. Look at you now, you are gas.

There are Gas A and Gas B playing happily inside the cloud. It is cold today. I love it. That’s right. I love it too. But later, you will be surprise. Why? I don’t understand what you said Gas B. You will see later what will happen to us, Gas A. Suddenly something happen to Gas A and Gas B Ahhh!! Why did I become like this? Hahaha... This is what I mean. We are liquid now.

m In a peaceful day, Sir Alim teaches his students about Matter Kids, do you know what is called when solid turn to liquid? It is melting Sir. Good. What is solid to gas then? We don’t know Sir. It is called sublimation. This process occur when solid directly change to gas. Ohhh... I see. Now we know Sir.

Sir, I have one question. What is it Kira? Good question Kira. Yes it can. The process is deposition. Sir, can gas turns to solid by passing through liquid? Now we know Sir Okay Welcome. Thank you.

CHANGES OF MATTER Freezing occurs when a liquid changes to a solid. Melting occurs when a solid changes directly to a liquid. Sublimation occurs when a solid changes directly to a gas. Deposition occurs when a gas changes directly to a solid. Condensation is when a gas changes directly to a liquid. Vaporization happens when a liquid changes directly to a gas. In conclusion:
