The tradition of having open houses is important to Malaysians and should be practised more. Do you agree? Nowadays, open houses are the most anticipated event during the festive seasons and people from all walks of life are thrilled to be indulging in great food while having a warm welcome from the hosts. Open houses are unique to Malaysia since they are organised to celebrate the joy of various cultural and religious festivals such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Deepavali, as well as Christmas. This will, of course, lead to cultural harmony in Malaysia. In my perspective, I absolutely agree that the tradition of having open houses is imperative to our society and must always be put into practice. In the light of this, there are many reasons for this issue namely on strengthening the bond among relatives and friends, bringing unity among different races and boosting our tourism industry. First and foremost, the tradition of having open houses is imperative to our society as it strengthen the bond among relatives and friends. An open house is a place to be together with relatives who we care about as well as friends who are very dear to us. For example, we can go to their open houses to meet and enquire about their well-being, to show that we care for them. Thus, strengthening the bond among relatives and friends is a reason why the custom of having open houses is imperative to Malaysians and need to be held frequently no matter what the occasion is. The other reason why the tradition of having an open house is crucial to Malaysians is it can bring unity among different races. As we know, Malaysia consists of many different races and for that reason, we have various practices regarding the cultures. The guests that go to these open houses can experience different cultures which connects us. As an example, the Malays, Chinese and Indians posses their own practices where they tend to incorporate their practices during the open houses. This can be seen especially through their amazing decorations and mouth-watering traditional cuisines. Hence, open houses can bring unity among different races is the reason why the tradition of holding an open house is pivotal to our community and should be practised more. Last but not least, the tradition of having an open house is vital to Malaysians because it can boost our tourism industry. This is because, managing an open house can promote our country. Tourists from all over the world will be coming to our country to have first-hand experience of the plethora of cultures which leads to the increase of our economy. Therefore, boosting Malaysia’s tourism industry is another reason why the tradition of organising open houses is essential and should be carried out more. To put in a nutshell, having open houses is not only strengthening the bond among relatives and friends but also bringing unity to different races in our country and ultimately boosting our tourism industry. From my personal standpoint, I still utterly agree that the practise of organizing open houses is paramount to our society and for that reason it should be carried out frequently. The Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture should implement an effective campaign to uphold the tradition of having open houses. This will ensure the existence of our cultures for the next generation.
