Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each lesson. Each SLM is composed of different parts. 11 Heat is a form of energy. It is the result of the continuous motion of small particles that compose all matter. When a material is heated, these tiny particles called molecules vibrate faster. If the molecules absorb more heat energy, they will vibrate even faster. As a result, the temperature will rise. We need heat energy in many different ways: to cook our food, to dry our clothes, to boil water.In factories, heat is used to process food, iron, glass, and many other products. Heat also plays an important role in nature and the environment. For instance, the occurrence of seasons, rain and wind are the results of heat energy changes in nature. Some animals depend on the heat from the sun to keep their body warm. These animals bask themselves in the sun to warm themselves. This heat enables their body to function normally. Plants need heat from the sun to live and grow. Seeds only start to grow when there is warmth from the sun. So, people, plants and animals need heat to survive.
