WEEDING
1. INTRODUCTION
Weeding is the removal of weeds from the field. It is an effective pre-harvesting method of crop
protection and crop production management. Weeds act as competitors of the crop for various resources
required for growth like nutrients, light, water, etc. so it has to be removed as it may cause interference
and decrease the yield.Weeds can be controlled in many ways. Weed management includes land
preparation, water management, hand weeding, hand hoeing, crop rotation, and herbicides.Land
preparation helps in the removal of seeds and uprooting of weeds before sowing of seeds of the main
crop. Hand weeding is done manually which is very tiresome and time-consuming.
Nowadays, weedicides and herbicides are most commonly used and are effective ways of weeding.
Chemicals like MCPA, 2,4-D are some commonly used weedicides. They can be applied at three stages
like before and after crop planting and after weed emergence. But these chemicals can cause health
hazards and environmental issues.Weeds are beneficial to nature but it spoils the crop. Thus, weeds need
to be controlled to prevent their impact on living beings.

2. CONCIEVE
Weeds have a very clear effect on the production of agricultural products. This is because weeds are usually
more aggressive and can adapt to their growth even in poor conditions. Such traits are usually possessed by
most weed species that live in agricultural areas. Apart from the aforementioned properties, weeds also have
some other properties that are quite special compared to crops. All of these traits will help the weed to
compete with the crop. Weeds are more successful in competition for nutrients, water, carbon dioxide, and
light when compared to crops. This has led to a decline in yields in most agricultural areas. In certain crops,
weeds cause a very high percentage of degradation. This is like the Echinochloa crus-galli weed that grows
in a field and competes with rice plants and will result in declining rice production. Weeds apart from
reducing yields will also affect crop quality as well as increase production costs. Weeds also increase
production costs due to the use of labor and herbicides to control its growth.
The first method is traditional method is known to everyone and consists of digging the earth. Now many are
discussing how necessary and useful it is and, perhaps, not necessarily dug up. But in the end, there is no
other way to get rid of weeds with a wide and deep root system - just dig and pick the roots by hand. The
second is chemical treatment, This is not the most popular method of struggle, because most summer
residents in their gardens strive to grow environmentally friendly crops and are not willing to sacrifice them
for the possibility of eradication of weeds. Medicines used to control weeds are called herbicides, and some
are used and even praised (e.g. Roundup). The last method is mulching. This is a biological method, it does
not pose a danger to the main crop, but on the contrary, is highly recommended, as it not only helps in
combating weeds, but also prevents evaporation of moisture, protects the root system from overheating or
frost, and some types of mulch help protect crops from diseases and pests (needles, sawdust).

3. DESIGN
Weeds are more successful in competition for nutrients, water, carbon dioxide, and light when compared
to crops. This has led to a decline in yields in most agricultural areas. In certain crops, weeds cause a very
high percentage of degradation.
This is a biological method, it does not pose a danger to the main crop, but on the contrary, is highly
recommended, as it not only helps in combating weeds, but also prevents evaporation of moisture,
protects the root system from overheating or frost, and some types of mulch help protect crops from
diseases and pests (needles, sawdust).
The installation of mulch above the boundary or soil usually begins before or after the planting activity.
Mulching material of rice straw or dry grass is applied after planting the crop. Do not cover straws that are
too thick or too thin. Silvershine Plastic mulching material is installed as appropriate, ie after completion
of the boundary by stretching it manually or using a stretcher using a tracker. The advantage of silvershine
plastic is that it is easily torn or made into planting holes or fertilization holes. Make sure the light part is
at the top and the dark part is at the bottom.

4. IMPLEMENTATION
The use of mulch started since the activity of sowing crop seeds. Seeds sown in boxes or nursery or
nursery areas need mulch to protect the seeds from pest attacks, protect from the sun and damage due to
irrigation water. Once the seedlings start to come out the mulch is gradually reduced to the process of
hardening or 'hardening' of the seedlings before being transferred to the field. The installation of mulch
above the boundary or soil usually begins before or after the planting activity. Mulching material of rice
straw or dry grass is applied after planting the crop. Do not cover the straw that is too thick or too thin.
Silvershine Plastic mulching material is installed according to suitability, that is, after the completion of
the boundary by stretching it manually or using a stretcher using a tracker. The advantage of silvershine
plastic is that it is easy to tear or make planting holes or fertilization holes. Make sure the light part is at
the top and the dark part is at the bottom.
5. OPERATE
The mulching method is mostly used by conventional vegetable farmers, oil palm farmers and rubber tree
farmers. Farmers and cultivators follow the concept of good farm farming practices (ABP) and some of
them have taken courses on mulching methods.

6. CONCLUSION
The conclusion is that weeding is one of the most important practices for many crops. Weeding can
defined as the removal of weeds such as unwanted plants from the field. Weeding is necessary
because weeds compete with major crop plants for different factors such as water, sunlight,
food, nutrients, space, greatly reducing crop yields and in turn affecting plant growth. Weeding
it is also an important process to ensure the crop is always in good condition from weeds or algae.
Weeding should be done continuously and continuously.
Weeding also has its pros and cons. For example, the advantage is that it will be saved
moisture, protect plants from slugs, protect the soil, should only be done once a season and can be
large area weeds that are otherwise difficult to clean. Next, the downside is it can
expensive and laying or collecting mulch can be difficult.
