Wagyu cattle take beef to another level. Wagyu is known worldwide for its

melt-in-your-mouth texture, depth of fl avor and tenderness.
Wagyu refers to a breed of cattle developed in Japan, made famous in the Kobe
region, that are genetically predisposed to intense marbling. Not only is the
marbling intense, but so is the eating experience. Wagyu delivers increased
fl avor due to its so er fat composition, higher proportion of
healthier unsaturated fats and fi ner meat texture.

The Australian Wagyu Association is the largest breed association

outside Japan. Both fullblood and Wagyu-cross cattle are farmed
in Australia for domestic and overseas markets.

Australia received its fi rst Wagyu genetics, a female animal, in 1990.
Frozen semen and embryos have been available since 1991, and there
have been further imports of live purebreds.

The Wagyu breed is gaining strength and popularity as it becomes
more apparent to Australian beef producers that there is a real
demand for quality carcasses that derive from Japanese genetics.

The inspiration behind the 2GR premium Fullblood Wagyu
beef brand dates back more than 100 years to back in the late
1800s when Mrs. Rinehart’s great grandfather had three sons:
her grandfather George Hancock, and his two brothers, John
and Richard. Mrs. Rinehart’s great grandfather founded the
‘H3B’ brand for cattle and sheep, which stood for Hancock 3
Brothers, named for his sons.
Today’s 2GR brand signifies the initials of Gina Rinehart,
along with her daughter Ginia Rinehart.

in 1899. Sir Sidney Kidman, who at 13 left home with
5 shillings and a one-eyed horse, went on to become


the world’s largest private land owner.
It was Sir Sidney’s ability to adapt and transform
as the landscape changed that has ensured the
company continues on with its traditional roots today.


S.Kidman & Co currently has a herd size of
approx. 150,000 cattle spread across 11 stations
and 1 feedlot. This allows us to hand select only cattle
that meet strict guidelines for our Portrait and

Santa Gertrudis brands.
